Bed bugs?

This always makes me nervous. They could easily hitch a ride on a housekeeper. If I am staying somewhere for just a few days I always put the do not disturb sign out to avoid housekeeping because for just a short period of time its not worth the risk.
Me too. I prefer housekeeping not come in for this reason.

My guess is that they came in with housekeeping the previous afternoon, because it didn’t happen until the last day there.

How incredibly biased.

Yes, I am biased against getting bed bugs and other gross things. Some people can walk into a hotel room and lay down and not think about stuff like that for a second. I don't tick that way and I think about all the different ways I could come into contact with things that gross me out. I also don't drink out of the glasses in hotel rooms if that helps build your bias case against me.

Hmm, not sure how this is biased? Please explain your choice of the word "biased". It's common sense. They are going from room to room, touching people's beds, linens and belongings. Bringing the vacuum from room to room. Once I check my room for bedbugs, I prefer to limit housekeeping because it's a risk. Of course the luggage I had that was on the plane is a risk, but I have no choice in that matter. Housekeeping, definitely a choice.

When using the finger scanners to enter the parks I often wonder where the person in front of me just pulled their finger out of.

We had bedbugs all over our office. Turns out they were hitching a ride on cleaning cloths/dusters etc

My husband's friend owns an airport shuttle service and he tells us horror stories about bed bugs to the point where I stop him, I just can't hear it otherwise I wouldn't travel. Needless-to-say, when his family travel, they store all luggage in the bathroom (hard floors) and upon return home they leave everything in the garage until it can be decontaminated and gone through. I tend to not think about bed bugs too much, but I do lift up the sheets and check. However, on our upcoming trip I'm going to be a bit more vigilant.

This is a little off-topic, but I think that the change from carpet to hard floors in the hotels had health reasons like allergies/dust/mold and also bed bugs as part of the reason for the change. I know that many people aren't thrilled with them, but they are so much easier to keep clean. Just my opinion.

Statements like this make me wonder how some people manage to leave their houses ever.
It's funny- I work with students and live near a major city (Manhattan)- took mass transit to work for a time, and now in summer am working out in the garden/yard and covered in dirt and face-to-face with bugs. I take care to keep washing my hands throughout the day, but always feel exposed to whatever is out there, so just try to stay healthy. I feel as though the hot shower at the end of the day washes it all off.

The one thing that really grosses me out (well, besides bedbugs or other bugs inside the house) is when people sneeze or cough- especially in a confined area like a plane. I always pull my shirt over my mouth and nose and can just envision the virus circulating around the room/or plane.

Just experienced bed bugs in our room at Caribbean Beach in January of this year. I made a video all about it and went over everything about how Disney handled it. It was 24 minutes of me talking, so it would probably take too long to type out. If you're interested, skip to 5:54 for the start of the bed bug story

Great video. Thanks for all the details and not just stating "Bed Bugs at Disney!". Hope the US part of your trip went well. Also hope your Mom didnt worry to much since you were gone so long!
