Does anybody know how to make Beer Can chicken? I would prefer to do it on the grill (gas) instead of the oven. How long do you cook it for? Thanks....

Shelby.........I have not had chicken made like this but my DD(13)
has. She went to a sleepover at a girlfriend's house a few weeks ago and her dad prepared the chicken this way. DD said it was really good -- very moist. She said he fixed it in the grill. I have seen the metal prongs that hold the chicken up and you put the can in at Wal-Mart so I'm sure they would have the instructions.
Of course I'm sure someone will see this post and answer quicker! I'd like to try it too so hoping for an answer.

we do this all the time - there is a recipe on the food network site. it's one of Emeral's. Basically you just defrost a whole chicken. We use the ones that come in a 3 pack for like $9 at costco.

Use a church key to open the top of the beer can in 3 or 4 places. Dump maybe an inch or 2 of the beer out or else it will boil over or burn you.

We rub the chicken with some seasoning (really anything you like) insert the beer can and stand up the chicken on the grill using it's legs as a tripod.

We cover our grill with foil because there is a lot of grease that drips and I don't like things chared (the flame shoots up from the grease kwim)

we cook it for maybe 1.5-2 hours. You can tell when it's done. The meat just falls off the bone.

The hardest part is getting it off the grill and off the beer can with out spilling the beer and burning yourself. It's easiest to just carve the chicken while it's on the beer can until you have enough clearance to cut it off the can. It usually takes two people to remove it safely.

we always cook this for our parties. good luck

My husband has made Beer Can Chicken like it was posted above. We have done it both ways, but prefer the oven (not because of taste, but because our outdoor grill is rather old and seems to have two levels, off and blacken).

It is quite yummy.

Good Luck!

I'm the griller of the family and I make this all the time. It is GREAT.
Rub an whole chicken with Emeril's Essence. I like the Original flavor.
I use a 12oz can of Bud Lite. Pour 1/3 of it into a spray bottle. Pour and equal amount of Balsamic Vinegar into the same bottle and shake to mix.
Open a few more holes at the top of the beer can and then place the whole chicken on top of the can. I like to set the wings back so you get more seasoning and spray on the chick.
Stand the chick and beer can on your heated grill and spray with beer/vinegar mixutre. Put the lid down on your grill and then spray again every 15 minutes for one hour until chicken is done.

I always need help getting the can out before we carve the chicken but it is pretty easy.
This is such a great meal to serve and makes excellent leftovers!!

Not much new information I can add. We didn't buy the rack, the chicken stood up fine with just the beer can. Ours took about an hour and 15, maybe a little more, and was very juicy! We had to remove the upper racks of our grill for it to close and lined the racks with foil for easy cleanup and to keep the grease from flaming up. Have fun!

how do you do it in the oven? i would love to try it!

Sounds delicious! I'm gonna have to try it. I saw the beer can holder thingy at Wal-Mart the other day. :)

I fix whole chickens in my crockpot all the time. I wonder if I could do a beer chicken in the crockpot? Has anyone ever tried that?

I love my pot, don't you. I see no reason it wouldn't, Please post results if you try.::yes::

Weber makes an accessory for this. This allows us to use any number of liquids - beer, wine etc, and mix in any spices we choose.

Weber accessory for beer can chicken

I got this for DH last year for his birthday. We have used it many times. Takes us about an hour and 15 minutes to cook one!

YUM!

Made this on the grill on Thursday and it was YUMMY!! My whole family loved it. :)
