Because We're Insane: Driving & Triple Split Stay! Updated 10/23. Pg.16

Hi everyone! I'm back!

I got back yesterday evening and am so exhausted. I always get bad jet lag. Suffered with it for the first half of our trip, and now I'm feeling it bad being back.

My sister and I went with our parents on a cruise of the Danube River. We started in Germany, sailed through Austria, and finished in Hungary. It was a great trip. My dad had always promised to take us on a trip to Europe (he's from Austria) when we were both finished with college. Although when that day came, he couldn't afford it. So now over ten years later, he said that this would be the trip that would make up for that promise.

For those of you who are my facebook friends, I already started loading the pics. Otherwise, we'll be doing a photobucket account just for the Europe trip. I can post the link when we get it all set up.

I have TONS of work to catch up on now. Trips to plan for clients, documents to organize for clients, emails to answer, a couple retail shifts to work..... SO much. I will get my next TR update done sometime this weekend!

Thanks for hanging in there everyone! You're all awesome! :thumbsup2

I'm all caught up now. I hope you had a wonderful vacation in Europe. I'm looking forward to hearing about the rest of your Disney trip (great so far). Oh, and a belated happy anniversary to you and Brian.

Welcome back! Take your time relaxing and catching up on work. We will all still be here waiting for another great update! Looking forward to seeing pics from the cruise.

Hi Everyone!

So I'm going to add an update today, but I just want to say how awesome the trip to Europe was. It was so great seeing all the different cities and countrysides. It re-inspired me to get my butt in gear and maybe try to do an audition tour in Europe next spring. I know I'm getting to the age where I don't have as much time for that, so I figure it's now or never - I at least have to try.

As a result, I plan to be busier than ever. Not only doing the travel agent thing, but still working retail and teaching voice lessons, in addition to the show I'm singing in this fall. And working up my audition rep so that I can hit the U.S. audition circuit hard this fall. Whatever happens, I know I'm in for some exciting adventures.

Welcome home!! Your vacation sounds so wonderful!! Hope you share some pics with us!!

Sounds like you have some fantastic adventures planned for the future!! :cool1:

Disney Day 3!

Well, after a very late night at Magic Kingdom, this day was scheduled to be our "sleep in" day. And I definitely slept in. It was also sort of a final recovery from that drive down, too.

I think Brian got up before me, but I slept until 10:40am!

We had breakfast in our room - we had brought cereal from home. However, eating it was made challenging by the fact that there were NO spoons in our room! Let me tell you, eating cereal with a fork is quite the challenge! You have to drink the milk, then put the cereal in your mouth. (Or I guess you could also do it the opposite way - regardless - it's tough.)

After getting showered, it was off to AK so we could transfer over to Jambo House. We had to film some footage for my video project. I was including the resort in my "Hidden Gems" video and Zawadi Marketplace was on my list of best gift shops.

Being back at AKV really made our Disney trip feel more real. It's our DVC home resort, and we LOVE it. Walking into the lobby at Jambo House just feels so comfortable, welcoming, and wonderful.

But before doing any filming, we decided to grab lunch at Mara. We split the chicken flatbread and the turkey ciabatta. And of course we had to get some zebra domes for dessert! It was all SO good!

We filmed some footage at the outlook areas and the gift shop. Also got some pics too, of course!

And we went to the side observation room that overlooks the Sunset savannah to see if we could see our Eland buddy from two years ago....

IMG_1637.jpg

Success! He was hanging out in the shade with an ostrich!

After filming, it was time to head to the Poly to get footage at the Boutiki gift shop, which was also on my list.

We hopped an MK bus and then took the monorail to Poly.

I saw the most adorable dress at Boutiki! (Dude, why did I not take a picture of it?!?!?) However, the straps were too long, and were not the kind that could be easily fixed. I was hoping that maybe they would have an XS for me to try on? Maybe that would alleviate the problem? But alas, it was not meant to be. :sad2:

There was a bridal party in the lobby of the Poly getting pictures. SO cute! Her bouquet was beautiful. (Again, why did I not get pics?!?!? We were tired and distracted, I guess.)

We then took the monorail back to MK and walked over to the bus area to get a bus to OKW. But there was already QUITE the line. So we thought that was good sign - that there would be a bus any time now!

Ummmm....

No.

No bus. We waited. And waited. We were really perplexed, as we don't normally have bus issues. By the time the bus came, we were starting to hear people say that there was some kind of accident and that's why things got so backed up. Never did hear the official story, but at least we were on our way back to OKW.

When we got back, it was time to change for dinner. Here in my notes, I see that I made a comment on how I really liked my make-up and how well it stayed on. Because we were filming, I was having to wear make-up each day. My morning routine was to use one of the Sephora sweat wipes on my face (for those who know me or have read my other TR's, you know that I sweat - alot.) But with using the sweat wipes on my face, then putting make-up on, I looked mostly normal for most of the day! Plus, the foundation is NOT a department store brand. It's Maybelline Super Stay Make-up. I used to work in cosmetics, so I can be a little snobby with the make-up I use. But seriously, this stuff is great!

Anyway, back to our story.....

For dinner, I wore my new white dress that I got from my store:

IMG_1642.jpg

The belt is one I got at a consignment store. I thought it went great with the dress!

We took the bus to Epcot. Before heading back to dinner, we stopped at Mouse Gear to get some gift shop footage, before walking back to Italy.

We waited about 10 minutes for our table.

Once seated, we ordered a pitcher of Sangria.

Here we are at the table....

Me:

And Brian being strange:

Our server was Luca. He was really nice, but his English wasn't so great. So we were a little worried at first if he understood what we were asking. He wasn't familiar with TIW, which we wanted to use for the Sangria. But everything was fine - he did a fabulous job.

I ordered the lasagna that I had been dreaming about since eating here back in October with the girls....

And Brian got the Candele pasta:

Luca brought us out a cute little anniversary dessert dish:

(not-so-hidden Mickey!)

Then for dessert, we got the tiramisu and the ricotta fritters:

After our dinner, we headed to SE to film the "How to use Photopass" video. Here's my pic!

Then we found a spot in Norway to stand and watch Illuminations.

Sigh..... I LOVE Illuminations..... like SO freakin' much!!!

After Illuminations, we lingered a little, as the mass exodus out of the park is always a pain to deal with. I decided to call my mom again and see how Grey Kitty was doing.

Then we left to go back to the resort.

Once back in our room, we decided to watch all the footage so far from the trip. It was then that we realized I should NOT be taping anything. You see, I have a problem with shaking. I just shake. Not really sure why. My dad does it too. And my sister a bit. Guess it's a weird hereditary thing. Sometimes it freaks people out that don't know me and they see my hands shaking all weird. But it's normal for me. I could never have been a surgeon. And clearly, I could never be a camera person either....

After watching our clips, we knew what we would need to re-tape. We got our showers and got to bed so we could be up nice and early the next day!

1. Those ricotta fritters look AMAZING! (insert Homer Simpson drool sound here, because that's totally what I did when I saw the pic :lmao:) Will definitely put them on the list to try in November!

2. The How To Use Photopass video -- I totally need to see that! I'm clueless!

3. And the shaking -- OMG, me too! My aunt as well. We've always had shaky hands. It's so weird! And if I have a ton of caffeine, it's much worse. No idea what it is, but nice to know we're not alone! :goodvibes

Can't wait to read more. Glad to hear you had a great time in Europe - the pics are beautiful! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you had an amazing trip. I will cross all fingers for your upcoming auditions. Are you really going to try to gig in Europe?!? That would be AWESOME!! And you could take a trip to DLP!

I just need to see all of these videos you guys are creating! I'm assuming you'll let us know how to get to them when they're ready?

Final question, what was the name of the restaurant in Italy? ALL of your food looked amazingly good!

Yummm the zebra domes are something that have been calling to me in reports that I really need to try out on this next trip :goodvibes

I love the dress and belt you had on!! Looks like you guys had a great dinner and an excellent view of Illuminations. Is that a usual spot for you guys or do you just pick what looks open?

Glad to hear I'm not alone on the shaking. To me it's totally normal, but it's always awkward when someone looks at you and gets all worried, "oh no, why are you shaking?!" Then you have to explain that you always shake, blah, blah. Good times.

I want to get the videos up as soon as possible. But the editing is actually a huge amount of work too. So far, i started with the Fastpass video editing, then next will be Photopass, as those are the shortest. Once they're done, I'll figure out how to get them viewable to everyone.

Yeah, I figure I at least need to give the Europe idea a fighting chance. I'm not getting any younger. If I at least try, I won't have to wonder through the rest of my life about "what if." Being in Europe really got the bug going for me, I have to say.

And DLP would be awesome!

The videos will ultimately end up on my agency's website, but that might be awhile. So once some are done, I'll figure out how to post them!

Yes - you absolutely must try the zebra domes - so yummy! And thanks on the dress! :)

With Illuminations, we don't have a regular spot that we watch from - we just pick what looks good at the moment. You can see it well from all around the lagoon anyway.

Your trip sounds so fun! I spent a summer in Germany and loved it so much. I had a friend who majored in voice, specializing in opera (? I think that's the right phrasing) and she did a summer at an Austrian school and loved it so much.

I would probably shake on camera so I think it's impressive that you've done so many videos in such a short time! There's so many things (food! fireworks! architecture!) to be distracted by! ;)

I have to say, there's really a different feeling you get when you're over in Europe. I really like it. My German's not bad, but I really would like to work up to be fluent. I'm really getting set in my idea to do some auditions over there.

Sounds like your friend did a similar degree as myself. I could never afford the big summer programs in Austria (the biggy that I'm thinking of is thousands of dollars for the summer.)

My German used to be way better (my family is Pennsylvanian Dutch and my grandparents speak Dutchy, a rather edited version of German so I have all these weird kind-of-but-not-really German phrases mixed into my vocabulary!) but I still enjoy listening to music/reading. I miss having somewhere to practice now that I've gone on to grad school.

Yeah, her program always sounded really impressive to me (I'm usually in the audience for these sorts of things) and the only part I really understood was when she took the Sound of Music bus tour in Salzburg (Christopher Plummer not included :sad1:). Doing a European audition tour certainly sounds very glamorous and exciting!

Illumination is my favorite show at WDW! I could watch it night after night during our stay and won't get tired of it.
It's quite early right now.... DS woke me up.... and I'm drolling over those desserts, zebra dome and ricotta fritters.

*Sigh* - try expensive and stressful! But I figure I at least have to try, right? I'm not the kind of person who likes to play it safe, then live with the regret of not trying. I pulled out my copy of "What the Fach" and am reading up on what I need to do to put together an audition tour and stuff. (For those not in the know, "Fach" is a term for vocal category - a more detailed version of your voice type - mine is coloratura soprano. Fächer (plural of Fach) are strictly adhered to in the German-speaking opera houses. The book title is obviously a play on words, haha.)

As a Pennsylvanian myself, I've heard a good share of Pennsylvania Dutch too! My dad's weird German/Austrian dialect is much closer to PA Dutch than proper Hoch Deutsch.
