Hi. We are taking my two daughters (ages 3 and 2) back to DW this December for the second time. Last year (age 2 and 1) they were scared to death at the Little Mermaid show so we ended up skipping the Beauty and the Beast show because we didn't know what to expect. Can anyone fill me in on the scary factor at the Beauty and the Beast show?

(I think we sat far too close at the little mermaid show, so Ursula was HUGE to them. Perhaps seats further in the back would have helped. :) )

Thanks for the advice!
Lesley

well to be fair ursala is huge. she's 12 feet tall and takes three people to control her.

The only fright factor i can see in Band B is that the Beast does roar very loudly at some parts of the show. other then that i dont' think it's to scary.

I don't remember scary parts in Beauty and the Beast show. In 2004, DD8 and DD6 (DD6 and DD4 in 2004) loved the show.

I think B&B is pretty tame. It's also a huge theater, so you can sit farther back. It is an outdoor theater, so it is never dark in there (unless it's night, I guess) and it's really easy to just pick up and leave if your little ones are unhappy. Our daughter loved this show when she was 2, 3, and 8 years old. I would highly recommend it.

As for Voyage of the Little Mermaid, it was our little mermaid's favorite attraction! After being surprised the first time, we would gently remind her about Ursula so was prepared. That seemed to solve that problem for us. It really is a spectacular show, wish they didn't focus on villains so much at some of these shows, though.

Nothing to worry about - the Beast roars a few times, and he and Gaston do some fake fighting, but I've never seen anyone scared during the show.

I have seen tons of kids (my 2-3 yr old included) scared and crying because of Ursula. Note that if they are scared at Mermaid, they will also probably be scared at Bugs Life at AK.

BatB should be fine for everyone. Remember that it's outside and not dark at all.

Go for it!

I know what you mean about the Mermaid show DS climbed on my head :lmao:

But loved Beauty & the Beast, maybe because it is in open air theatre & wasn't dark.

Beauty and the Beast is basically just a stage adaptation of the show. Just like seeing it at a playhouse theater. Sit near the back and be prepared to leave if necessary, but if they have seen the movie and are okay with it, then it should be fine.

Little Mermaid is more of a sensory experience all around you. It is dark (very dark), there are loud noises, big scary puppets and it really can be overwhelming to young kids. The 2 shows are really not comparable.

Take a look at this clip I shot/edited from the show ("Be Our Guest").

At the end, you'll see a bit of Beast "roaring".

Darn -
I keep getting the message that the video is not available. My DD is really into B&B at the moment. I will have to try again tomorrow.

We took my 4 YO DGD to both shows in January, and she is still talking about how scary the eels are in VOTLM. She refused to go last week, but asked if we could go to the Belle show again. She is very sensitive, and was not at all afraid of this cute show.

Beauty & the Beast stage show is wonderful and not scary at all. It's in complete daylight and it is cheerful and the costumes are great. The music is second only to the Broadway version which I love. I can see why some small children might be scared of VOTLM.

Beauty and the Beast is not scary at all. I see plenty of little kids in the 1st row. There dancing, & singing.

If you sit in the rear third of the theater, everything will appear much smaller. More like seeing a movie.

I don't think you'll have any problems w/ B&B, in fact, I think your kids will be thrilled to pieces!

Also, if at all possible, try & see the pre-show, 4 for a Dollar -- they are great!
