We have driven from Glasgow twice and found the experience to be relatively stress free! First time we drove to London and spent weekend there before getting ferry at Dover, last year we drove to ashford, stayed over night then got early eurotunnel which we loved! Driving in France was all done by my DH who preferred driving in France to the uk!
Last year my parents flew from Prestwick to Beauvais and hired a car - they found the drive to DLP no problem, even negotiating rush hour! However none of us had remembered to print them return driving directions so on last day we went to tourist info outside the parks and they gave them directions. These were all wrong and they ended up hopelessly lost, drove past CDG airport 4 times, missed the Ryanair flight from Beauvais and ended up going into CDG, dropping car at hire car office there and booking an EasyJet flight which didn't leave till next morning so they spent the night in CDG! In the end up we got home not long after them!
I think as long as you have good clear directions then driving is fine and on the way to DLP when the mickey signs start popping up along the way the kids start to get really excited!
