Becoming Lean, Mean, Endurace Event Machines in 2008

Hi guys! I just wanted to pop in and wish every one "good luck" on their weight loss journeys. I am trying to lose weight too! I've lost 21lb since this past September when is started training for my first 5K at WDW! I did complete it! Yay me! So to stay motivated to keep moving and keep losing, DH and I are going to the 5K and 15K for the Minnie in May! :scared1:

Keep pushing! You can do it!
Stacie

Hi, Stacie! Congratulations on the 21lbs--that's quite an accomplishment.

As for me, there was an incident last night at the reading. Quite dangerous, involving chocolate. I survived, but yesterday's nutritional plan did not. :rotfl:

Oh, well, today's another day. Looks like I've got no excuses for not doing something today. Not even the steady snowfall. I'll try to pop in later when I've accomplished something worth talking about. Meanwhile, feel free to beat me about the virtual head and shoulders.

Debra -- I also had a little slip. I meant to eat a ww recipe, and instead had Subway. At least I know how many points I had...On the bright side, tonight's dinner is already made -- ww crab rolls. After a 40 min walk on the TM, I can enjoy and relax! I'll report back after that walk actually happens:rolleyes1

Maria

Hi everyone :yay:

It is wonderful to see so many peeps that have joined in and are doing so well! What motivation!!! :cool1:

So far so good. Today's lunch was a huge grilled chicken salad. Yummy! I did slip and have a few chips (mexican place) with the girls, but overall not bad. I know I'm not loosing like I would if I did a real Ph1 South Beach plan but I'm happy to feel like I'm on my way :thumbsup2

Last night instead of junk I ended up with a natural peanut butter/ww bread sandwich. Much better than the fastfood fried crap I normally would have had on a busy evening

I just signed up for the team challenge so I'm movtivated to increase my time/miles of moving it :cheer2:

WISHing you all the best :grouphug: :wizard:

Hey! :wave2: You all are doing AWESOME!!! :cheer2:

I had a minor non-scale victory today... I just got back from the grocery store with 2 little ones in tow (something I avoid at all costs!). But, I stuck to the plan, got what was on my list, and shopped the perimeter of the store - detouring only for oatmeal and salad dressing. :woohoo: And the boys were very well behaved - always a plus!!! ;) It was fun because I started having Billy look at the nutrition labels. He doesn't understand everything, but he can tell me which brand has fewer calories and fat, and is therefore healthier. Yea! Now, if I can just get him to eat the food!!!! :lmao:

As for exercise, I'm hoping to go for a bike ride when DH gets home.

Keep up the great work. If you had a bad eating day yesterday, dust yourself off and remember today is a new day. We can do this! :thumbsup2

Maria, thanks for being so supportive & adding your own confessional. Chocolate is my downfall. Subway's not so bad, though, for fast food. Did you get your 40 minutes in?

Minnie, I love natural peanut butter--it sounds fabulous--and your choice of a salad sounds like it was both healthy & satisfying. What team are you on for the Miles/Minutes Challenge? I hope you're on Team 6/Ohana, but if not I'll still have fun trash-talking with you! :thumbsup2

Lynnda, it's good to hear positive thoughts. I tend to use humor to deal with everything, but I do get down on myself when I slip up. In terms of your victory--whoo hoo! Well-behaved boys & learning about nutrition? Mom of the year!

Speaking of slipping, last night I slipped on black ice & my knee has been a little twinge-y. I managed to get through my strength training, but the knee really didn't like the squats & my form wasn't strong. Afterwards I decided to take it easy today and will ice it tonight; I'm planning on hitting the treadmill tomorrow if the knee isn't too tender. Sometimes I think I'm too klutzy to work out.:lmao: (No excuses after Feb. 1, though.)

Good evening lean meaners!

Glad to see everyone is moving ahead and staying motivated.

Tonight was supposed to be a few miles on the TM. However, there's a water main break down the street and we don't have any water. Can't get all sweaty iff'n I can't shower. That would be rude. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Debra - take care of that knee.

Y'all take care and keep up the great work!

:)

I have had a good scale day!!!!! I am down 8 pounds since Jan 1st! I was surprized at that since I had to take the day off of excerise yesterday since I took a road trip to see the Spirit of the Marathon with my sister. It was awesome, but I thought the scale would taunt me this morning.....but no, it was my friend!!!! I have been aiming for 10 pounds this month, and the dream is still alive! 8 is great, and I am really happy with that!

Beth

Way to keep at it everyone. One day at a time; Slow and steady wins the race; etc., etc.

I am happy to see so many encouraging each other and themselves. I have been doing pretty good this week on the food front. No, I haven't managed to eat "clean" all week, but I have gone most of the week eating fairly smart and limiting major break-downs. I think I just need to ease into it a little this time, so I am counting this first week as the break-in period of trying to control the triggers and next week I start in my new my role/job as a person who eats healthy most of the time.

Stacie--Congrats on the loss to date.

Beth-- Way to go on the 8 lbs. Sometimes the body needs a rest/slight change of pace to realize its time to unload a little more weight. The human body is a remarkable machine that has adopted and survived for a long time and some of those early survival genes still work to ensure that we make it.

Lynnda--Way to start the WISHlets while their young. My three DDs all have been reading nutitional labels (not that any of them really need to worry themselves) for years. They are always agast at the amount of fat and calories in some of the foods they eat. Luckily, they and my DS are all VERY active. The DDs also control their snacking. In fact, DD#2 has the most interesting diet. She is the tall, lean one who seems to live on salads and chocolate cakes/brownies. DS is a non-stop machine when it comes to activity, but I think he would live on chicken nuggets and hamburgers if we let him (typical male ;) ).

Big Vic--Thanks for all the encouragement and showing us how to getter done.

Debra--I mailed in my registration for the 2009 WDW Marathon Weekend last week. This weekend will mark 2.25 score for me. So that will give me 50 weeks to prepare for my First Big WDW Endurance Adventure. (I plan to treat the Tower of Terror events as Big WDW Endurance Adventure Tune-ups.)

Maria, Sandy, Kathy, Wendy, Jeane, Lara, Connie, Tex, Eva, julie & nicks mom, Susie, Minnie and Jim (sorry if I missed anyone)--you are all inspiring and doing great. Thanks for checking in and posting.

Remember, this thread is just an impetus. Each of YOU are the ones that are actually making the choices to get out there, put in the time/miles and eat healthy. Reading what people are actually DOING is the true inspiration.

snacks are hard - I wanted chocolate, dd had a bowl of ice cream - so how to handle those cravings are always a challenge...

I bought some fresh fruits and veggies - so I sliced some cucumbers up (you have to have them to use them!!) and I boiled some balsamic vinegar down to make it a reduction - and then I poured it on the cukes - It tastes very sweet, and it killed the chocolate craving!! I know you can buy a really good balsamic - but I have the cheap stuff - its why I boil it down...

I got a scale boost yesterday - about a year ago DH bought a new scale - we hated it b/c we thought it weighed high - for both of us - and was not in line with what we were seeing at the gym or doctor's office. My husband wanted to return it but how do you return a scale and say it says we weigh more than we think we do :lmao:

So yesterday I decided to go buy a new scale - and I instantly lost 7 pounds!!! So that was good - but not a real weight loss...

this stupid bronchitis is kicking my butt - no exercise at all and I feel yucky and food doesn't taste good so I have been eating very little but falling into the trap of eating comfort foods - like chocolate...luckily the fact that I am eating very little seems to be on my side with this...

I have decided not to beat myself up over this and am setting Feb 1 as my get my butt in gear date - that should hopefully allow me to exercise without coughing up a lung!!!

Julia and Nick's mom: That is a great way to lose 7 pounds....none of that pesky food limitations. Can it work for all of us??? :lmao:

Bill: Slow and steady wins the race! :goodvibes Take your time and change the bad habits slowly. That's the way to keep the good habits for a life time.

Sandy: Snacks......they are the weight upon my soul. The other night, the family was all eating a late time snack, and I practically lost my mind. I am trying not to eat after 8:00pm, but that never gets easier. I had to walk out of the room, or I would have eaten something.

Big Vic: I will have to remember the 'broken water main' story.....that one works for me! :lmao: I sweat so much, I could BE the water main! (nothing feels as good as that shower does!:goodvibes )

I have just made a family dessert for tonight from my new Light and Tasty magazine from Taste of Home. A lighten version of cheesecake bites! I reduced some of the carbs too, so I can endulge tonight! It smells great!

Hope everyone is having a successful day!

Beth

Maybe we could send my scale on a vacation to each of you ;) I lost 1/2 a pound since yesterday!!

I made a ticker but it isn't showing up in my previous post so I am testing to see if it is there now...

Then I need to make a Flying Pig ticker or clipart...I should put all my marathons in there to motivate me!!

Big Vic: Lean meaners! I love it! I always have a vision of Mean Joe Greene and the Coke ad when I open this thread....Thanks for the concern for the knee. I know I have a tendency to ignore my body's signals, so the words were appreciated.

Beth: 8 pounds & goal within sight! That's great news. I hope you enjoyed Spirit. And "weight upon [your] soul," and the weight on scale. I love good snackage. Or rather, bad snackage. I'm trying to see my snacks as mini-meals, not desserts. Hard to do when I'm eating an apple & nuts and my DH asks me if there's any carrot cake left. (Does that count as healthy--it's got carrots!)

Bill: Wishlets!! Another great turn of phrase. We have some really clever folks here. That's right, slow & steady wins the race. It sounds like you're doing well. And I like how you're approaching ToT events as tune-ups. I've been trying to convince DH that we should do ToT (and maybe taste) as warm-ups before marathon weekend. (He seems to want to run other-than-Disney races, though...). I think the tune-up idea works much better, though, and would actually help with my performance issues in Orlando heat. :thumbsup2

Sandy: Good tip on the balsamic, both for the chocolate cravings & the reduction. I tend to eat frozen grapes or nuts for my sweet-tooth snackage; I think my body confuses a need for protein with a desire for sugar. I love these kinds of suggestions, as I tend to get in a real food rut & like to try new things.

Speaking of foods, if anyone out there has vegetarian suggestions, I'd love to hear them. I'm always looking for ways to increase my protein intake without hitting the fats too much. (I don't eat meat, fish, or gelatin, but will consume dairy and eggs.)

Julie & Nick's Mom: Sorry to hear you're sick, but good to know you're taking care of yourself. Chocolate is one of my go-to comfort foods, too. Why can't it be broccoli? I hope you can exercise soon, though, as I think you're losing weight the hard way.

As for me: My nutritional intake today is on-target. And I believe I'm progressing smoothly if not consistently. Some days are harder than others, with no one reason that I can determine. I'm wondering if I need a more substantial breakfast with more protein given my current, overall fitness level. I never skip breakfast, but I tend to eat just cereal & a banana, totaling a little over 300 calories. (Not much of a morning person, so I'm not hungry.) As I'm working out in the a.m. more often, I think I should try to shift where my I consume most of the day's calories; I'd like to have a little more energy throughout the day.

I did work out this morning, 90 minutes of cardio (mostly elliptical, but with another C25K session). I'm going to take it easy on the knee for next couple of days--no high-impact exercises, more biking, rowing, slow walking, and *careful* strength training. My knee actually feels okay but I'm also very aware that I have a knee, if that makes any sense. That's usually a sign I need to back off for a bit.

:rotfl: Go LEAN MEANERS!! You are all doing so very, very well! :goodvibes

I am down another pound. That makes 7 since the first. I am really trying for 10 by April 27th! I won't change that, I will just keep thinking 10, all the way through. Maybe with diligence I can make it two 10's!!

I am toying with the idea of trying the WDW marathon next year. I think I can even swing it on points...or get close, anyway. I just don't know if I can do Disney, alone. :guilty: That just seems wrong, somehow.....
Even a tune up all by myself would be hard...okay not all by myself, but y'all know what I mean, don't you?

Sandy, for those chocolate cravings try some Swiss Miss diet hot cocoa or a couple of pieces of Dark Dove Chocolates. They both take care of that craving!!

Beth Way to go on the eight!

Julie and Nick's MOM Cool scale. I hope it doesn't break your heart later. I had one that did! :sad2: Turned out it was 12 lbs wrong and I was fatter not skinnier! I got over it, if not over the 12 lbs! :rolleyes1

Here's to your health! -- Connie

Connie - Awesome job on the weight loss!!! :thumbsup2 You know you would never be alone at the marathon, but I understand your difficult decision. That Mickey medal is pretty amazing, though! ;)

Debra - Great job on the cardio!!! :cool1: I have found that I do feel better when I eat a larger breakfast. My problem is that somehow my larger breakfast never gets balanced with a smaller dinner. :rotfl:

Kate - Great job on the loss, and I love your scale!!!! :rotfl2: Can we make it the official WISH scale? :goodvibes And I hope you feel better SOON!

Beth - Awesome job on losing 8!!! :woohoo: And that dessert sounds wonderful!

Sandy - Way to go on the healthy snack! I have the hardest time staying out of DS's food. We are trying to get him switched away from the not-so-healthy snacks, but he is resisting GREATLY! :rotfl:

Bill - I could seriously live on your DD2's diet. :thumbsup2 However, I am currently far from tall or lean - that diet apparently never worked for me! :rolleyes1 Good job on controlling the triggers! Next week is going to be great!

I was able to get out and bike last night. I didn't get as far as I wanted because my front light went out :scared1: , and by the time I got back to the house it started raining. Grrrr!!! Today was rest day, and I'm not sure what I will do tomorrow. I was hoping to go to the pool (since I have a tri in less than four months  ), but we are actually supposed to be cold again tomorrow. (Cold is relative, I realize - but the high is only supposed to be 66, and I am a true Florida girl - brrrrrr!) :lmao:

Nutrition has been pretty good - I am working on cutting extra sugar and processed stuff, adding more veggies, and drinking lots of water.

Anyway, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Keep up the great work - you can do it, and you are definitely worth the effort! :goodvibes

Good morning Lean Meaners!

Hoping everyone is having a wonderful Saturday morning.

I'm supposed to be getting ready for a 5K this morning. However, it doesn't look as though the weather is going to cooperate. It's currently raining and looks to do so throughout the morning. I'm dedicated, but not that dedicated.

Was supposed to workout last night, but had company at the house when I got home from work. All of these distractions are not conducive for consistant training. :rotfl:

Beth - WTG with the weight loss. I also blame stuff on the dogs. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Bill - Keep up the good work. One day at a time, my brutha.

Sandy - WTG with the snacks.

Julia and nicks mom - Take care of the bronchitis!

Debra - WTG with the workout!

Connie - WTG with the weight loss. You know you want to do the marathon. Do it! Do it! Do it! :)

Lynnda - WTG with the biking.

Here's an article from WebMd. Y'all have a great weekend. :)

Diet Foes

so you all don't have to keep typing Julia & Nicks mom - my name is Kate! Way easier to type!!! ;)

Did anyone read about the expedition everest event? It sounds SO cool but I don't think it is in the cards this year!! Maybe if there is a great deal on aifare!! I live in Cincinnati so I could go on Skybus if I get the $10 fare - which I could also use to go to Disneyland for the half and to....

You all are doing so awesome on the exercise and diet!! Very inspirational to me sitting here coughing up a lung...my DH just went to work out and said he would tell the gym I said hi - like I would rather be sitting here coughing than working out...

Vic I don't blame you for not running in the rain...that is my limit too - you really don't want to risk getting sick and then have to put training on hold!!!

:thumbsup2

Debra - I'm on Team 1 - should be fun! Race you to the dreadmill :cool1:

Beth - Wow that is awesome!! Congrats on the loss

Next week I start in my new my role/job as a person who eats healthy most of the time.

I love this statement :thumbsup2

Connie - 7lbs that is wonderful :cool1:

So far so good. Yesterday was yogurt for breakfast, grilled chicken salad for lunch, and peanut butter on ww crackers for dinner (not the best but I didn't feel very good).

I've managed to make the dreadmill a treadmill again and not a clothes rack and did a 30 minute wog to get back at it :cool1:

Have a great weekend lean meaners!

Hey everyone! Just a quick driveby. I see many of you are doing f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s with your goals of losing weight, getting healthier, etc. I need to get my rear in gear to catch up with y'all.

I walked on the dreadmill for 3 miles last night. It's the first time I've been able to get on the darn thing due to the nasty blister I acquired on the ball of my left foot from the full a few weeks ago. (Wow, it's been 2 weeks ago. Just doesn't seem like it). Actually, I've used this blister excuse to eat my way through the kitchen and I've got to stop it!!! Reading through your reports have given me amunition to get back to the gym today for some good 'ol XT and to get outside tomorrow for some more walking!

Keep up the good work, all!
