Day 2-Friday 12th August 2011
We awoke early and spotted a message on our answering machine. It was checking we still wanted to swap rooms, if we did we had to call to confirm this. So Matt called them first thing, they told us we'd need to make sure the room vacated by 11am.
We headed for our ADR at Chef Mickeys-no better way to start the day.
we then popped to the shops and the concourse.
Matt brought a Star wars Lanyard and Luke brought a Goofy hat,everytime he wore it everyone called him Goofy-even Bethan called him Goofy.
We headed to bell services to get them to collect and look after our luggage for the day.
Then we checked out of our current room, we'd find our new room number later. we were going to watch wishes tonight so would be back very late.
I know theres a walkway to MK but we always get the monorail on our first day.
To me the holiday never starts properly until I've seen the castle
However we did delay that first glimps by going to guest relations and getting a GAC. After the usual time spent taking pictures and getting photopass pictures taken we headed straight for the rides. Our first stop was Tomorrowland where we did Buzz lightyears space ranger spin, followed by The people mover
It was hot and we decided to take a short break, so stopped by Aunt gravities for a couple of cola floats.
After that we did stitch's great escape and then headed to Space mountain, we had got fast passes for this as we were not sure if luke could do this ride. Matt and I had rode it in 2004 when Luke was too small, last time it was closed for a refurb. I rode first and thought this is ok, Luke could probably do it however half way round I totally changed my mind as it got a lot faster and bumpier. Matt agreed that it was fastier and bumpier, it was a ride that we were glad we did but wouldnt do again. For those that dont know its a fast coaster ride in the dark.
we had lunch at Cosmic Rays-Matt and Luke said they were thirsty rather than hungry, So we just got two meals.
Me=Burger, fries, coke, carrot cake
Matt=burger, fries, sprite, chocolate cake.
I know everyone moans about the burgers and buns but I think theyre great. Seeing as Matt and Luke werent hungry I thought not much would get eaten-I blinked and theyd nearly eaten it all. On my share of a burger Id filled it with lettuce,tomatoes, onions etc-I was determined to try and eat fruit and vegetables with most my meals. I enjoyed the carrot cake, although there was way too much icing on it. we saved the chocolate cake for later, Id brought a mini cool bag to keep it cool.
We next watched the parade
Next up was the Aladdin ride.
It was so hot and we were thirsty,so we got some raspberry lemonade slushes-nice and refreshing.
We did jungle cruise, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean-we hadnt been on this ride since our first visit and enjoyed the changes. We were in the queue for Splash when they closed the ride due to rain expected in the area-They close the outdoor rides whenever there is rain, we waited about 15minutes until it actually started raining. They let us into the covered walkway (by the exit-where the hidden Mickey is) We couldnt really see much rain as were were mainly surrounded by the trees, So we waited a while longer with the other couple of families there. We gave up and decided to head to CHH for dinner, although on the way Bear Jamboree was just about to start so we did that.
For dinner at CHH
N= Shrimp,fries, coke & Apple crisp
M=Clam chowder
L=sprite
Although we just shared it all between us. I really enjoyed the shrimp.
After Dinner we finally got to ride Splash Mountain.
We then headed to the castle and watched The Electrical parade before finding a spot to watch The Magic,The Memories and you. Followed by Wishes
We walked back to The Contemporary and made our way to the check in desk to find out our new room number. The lady at the check in desk was from Aylesbury in England, She had a strong accent and really loved hearing our British accents.
I didnt hear what floor she said our room was on but knew it wasnt the ground floor. I know the garden wing isnt that far a walk from the main building but to then have to take the lift again would have been a pain. She said we were right near the lifts so it would be easy. We asked if they had anything on the ground floor but she said the rooms only started just below and they didnt have any roll in showers. It was only when I started to say.......
but we'd had one before.........
That it dawned on me-was she talking about the tower?
yes she was! we were so excited and couldnt wait to check it out. After she sorted new cards out, we rushed to bell services and asked them to send our luggage to the room. we then rushed to the lift to find our room. Our room was on the 6th floor, number 4237 it really didnt look any different to our previous room but had the all important roll in shower.
One of the first things I did was go out onto the balcony and see the view. I hadnt really worked out where in the tower we actually were but walking out I saw this
We had a view of Magic Kingdom!
I soooo wanted to shout out 'Im king of the world'
I opened the curtains fully so Luke could lie on the bed and see the view.
I know it sounds daft but to us who are always unlucky, it was amazing for something lucky to happen. A free upgrade!
I explained to Matt a while after that it just wasn't a free upgrade but a triple upgrade.
(Garden room-car park view + Garden room-garden view+Tower room-bay lake view+Tower room-MK view)
I also explained that some rooms that do have the MK view, the bed face away from Mk-ours were facing MK so we could sit on the bed and see Magic Kingdom.
we were all tired so got ready for bed, however I started to unpack and couldnt stop. we finally went to bed around 1am.
