Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Then we be neighbors!
Are you planning to do any of the local races? There is the Raleigh Rocks Half-marathon (and 5K, I think) in early April. The race director told me it will be a very easy course. We should get together sometime. You're doing the Minnie, right?

Howdy neighbor! :)

Yep...I'm doing the Minnie. Yay!

There is a 10K and 1/2 Marathon here in a few weeks--well, in Raleigh. I don't have the date off hand, but I think I will do the 10K to try to help prepare for the 10K in May. It's sponsered by IN and Out Sports I think.

Stacie,
I saw that one a while back but decided I was not fast enough for the half-marathon since the course closes in 3 hours. I did not want to have to walk on the grassy roadside. You have the same amount of time for the 10K (well actually 15 minutes less because you start later) so that should work out fine.
Here is the link to Raleigh Rocks just in case you're interested:
http://www.ncraces.com/index.php?pr=Raleigh Rocks Half Marathon
I just checked and it is also a 5K.

Did I remember correctly that you are also staying at OKW for the Minnie. We need to work something out regarding transportation that morning.

Beth: I love homemade pizza, and it's a good way for this vegetarian and her omnivore DOOD to both get what they want! I like Cold Stone too, but it's harder to justify. (Okay, it's not--let's just pretend it is.)

Lisa: You've been busy, busy, busy! Why do I suspect that this isn't a particularly unusual schedule? :goodvibes I need to move to making my own breads and granola; I'm not a natural cook, but it would be worth the effort. (I just read the list of ingredients in my bread. :scared1:) As to what to add to your challenge, I like Connie's idea of a new recipe or a new food you experiment with. I wish I was at your stage--I can think of lots of "basics" I need to work on adding: water, my daily medicine cabinet of meds that I tend to overlook, more protein. You give me something to aim for.

Dave: I just love the idea of a panda-written WISH newsletter. (hint, hint) You're witty and silly at the same time! But why do I suspect the "throw out the unhealthy food business" is a euphemism for "snoop through your cupboards?" Hey, I resemble that remark!! And  for the dental surgery--I know it's never fun, but hope yours goes as smoothly and as pain-free as possible.

Connie: I'm glad you're doing well. I'm another kitchen aid fan. I bought one for DOOD back when we were dating; now I use it more than he does. (He's quite the baker, but doesn't have the time I do now.) And if I ate meat, your corned venison sounds flavorful.

Tracey: Thanks for the tip from the Shape magazine! I think it will encourage me to shop more frequently and locally. I'm also crossing my fingers for you on the Yum/plateau issue. Your frequent eating is also an excellent plan, one I try to follow.

Bill: He's alllliiiiivvveee! and as funny as ever!

Stacie & Jeanne: It looks like you two can be training buddies as you prepare for the Minnie? How wonderful!

As for me: Evil, evil DOOD asked me to visit our local chocolate store & pick up a bar to give to someone at his work. Sweet gesture for this person, high temptation for me. So I walked in past all the truffles and homemade caramels and dipped fruits. I perused the chocolate, picked an appropriate mid-level bar for DOOD's gift. And then I bought a single-ounce bar of Vosges for myself! I haven't eaten it yet, and don't know when I will. But if I feel the urge for chocolate--and that happens to me more than I care to admit--I'll at least have an appropriate amount of really good chocolate in the house. If I'm going to indulge, it has to be worth it--right? And just knowing I bought it and *could* have it helped ease the craving--the no-deprivation thing, right?

In other news...check your ingredients in canned tomatoes! I went to buy stewed tomatoes & discovered many name-brands have high fructose corn syrup in them! :scared1: I ended up buying the Giant Eagle brand because it was the "purest" of the lot.

Jeanne...We're at Saratoga Springs for the Minnie. I do need to find someone to hitch a ride with. DH and I are doing the 15K. We are flying and will not have a car. The rest of the family will meet us at the finish. They are doing the 5K and my sister is driving so no issues for that race...just the 15K.

Debra...Chocolate!!!! YUM!!!!

Around this part of the country doing livestock can mean something else. Really a place in the mall that rents/sells tuxes for weddings, has tuxes in mosey oak pattern. Now that is redneck to the inth degree. It also carries maternaty wedding dresses. Not that we are in a behind the evovutionary cycle place or anything, but:

Walk like a Panda:hippie:

The preacher on my "My Big Fat Redneck Wedding" on CMT was wearing this vest tonight!!!

Here is an interesting piece from John Bingham. It's about how being prepared for what the day brings is often more important than having a plan.

http://penguintimes.blogspot.com/

In 2006 the WDW marathon weekend was below freezing, the last 2 years have been record heat and humidity. We don't have any idea what to expect when we head to the World to toe the starting line.

Prepared Panda:hippie:

Good morning Lean Meaners!! Another wonderfully icy day in the state of Maine. It is 4 degrees this morning. Snow on tap for tonight, another 6-10 inches, yay.

Debra: For my chocolate cravings, I have found Hersey Special Dark chocolate sticks that are 60 calories each. First, hey its dark chocolate so it is good for me right :confused3 and second, it is only 60 calories, really creamy and it does the job. Busy, yep that's me. I work 32 hours a week (albeit at home), have a 13yo and a 6yo that are into sports 24/7 and have a DH that works for himself averaging about 80 hours a week. :scared1: Needless to say, I have more responsibility that a girl my size needs most of the time. Running is sanity for me.

Panda: The newsletter thing would be a hoot I am sure, especially if you wrote it on drugs. Seriously, take care of you and here's hoping for a relatively pain-free procedure.

Bill: Did you eat Vic??? Now where the heck did he go???? Glad to have you back buddy!!! :goodvibes

Tracey: Yum...oh no wait that's not right. I have been on a kick for about a year now of trying to buy foods that come no more than 50 miles from my home base. It is quite a challenge. Find Norridgewock, Maine on a map. You are better off to Google Earth it. Easier to find that way. Talk about the sticks....but at least if I am a redneck it is cuz my neck got frostbitten!!! :lmao:

Stacie and Jeanne: Jealous. I have no training buddy besides my iPod and the little voices in my head....:rotfl2:

Connie: Thanks again for the recipe. I love corned beef so this should be a treat. Got to remember to drink extra water though. Salty foods dry me out bad. I think though I have decided to add some green tea to my diet for the antioxidant effects. In the colder months, I get a hankerin for something warm in the afternoon/evening while I am preparing meals and usually brew some more coffee. The tea will help me give up something and add at the same time. Thanks for the help though, you are awesome!!! Maybe someday when I go visit family in either Dallas or OKC I can look you up. Do you raise red deer? Uncle is Lemon Stream Hunt Park.

Have a spankin day everyone. Get those miles/hours in if you are part of the challenge...today is the last day of the month. Or maybe if you are not a Goof, then take the day off, it is leap day today you know. You should all celebrate, put up your feet, watch a movie......popcorn::

WOW. and I thought living in Johnston County, NC was Redneck! :goodvibes

OMGoodness! I saw this last night too. My husband was flippin' through channels and he stopped on the Redneck Wedding. I was wondering if anyone else saw it. And....they hunted wild hogs for the bachelor party.

Lisa...your town sounds like a little piece of heaven
Debra....thanks for the well wishes. And, ooooooo, chocolate, Yum:lmao:
Beth....did you sleep late? You're usually the 1st to post.
Stacie and Jeanne....how nice that you live so close to one another.
Vic....hope all is good
Connie....my husband used to be a hunter, I say "used to be" because my 7 year old wrote an "I have a dream" paper in honor of MLK and he wrote that his dreams were "all people will recycle, not litter, donate to the poor, and stop killing animals". Somehow the whole cow, pig, thing doesn't bother him, but deer, now that's a different matter.:) So no venison or elk for us.
Have a great day everyone. Stay strong and stay on plan and take a moment to think of what you're thankful for.

Oops...when I quoted Stacie it didn't have the comment about The Redneck Wedding and the tuxedo vest being in it. I have to figure out how to edit posts. Sorry.:confused3

Good morning Lean Meaners!

Sorry that I've been MIA. It's been a busy, busy week.

TGIF!!!

Does anyone want to come to Florida and go over employment applications? Better yet, I'll pick the candidates, you can interview and then train them. :rolleyes1 :) I hate interviewing applicants.

Everyone - Hope everything is going ok and you're getting your mileage in and your diet clean.

Y'all take care.

:)

You DS has the same problem Bill, does, apparantly! LOL There are more deer in this part of Texas than there are people.

I don't buy that thing that we need to kill deer so they won't starve to death. Lets take them some food.

Good morning y'all.

Vic, we have the problem of no one to hire, there is a big shortage of licenced opticians so just no one there to even interview. The problem is if you are licenced in one state your licence is not good in any other state. So we can't even hire one from Nashville or a surounding state.

Walmart here is paying $20 an hour plus commission on glasses sales and are having to close opticals in the stores because of no one to work. This is an area where most factories start at $6 an hour so it's a low paying area.

Ok I had a good workout, YEAH!!! Tready 4 miles with some at 13 mpm and then an hour of stretching and cals.

Well I'm going to load the car with deer food and head for the woods. They do eat hot pockets right?

Stretchy Panda:hippie:

Deerfeeding Panda, we do not shoot deer here unless they are wounded. My DH's uncle has a red deer farm and if one is injured and they have to put it down, we are fortunate enough to get some of the meat. They also have buffalo and elk on the farm in the hunt park. There is a butcher shop (owned by the uncle's brother) and they sell buffalo, elk and deer just like you buy it at the local supermarket. The last think DH had to shoot was a calf last year that fell and was paralyzed and he cried half the day.....

No hunting for me... but I do go fishing... bait my own hook too! :goodvibes Most people don't believe me when I tell them that. Apparently I come across a bit prissy :confused3

Stacie

Stacie

Stacie there ain't nothing prissy about the WISH pretty princesses.

For the new members all the WISH ladies are pretty princesses. Only one tenth of one percent of the population has ever finished a half or full marathon, that makes you pretty elite. Your strength of character and determination set you apart as well. You are Royalty, don't let anyone tell you different.

I said this over on our team thread but thought I should let the newbees on here know how the pretty princess title came about.

Walking Panda:hippie:

Hey Lean Meaners.....sorry I have been MIA! I did just catch up on all the posts I think! :surfweb: I actually worked extra yesterday ((((as a real nurse!!!!)))) on a nursing unit. We are in need of extra money, so I picked up some time. I couldn't check out the Dis board there....to many witnesses!:scared1: So I didn't get to post yesterday. :headache:

Tracey: I guess I answered your guestion! Today I had a hair appointment, and had to mix up a batch of cookies for one of the barbers.....it was his b-day yesterday, and I was asked to bring cookies!

Debra: I have a hard time justifying the Cold Stone too.......but it didn't stop me! I don't like to feel deprived all the time, and I skipped the last two visits and didn't get anything.....time to have some! I try to keep it as healthy as I could! The person working there complimented me on the healthy mix in (pecans). She said that most of the people ordering the sugar free sweet cream, get all kinds of sugary candy to mix in it. She didn't get it, and I don't either. Just get the regular ice cream then!!!!

Lisa: The kidlets are the busy ones......we are just the cheering crowd and their transportation!:rotfl: ;) Sometimes looking at my schedule book depresses me! :guilty:

WWDave: Can I come work for you? At least we could have fun! I hope your dental appointment goes the best it can. I am such a phobic about the dentist......I didn't go for like 5 years ((((during both pregnancies)))) and when I finally made myself go, I had a years worth of work to do!:scared1:
I am still paying for it!

Bill: So you are still around.....nice to 'see' you!

As for me.....My total weight loss for Jan/Feb is 15 pounds. I missed my goal by 2 pounds, but that's ok. I am still very happy with that! I am eating well, and happy with my exercise. I am on roll!
