Bedtime in a standard room

Thanks to Op for this post as I was wondering the same thing- I have a 14 month old and a nearly 3 year old and everytime we have been away we have always had seperate bedrooms for them. This time though we have booked a room at DGC and I am unsure whether to keep the booking or stay off-site in a suite.
I am just not sure if the boys will settle if we are all in together and I really like having a bit more space but the hotel looks so nice and I just cant find a nice hotel off site within walking distance.

aaahhhhhh- decisions decisions

aaahhhhhh- decisions decisions

The last time we went, my kids were 9 months and 3 1/2 years old. We stayed in a one bedroom suite at the Residence Inn Maingate. We did use ART, but it was quick and painless. The room was spacious and while not plush, certainly nice enough.

This year I originally had us in a one bedroom at the Residence Inn Garden Grove, then decided to book a one bedroom parlor suite at the Desert Inn because of its location before finally deciding on the Fairfield Inn. I think it's a happy medium for us. I'm finally at peace with my decision and think we'll have a great trip.

Like others have mentioned, we do the bathroom hideout. Usually we bring along a deck of cards or game to play while hiding out. Only problem is there is nowhere comfortable to sit in a bathroom!

Our biggest issue now is beds. When the kids were little, we tried putting DS in bed with DH and DD in bed with me, but with all of the wiggling none of us got any sleep. We tried having the kids in the same bed, but inevitably DS would accidentally bump into DD and she would wake up and refuse to go back to sleep. We typically stay in suite hotels (we love Residence Inns) and DH and I sleep in the bedroom and one kid is on the sleeper sofa while the other is on a blow up air mattress. This trip to DLR, we are staying at the HOJO in a kids' suite, so hopefully the bunk beds and pull out couch will work great for us.

The time change is my biggest concern. Now that the kids are 8 and 6, they can usually stay up until 9pm or so, but we're on Eastern Time Zone, so obviously that will be an issue. We'll probably try to adjust the week before while at home, since we're going in July and the kids will be done with school. I have a feeling it will be ME who will have the toughest time!

Can you adjust their bed times at all? Our issue is that DS is up early no matter what time he goes to bed. He tries to be quiet and not wake DD up, but she's a light sleeper and always hears him. I'm hoping we'll all be exhausted and willing to take afternoon naps a couple of days. I'm probably dreaming...

We haven't stayed in a suite yet, but that would help a lot. We only have an issue the night we come in though (we're usually only in DL for a couple hours that first night) -- kids are so excited they're up until midnight. They don't go to sleep until DH finally turns the tv off -- my kids will even watch CNN if it's on :) All other nights (after a full day in the parks) they fall asleep immediately -- lucky if I can convince them to brush their teeth or put on jammies. So the rest of the trip we can stay up and be fairly active--I iron & organize bag for the next day then read; DH watches tv without me nagging ;)

for amym2 and others with the bed issue, at DLH we always get the room with 2 Queen beds and the sofa bed. Then we ask for a rollaway. That way Ds gets the sofa bed, dd gets the rollaway and DH and I each get our own bed. It might not sound romantic but it allows for the much needed good nights sleep at DL.

DLH can't guaranted that room type so we found a trick. We said we had 3 children and ALWAYS got that room type. You only pay for the room, not per person so it wasn't like we were cheating them out of money or paying extra for the "pretend" child who I said was under 2 to explain not buying the extra ticket for those times we had a package.

The only awkward moment was once at check-in when the CM asked the children's names and I got all flustered. Turns out he was just making pictures for the kids! My "real" kids never knew because I didn't want them to hear mom fib so they would stay with Dh outside while I checked in.

Sounds desperate but it was the only way we could comfortably sleep in one room together.
