I am not sure if this is the best subforum but I will start here.
I am wanting to become a DVC resales agent. I ultimately want to work for one of the current resale companies (not start my own business). I don't even know where to begin. I did try to ask one of them but I was kind of given a slight brush off.
Id love some info.
(for some personal info- I am currently the owner of 2 resale DVC contracts so I know the experience on this side of things. I have also will have stayed on all of the DVC WDW properties after next months trip! I have not stayed at Vero, HHI, Aulani, GCV)

Are you a real estate agent experienced in timeshare sales in the state of Florida? That would be a start. Having experience as a DVC guide, selling direct contracts would also give you a leg up on any competition for a job in that field. And ultimately, a lot will hinge on whether any of those companies is even hiring new sales associates.

No Im not a guide and have no license... I know right now they arent hiring so I fogured Id start getting anything I needed now this way if it took 6 months to get done what I needed then maybe they would be hiring.
I know there are online schools for a FL real estate license but I dont know which one is best.

Funny, you should ask...our waiter last night decided our time was worth him exounding on how he would never get to be a DVC guide (I was wearing my original Vacation club hat) because you have to know someone or be in the clique or a family member. He was newly licensed as of last year and had no experience but conclded it was a 'who you know' problem.
We missed the fireworks as he told one tale of woe after another to various tables.
I don't think you can become a guide without a proven track record but that is just my opinion.

Lol on the waiter. I appreciate how hard waiters/waitresses work. I just never get a break so I wouldnt love to much chit chat (that is just me)
I guess that is with all jobs . You have to know someone....I dont know anyone lol

I think “they” read the boards and will analyze any written communication you use to inquire as well. So make sure your punctuation and sentence structure is double checked in any correspondence. You may be doing a lot of online communication which is an asset in your future job. Going to all the DVC (except those mentioned) is exciting. YAY! Wishing you well!

THANK YOU! Great advice!

Have you actually researched the company you want to work for?
The owner and his agents are very supportive of each other.
They have joined Pete Werner many times on the Disboards podcasts . Great place to start
They also have a very interesting blog to read on their home page and a new podcast to watch with 4 episodes. It is worth it to watch it just to see their beautiful new Office design… I want to walk thru those doors.
My DVCguide kidded me for using resale market but admitted he was personal friends with Mr. Nick Cotton and had a lot of respect for his friends accomplishments.
I guess if I wanted to enter this field I would have to be prepared to survive in Florida financially with a castmember job as a DVC contact agent entry level.
Good luck You can achieve your dreams with a lot of hard work and luck and get to know the right people And Believe in yourself.

Thank you!!! I was hoping to sell resale so I guess that wouldn't make me a CM....that would be a dream to call myself one!

Here is a link to how to get your timeshare license in Florida. The author of the article has reached out to others to give them advice in the industry. Andy Berry, my past resale agent at DVC Resale Market used to work for Disney as a guide and now sells resale. He might be a good resource. He's an amazing agent and I have used him to both buy and sell a property.

Best of luck!

I think their point is that your chance of becoming a resale agent is very low without experience within the Disney DVC hierarchy as a Disney employee. Every single DVC resale employee hs worked for the Mouse.

Did the OP even mention the resale company they inquired with? 🤔

Also, no advice to give, but I hope it works out for you, @italiancookies!

Thank you for your positive words!!
I didnt name any resale companies I spoke with since I dont want to make it seem like anyone isnt great.. I have learned so much here and this has prompted me to check in with some things like how to obtain a RE license in FL and to really reflect on if this is right for me (so I dont use time and money) and to decide that I ultimately can't control the fact I haven't previously sold DVc directly. I do hope at the point and time I have passed exams and am ready, that I market my strenghts and that will help. Also, I absolutely know Id be on the ground level 'green' as they call it and I expect my pay to reflect that....I have to handle some other things 1st before I can enroll in the license school.

Honestly seems like most of them came from Disney directly (not always a good thing). Also realize there is only a few of these positions that exist.

They likely get reached out to a bunch so the brush off is likely nothing personal but more so they are not actively hiring or if they are they have a different way to find people other than those reaching out to them.

You could always get a FL brokers license and start your own DVC resale company and not worry about being hired by someone else.

Disney currently has an open position for a Vacation Club Guide on their careers site as of 9/5 if you wanted to try to start that way and then later move into resales.
