Why does it have to be from a recent cruiser? Did DCL change the beer mug?

We were just on the Wonder and they used the plastic mugs in the pool areas, but still had the glass mugs in the lounges and other areas.

How much is the beer prices

FROM THE https://disneyparksmomspanel.disney...disney-cruises-im-trying-figure-money-304328/

"If you purchase a beer, you can estimate around $4.00 to $6.00 per can/bottle and about a dollar or two more for draft beer with an additional 15% gratuity added in. Disney Cruise Line does offer a beer mug program you may be interested in. The 22 oz. mug (around $15.00 to $16.00) gets filled for the price of a 16 oz. draft beer (around $7.00), so it can save you a little if you plan to drink beer throughout the sailing. Each time you finish the mug, you can trade it in for a token, so you don't have to carry your mug around. A clean, chilled mug will be ready for you when you trade the token back in, and you can take home a clean mug to use for years to come. The mugs along with 6-packs of imported or domestic beer packages can be purchased in the Gift and Amenities section on the Disney Cruise Line website or once onboard. It is also an option to bring some beer with you. Disney Cruise Line's alcohol policy does state Guests 21 years of age or older can bring six bottles or cans of beer no more than 12 oz. each in their carry-on luggage at the beginning of the cruise and at each port of call. If more beer is brought than allowed the cruise line will hold it until the end of the sailing."

Their statement of 22 oz. is incorrect, fwiw. I measured two different beer mugs. If it's filled up to the brim, with no head, it's 21 oz. It's nitpicky, but even Disney says 21 oz. now.

The beer mug is 21oz now. We just sailed and that's what they advertised (21oz). There was a long thread in here about a year ago that did comparisons on value. The mug itself is$15, but you get to keep it. Beer is between $7-9 for pints, maybe less for brands like Bud Light. You pay the 16oz pint price for the 21oz mug. I think if you plan to drink more than 5 or 6 then the mug is a good deal. Or, if you just want the mug it is a great deal. I have the token, I never claim the mug, and use it on each cruise. If you use it on multiple cruises, it becomes an excellent deal.

So I have a mug from back when the bar aboard was ESPN Skybox. Do you think they'd still honor the deal with the old mug?

As mentioned, you get the blue plastic ones when you are in the pool areas, everywhere else you get the heavy glass.

They should. I read several months ago that DCL was cracking down and not giving you the discount unless you had a charge for the mug on that cruise. However, I recently cruised and had no problems with the token I've had about 5 years now. So, if you bring an older mug they should fill it. Just make sure they bring that mug back to you. Sometimes they will swap it out if it's dirty.

There is a plastic mug that is given out at the pool area venues. Glass mugs still given out at other areas. This was as of a couple of weeks ago on the Wonder. One mug holds 21oz while the other one holds 22oz - cant' remember which one was which.

Glass holds 21 oz.

I'm sure I've seen this somewhere but if you buy the mug ahead of time how do you use it when you first get on board before you are able to pick up the voucher from your room. I.E we board at 1:00 pm but our rooms aren't available until 2:00 pm.

Also can you use it in the dining rooms for dinner at night?

If having the mug available for lunch is important, just wait until you are on board to purchase. Price and mandatory gratuity are the same either way.

In the dining room at night, just hand your mug token to the assistant server (or server, whoever is taking your drink order) when you order your dinner beverage. You will get the card back when you’ve finished your dinner and settled your bar bill. You will need to ask what draft beer choices are available, since these vary by dining room depending on which bar the draft beer is coming from. On the longer Panama Canal and transatlantic cruises that we’ve done, I add a note on my cell phone as I find out what beer is available in each location. On our first cruise, the assistant server was stuck on the beer I’d ordered the first night until I told him that I liked variety and wanted to try somehing different when possible.

I like the 21 oz size of the mug with dinner. It’s enough that I can manage the meal on a single filling.

Yes, take your old mug. We turn ours in for a token and take it back each cruise.
