Day 4- Sunday 14th August 2011 Universal Studios
Breakfast today was at the Contempo Cafe-Matt and I both got the bounty platter. It has a good mix of everything and although it doesnt look great we enjoyed it. I usually microwave mine as I prefer very hot food. Luke got the scrambled egg sandwich with cheese and ham-it was good but a shame they had changed it since the last time we had it.
At about 9am we caught our cab to Universal. The cab was a lot cheaper than buying a shuttle pass for each of us, plus it was easier and quicker.
We got the cab to take us to the Hard Rock Hotel and checked in-getting our all important key cards, which were also our front of line passes. We picked up our park tickets from the online booth and left our overnight bag with bell services.
Then we walked to universal, it was a very short walk 5-10 mins.
We came across this sign and took notice! we didnt want to get into any trouble.
We headed to Blue Man group first to get our tickets for tonights show, we went for the earlier show so we could eat dinner at City walk afterwards.
We headed for Universal studios today, going anti-clockwise around the park we came to Rip,Ride,Rock it. The queue was showing as 30 minutes so Matt went to ride it.
Luke and I waited but it was so hot so we decided to go off in search of drinks. When we were looking we saw a meet and greet, with Shrek & Donkey- Donkey was so funny.
We found somewhere to buy drinks. Universal do refillable cups, theyre about $8 but you have to pay approx $0.80 for refills and can be used at both parks.
I did only plan on getting one but they were doing buy 2 get 1 free. The lady did say they were valid for life, but on the cup it says only for day of purchase. We did however use them the next day at IOA. In the end Matt was about 45 minutes, he loved the ride and said he chose ZZ Top, gimme all your loving. He had gone through the single rider line as they dont have express pass at this ride. he said the only problem with this was you missed the explanation of how to choose the music. I also forgot to show him the Dis list of hidden songs before we went....ooops.
We headed for Shrek next and then Luke got his picture taken with a famous couple.
We headed to the Terminator 2 show, we are usually seated in the walkway where they run in the audience. Luke is always trying to put his feet out as far as he can, trying to trip someone up-one day!
We saw the Animal actor show-amusing as always.
For lunch we ate at The international film & food festival. We each got a meal as we knew dinner would be late tonight.
Luke-Cheeseburger, very good but very big.
Matt-Chicken parmigiana, very good.
Nicky-Chinese beef with rice and vegetables. very yummy, lots of flavour.
It was at that moment when we went outside to top up our suntan, it decided to do this
It didnt last long and by the time we had topped up the sun tan, it had stopped.
We had a look in kwik-E-Mart and the went on The simpson ride. I decided not to ride this as I didnt want to aggravate my back. Im also not a fan of simulator rides and had done it before.
We then went on the men in black ride, it always amuses me that you have to put everything in lockers for this ride. Afterwards we topped up our drinks, we had already topped them up a couple of times-today was hot even with the bit of rain.
poor Matt was in the queue for ages, he was only about third in the queue but the guy was so slow and you could tell he didnt want to be there.
Just as we were about to get on the Jaws ride they closed it due to expected rain. As it was getting late we decided to head to the shops before heading for Blue Man. it did rain but it was only a slight rain fall. We did a bit of shopping and used our AA card to get a 10% discount off. We just asked if they did the Triple A discounts. When we gave the card we said it was the UK equivalent-we didnt have any problems using it.
Theres a walkway from the park to Blue Man so we used that as we were waiting under the covers for Blue Man it then rained heavily. We bought a couple of T-shirts and some popcorn to snack on while waiting.
Well what can I say about The Blue Man Group show except-Brilliant. If was so funny and entertaining right from when you sit down to the very end.
After the show we headed for City walk and the place I had been so looking forward to eating at
I love seafood esp shrimps/prawns, so this was my choice. It was a fairly small restaurant and felt fairly cramped inside but we were seated straight away. I hadnt planned on getting a starter but did because Matt ordered one-I later wished I hadnt.
Matt ordered clam chowder and it came out straight away. my starter however took ages and then was followed closely by the entrees.
They have signs on the table-
Run Forrest Run-you show this to say you dont need any help
Stop Forrest Stop-you show this if you need any help or want to order. Any staff member will stop.
They are very handy, esp as we sometimes take ages to order.
The food pictures arent that great but will post them
Luke-did plan on eating something with shrimps but ended up getting a burger meal, with fries and jelly-they were served in a boat.
Matt-
starter=clam chowder, was good very thick and had lots of flavour.
Entree=Dumb luck coconut shrimp. he enjoyed it but the chowder filled him up too much.
Nicky-
Drink=Lousiana lemonade. At the end of your meal you take your bill to the shop and they give you a new glass.
Starter=Best ever popcorn shrimp-it was good but had bell peppers in, they sure were hot!
Entree=Shrimpers heaven-coconut shrimp,chilly shrimp,fried shrimp & tempura shrimp. I sure was in shrimp heaven-it was very good.
When we were waiting for my starter the server quizzed us on the film Forrest gump. He asked us about 5 questions and we did very well. It helped that I knew this was going to happen so we watched the film a couple of weeks before the holiday.
I did enjoy Bubba Gumps but not as much as I was expecting. I think the fact we ate late and then ordered starters so I was too full to enjoy my planned Shrimpers heaven didnt help. next time we will go again and will go earlier
After going to the shop and buying a few things we took the water taxi back to the hotel. We found our room number and it didnt take us all long to fall asleep
