Hello...hope someone can give me some feedback on this.

I just found out that Beauty and the Beast will be coming to the performing arts center in my city. I would like to go, but the tickets are fairly expensive.

Just wondering if anyone has gone and if it is worth seeing. Also, would DS (2 1/2) enjoy it or is it more of an "adult" evening.

Thanks,

We saw this show in NY when my kids were small. We all LOVED it. It is truly a wonderful show and I think your 2y.o. will enjoy it as well. If he can sit through a movie, he should be OK. If he hasn't seen the movie yet, make sure he does so that he can identify the characters. Go for it!

It is coming to my town (Indy) in 2 weeks and I plan to go see it. I will be more than happy to let you know how it is after I have seen it. I have seen the Broadway tourings of shows in this area before and thought they were wonderful. SO and I enjoy the theater so the money is well worth it for us. I know that another DISer here in Indy also has tickets, so if you can wait a few weeks I'm sure we could get you some input!!

I went a little over a year ago. It was wonderful. I hear it is even better on Broadway, but it would be hard. In fact, it brought tears to my eyes. Very magical. I'd go again in a heartbeat.

I have seen it three times in Boston, including twice in less than two weeks. It is amazing and definitely worth every penny. I wouldn't hesitate to see it again and again and again....

i'm the other indy DISer going that disney845 mentioned...i'll let you know!!!!! we're really looking forward to it!!!!!!!!!

For those of you in Indiana going, please let me know how it is.

Based on the overwhelming response, I'll buy tickets the next time I get paid. I could have had 5th row seats tonight. I'll have to see what is available next week. DH doesn't want to go, but I think my mother will go. We've seen Phantom and Jekell and Hyde. Thoroughly enjoyed both of these, so I expect we'll enjoy Beauty and the Beast.

Thank you so much.

in NYC the Broadway theaters DO NOT admit anyone under the age of 4. you might take that into consideration when deciding wther an expensive live stage production of a Broadway show is an apprpriate place for a 2 1/2 year old child.

I saw it last year when my DDs were 9 and 6 and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I don't know about a 2 1/2 year old though--my kids didn't sit through movies well until they were about 4, and I wouldn't take them to musicals at the school where I teach until they were 5.

I saw it in 1995 and thought it was great. Belle's dad was played by none other than Mr. C of Happy Days! :D

Beauty was the first show I took my dd's to see. younger dd was age 4 at the time (she's 10 now). she loved the show but the Beast scared her -- and she'd seen the movie many times. she fell asleep during act II.

My DH got us tickets for Christmas to see it at the Providence performing arts center in April!!! One week before our DW trip to boot. I can't wait. We actually picked our own seats on line, very cool. But this was back in October and all the good seats were already taken.

Tina, if you saw Tom Bosley as Maurice, it's a good bet you saw Susan Egan as Belle. They sing the tune "No Matter What" on the cast CD, and it's very nice.

I've seen Beauty & the Beast, and it is a great show. It's very well done, and there are a couple of songs in it that are not in the movie. The costumes and sets are awesome.

I am all for bringing kids to see live theatre (and I have taken all buy one of my nieces and nephews to see shows), but I think that 2 1/2 is a bit young to sit through a show (in my experience with my nieces and nephews, they enjoy and appreciate it more when they are at least five to truly enjoy a Broadway show, although even at five, they get a bit fidgety). Most Broadway shows run 2 hours and 45 minutes, including intermission, and that is a long time time for a kid that young to be quiet and still. $50-100 for orchestra seats are a lot of money to put out if your child can't sit still that long.

As Briar Rose said, most Broadway theatres do not allow children under the age of four in, and most touring companys follow that rule as well, so if you do decide to bring your little one, make sure that you ask the age requirement before paying for tickets.
