Beer at Disney Recommendation List

Here's a short story about what we beer drinkers are up against. We used to frequent Jiko very often and got to know several servers very well. Back in those days JIko had Safari Amber on draft. Then one year it--along with all draft beer at Jiko--was gone. When I asked what happened, the answer was: "They needed more room for wine".

As an aside, I now recall that Yak and Yeti has Tiger Beer (Singapore).

A poster on a Big River thread talked about a Beer at Disney Recommendation List. We're headed down in a few weeks, so having a list in hand would be nice. Well, fellow beer snobs, here it goes!

For me, I suppose the Spaten Oktoberfestbier at the Biergarten was one of the better ones. The Rose and Crown have some decent ones too, as I recall, though I can't think exactly what they have on tap now. The red at Big River was decent, too.

Anyone have some favorites? Some recommendations?

Definitely Spaten Optimator ( they also have a delicious Oktoberfest there sometimes ).
Just about everything at Big River Grille imho. They had an awesome season IPA when I was there.

If you go INSIDE at Le Cellier, you can get Unibroue beers like La Maudite and Fin du Monde if you like Belgian style beers with a lot of flavor.
I personally am a fan of the Safari Amber on a hot day at AK.

Yes!! It could be in the America Pavillion! I live on Montreal, but everytime I go ( or any of my family goes ) down to Burlington, just south of here, I insist on some Magic Hat coming back to Montreal! Love it!

I had Moosehead on tap at Le Cellier in March. The waittress claimed it was the only place outside of Canada with it on tap. Anyone know if that's true?

Another Tusker Lager fan here. I inquired about getting it from a local World Market store via special order, and it was going to cost something north of $60 for a case. Never mind!

And I sampled some of that Purple Haze garbage at a local Beerfest. It was hands down the worst of the 20+ samples I tried.

I think that Moosehead light is only available in Epcot outside of Canada, this is my favorite Disney beer for that reason, I can buy a regular Moosehead in my local grocery store but for Moosehead Light I need to be at the little cart in Canada!! My husband accuratly claims that I can't walk by the cart without buying one and it is true. Sometimes they have the wrong tapper on it and I will ask if it really the light beer.

Also if someone out there does know if this is sold in the states please don't tell me, I would like to just have this one piece of Disney Magic!!

My husband likes the Kirin in Japan, the Golden at Rose&Crown (half stella half bass) We both enjoy the Kronenburg 1664. Even though we can buy most of these at home in bottles they just taste better on tap, and your paying a premium price for them so that makes it taste better too right?

As far as I'm concerned, if you go to Rose & Crown, and you order a Guinness over a Boddingtons (a brew which is exceedingly rare to find on tap anywhere in the US), you're doing it wrong.

Other than that, you can find a few specialty beers in various places around the parks and resorts, but it's starting to get pretty hard to find anything site specific. I'd be hard-pressed to recommend anything outside of Big River that has any personality that might be there at any given time. It seems that more and more beverages are being standardized into the same dozen or so choices at every resort lounge on property.

My recommendation, if you find a place that serves something different, order that. You can get away with this to a certain extent in World Showcase, but, outside of maybe some special stuff at signature dining spots, you'll find a generic beer list in most cases. Flying Fish, for example, is serving a fairly expensive lager for two that is supposed to be fantastic (Estrella Damm INEDIT, for $19 per bottle).

That being said, of that generic beer list and of what appears to be the standard offerings of the moment, the Dogfish Head 60-Minute IPA is the best beer they serve in the resort lounges.
