Really strange question here... For those who have been to ALASKA.... I have a family member who LOVES beer... Is there a way to buy beer in Alaska & have it shipped back? I don't want to have it on board & all that stuff....

Thanks, Shannon

You're in luck!
Check out Alaskan Brewing Company in Juneau!
You'll be able to tour the brewery and buy and/or ship whatever you like!

There is also a tasty brew pub in Skagway -- good food and beer.

One thing we Pacific Northwesterners know is OUR (CRAFT) BEER!!

Enjoy!

Depending on when you are there, try to score some Alaskan Raspberry Wheat beer. It is made in small quantities and stores can only get a few cases. A CM recommended it to me and it was fantastic. I bought the liquor store's last bottle, and enjoyed it on my verandah with a book at sailaway (yes, you can bring beer back on the ship). The ship also had Alaskan Summer on tap which was great!

I think Alaska was just bumped up on my list :)
It's all good. Here's one of my favorite Vancouver walking tours, from the port to Steamworks Brew Pub (best beer), Yaletown Brew Pub (best food), and Granville Island Brewery (best place to find six-packs, half-litre bottles and cases). https://goo.gl/maps/feims.

I also am a huge fan of The Pike Brewing Company in Seattle and Spinnakers in Victoria.

I love the Alaska Brewing Company products that I've tasted -- a few can be found in our local beer stores. Unfortunately, due to other excursion plans, I might not have time for a brewery tour on my next cruise. Sadly, it appears that their dockside store doesn't sell beer. However, I'd be shocked not to find Alaska Brewing Company products not being sold in Ketchikan, Skagway, or on the ship.

According the the Alaskan Brewing Company web site FAQs:
Q: Can I order your beer online?
A: We are not allowed to ship beer directly to consumers, but there are a couple of online stores that can send Alaskan beer right to your door.

Check out:
France 44 Store
Brewforia.com
MaltandVine.com
Beeronthewall.com
Beverages & More - Ships within California only.

** I haven't checked the fine print for any of these online distributors, but depending on what state (or province) you live in, there may be shipping constraints. I have family in the wine and spirit manufacturing business and it takes a lot of effort for them to ship their products across state / province lines, more effort than to cross international borders. Some rules and regulations make it just not worth the effort. According to my brother-in-law, it's easier to sell his British Columbia wine to customers in China than to customers in Florida.

Be careful, you might go from having "a family member" who loves beer to having "a family" who loves beer.

The micro-breweries across the Pacific Northwest produce brews not just for beer lovers, but for folks who normally don't like beer. For non-beer lovers, ask to try samples of beers or ales with raspberry, blueberry, grapefruit or chocolate flavours. You may find yourself loving beers too. Some breweries also make some tasty apple cider.

Is it wrong that as soon as I had my excursions booked I went through and figured out which brewery to visit in each port? Signs point to no! :lmao:

Portland, OR chiming in! :drink:

No, I don't even drink beer but hubby does so I made sure we'd have time to hit the breweries and I'll be trying some "fruit"y beer myself :)

Thanks for the walking tour info. We're spending 4 days in Vancouver before we sail on the 9-nighter. This is our second AK cruise with DCL and we're excited to spend more time exploring Vancouver on this trip. I think we had a day and a half in 2011.

I also can't wait to get my paws on some Alaska Brewing products again! :drinking1: We can't get them here in FL and, just our luck, they started shipping to TX just as we moved away  theirs are my favorite beers--I can even drink their IPA since it's not modeled on the super-bitter American style; it's more balanced---and the tour and tasting room was so much fun! party: I'll definitely be drinking their draughts on the ship and plan to buy as much as I can in the ports (DIS really ought to go to the beverage packages other cruise lines offer; we so enjoyed bit thinking about the price if every drink when we sailed with RCL recently).
