Okay, we had a junior suite booked at SOG for January 2008 for $250 a night. I thought that, by itself, was a huge bargain!

I just found out SOG is running a special...if your military sponsor has completed a 12-month deployment, you qualify for the OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom) package. This gets you 20% off your room rates, and a breakfast and dinner for the length of your stay! (Yes, for everyone in your party!)

Our original reservation was for 7 nights at a total cost of $1750. With the OEF rate, our reservation is now for 7 nights, with breakfast and dinner for 7 days (for 5 people!) for $1846.

WOW! Finally...a perk for having your husband sent to Iraq for a year! :cool1:

(By the way, the rate for 7 days in a regular room, with the meals, is $1261 for five people!)

Yay! That's so cool. I'm really happy you guys get that, you deserve it! What a wonderful thing for Disney to do :yay:

That is great! I love when some of the people that give the most get at least some sort of reward.

Thank you husband for us! :thumbsup2

Thank you all...he isn't home yet, he'll be home around December 1st.

It's a nice perk, considering SOME theme parks, that offer you a whopping $3 off your admission as a military discount. :sad2:

We are really looking forward to the trip!

That's awesome, glad to hear Disney is recognizing those serving in Iraq. A few years ago I was working in the promotions dept. at the Sands in AC, on two different occasions I had guests of the hotel that were either on leave or had just returned from Iraq. I did the most I could with what authority I had and gave each couple a comp. for dinner.

As a non-military person here, I can honeslty say that this is the LEAST our country can do for your families! I hope that tons of military families are able to take advantage of this. I am even willing stand in longer lines if need be :crowded:

Disney is not giving the perk. MWR (Military Welfare and Recreation)is giving the discount. MWR manages all the Armed Forces Recreation Centers (AFRC)..they run the SOG not WDW. I don't think Disney has recognized the military with discounts since 2003 when they had that great deal of Free 5 day pass for military and up to 5 guests for $99 each plus room discounts. Now that was a GREAT DISCOUNT!

I am looking forward to making my ressies with the SOG discount as well but DH does not have firm enough dates yet for for his return so I cannot make plans....and it is making me crazy.

I am so glad that this opportunity exists. I can't think of a more deserving group of people! :thumbsup2

Mom 24/7...good point! You are absolutely right. SOG is subsidized by MWR. I think there is a small discount on park passes, but not a whole lot.

I would love to see Disney follow the lead of the Anheuser-Busch theme parks (Busch Gardens, Sesame Place) and give soldiers and families FREE admission.

Mom 24/7...good luck to you...I love and appreciate your username! Hope you husband comes home soon, safe and sound.

That is such a small repayment for the wonderful service your husband and all the wonderful soldiers have provided over the years. I am so glad your husband is home and safe. Please thank him (and his family) for the sacrifices you have all made over the year. I hope you and your family and a have the trip of a lifetime!!!!!!!!!
:)

Congrats on the great, well-deserved deal! And thank you ALL for your service and sacrifice!

Hi!

were there dates with this discount? We have a ressie for March and my girls' dad (the sponsor) was in Iraq for a year.

Was the 20% off meals? Did you buy a meal package? How do you know what the food totals are going to be??

Thanks

that is wonderful you get such a good deal.

Do you know about the stars and stripes tickest you can purchase at SOG, You get unlimited park hopping at the 4 big parks, all the water parks and pleasure island. ITs SO much better than the magic your way.

Hi Disfan-

Here is the deal: Ask for the Operation Enduring Freedom rate. To qualify, your spouse had to have been deployed for 12 consecutive months, and travel to SOG must occur either in his 2-week leave, or within one year of his returning home. You must provide either a DA Form 31 or his mob orders when you check in.

They give you 20% off the room, and 20% off the meal package--when you add those discounts together, it is like you are paying a regular room rate and getting the meals almost free (for us, with the discounts, it was like adding the whole week of meals--for all five of us--for a total of $245).

If you call SOG, they will break the whole thing down for you; we had an existing reservation and they were happy to change it. They also have some details about it on their website, go to www.shadesofgreen.org and click on Special Packages.

Good luck with your trip--that is why I posted about this great deal--I was hoping some other millitary families could benefit from it!
