Thursday 21st May 2009 Islands Of Adventure
Today we planned to head back to the universal area and do IOA and possibly go back to Universal Studios. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2202008
Had usual breakfast at the Contemporary, wed brought the refillable mugs a few days ago and were getting our money out of them.
Cab was @9.20 the driver was really grumpy when he picked us up but when he dropped us off was really cheery. Not sure why lol.
The weather was ok, bit cloudy. The park was just full of school kids, all on their end of year trips I think. Cant say I remembered that on our last trip as wed come the same time of year. We went in and decided to go round the park clockwise as usually we go round anti clockwise. As id mentioned in My Universal Report, last time we came (5 years ago) we didnt really do much as Luke was a bit too short, due to their height restriction being slightly higher than Disney and the queues were just far too long-over an hour and a half. So we didnt think wed do much today. We didnt bother try to see if we could get any sort of assistance card as they were always unhelpful in that area.
Matt decided to try Hulk, while Luke and I went to do Stormforce. We headed for the short queue but the staff member let us in the exit gate. Matt then came to join us, he said the queue was already over an hour. We then headed round a bit more and looked in the shop near the spider man ride (which was also an hour queue). I saw that they sold their express passes for about $25 so we decided to just buy them, it was actually an extra couple of $s to get Universal added too. You can only use them on each ride once though. If anyone thinks thats a lot, look at somewhere like Alton towers £4 per ride or about £40 per day.
As wed got them Matt headed back to Hulk while Luke and I went to meet Spiderman
We then all met up and went on the spider man ride, using the express passes were turning out great already. Still had to wait about 10-15 mins for each ride as everyone could buy the express passes and obviously there were no set times to stick to them like Disneys fast passes but to me the wait time was considerably better and the money was well spent.
We then met Wolverine and Captain America before heading to Toon Lagoon. Now I mentioned Matt didnt like getting wet didnt I?
Now on our last trip I was disappointed I didnt get to do the water rides on IOA as I do love the water rides, but it just wasnt fair to expect the others to wait for the 2hours per ride that they would have had to do last time. This time I wasnt going to miss them!
We first went on popeye & Blutos Bilge rat barges- wed expected to get wet, but we were pretty much soaked through. As we were wet we went on Ripsaw Falls- this ride looks fab. I knew youd get very wet on this Matt didnt know how wet though. I thought both these rides were just brilliant and I could spend the day doing these. Luke loved them too. We were now all soaked through, luckily wed taken some spare tops so went to the toilets to wring our clothes out.
Thankfully it wasnt raining though looked like it wanted to. We just survived the day in our wet trousers.
We then stopped for some lunch, just burgers again but they were pretty good and warmed us up a bit. After Lunch wed spotted another water ride- River Adventure Im think itd opened since wed last been. The drop on it looks amazing. As wed started to dry off we skipped this. If wed spotted it before Im sure wed have done it.
We then walked to the duelling dragon area and I can understand why people say this area is now just too confusing. I think when work is done on the Harry Potter area it will be great but in the meantime its all a bit confusing. I heard lots of people moaning about it. Matt went on the ice one and enjoyed it, I think last trip when you came off one you had the chance to go on the other but you couldnt do that anymore.
We headed to seuss land and went on the Cat in the hat ride. Luke said it was rubbish.
Then one fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish.
We then looked round the shop before heading to Universal Studios ..
