This is my first Trip report so bear with me. I debated on whether to break it up in several posts by day but then I decided to keep it together. I hope that's ok??

Here we go!

Beatty’s Not So Scary Halloween Vacation!

It took 9 months planning our 4th WDW vacation. Our first time going for Halloween!

Cast of Characters: Me – 36, DH – 40, DD’s 3 and 6.

Night before we stayed at a hotel near the airport for a very early AM flight! Rate included parking there for the week. $168 (including taxes) It’s a great deal.

Day 1 – Saturday, October 26 – Beautiful weather; high 80’s!

Got up at 4:15a for 7:15a flight. Arrived around 10:45a and DH got luggage while we went to pick a car off the EA at National. Nothing special; all were Full size. We picked the Buick Century for the trunk space (it can actually fit up to 6 people; there were 6 seat belts). Paid $205 for 8 days. We waited quite awhile for our turn at the check out booth but things went smoothly.

Arrived at the Contemporary around 12:00p to a busy check in counter. We used DVC points to stay in the Tower for the first time (we stayed in the North Wing 2 years ago). The CM offered me a MK view on the 10th floor I said “GREAT”! He also said our room was ready. Room #4626; second to the last down the hall. Pretty quiet although we could hear Chef Mickey’s song once in awhile. Wonderful view! It was great to see the “Goodnight Kiss” from our balcony.

We changed out of our New England winter clothes into shorts and decided to take it easy so we had lunch in the food court and then rented a boat. We decided to get the Captain’s Plan, which is 4 hours of either the mouse boats or the canopy boats (platoon boat) for $113. plus tax. There’s also the Length of Stay plan for about $200. plus tax. We thought this was a great deal. Fyi: Mouse boat fees: $21.69 for ½ hour; $27.35 for 45 minutes and $30.18 for 1 hour. The canopy boat fee was $$34.90 for ½ hour.

We then attempted to go to Church for 6:00p Mass but for some reason got very lost. We ended up being 20 minutes late so decided to go to DTD instead. We then went back and swam for a little while and then off to bed.

Day 2 – Sunday, October 27 (MK day – EE day) Beautiful weather; high 80’s!

Up early for Breakfast at CRT. DD, 3, wore her Belle costume from last year and DD, 6, wore a Belle shirt. We arrived at the park at 8:00a and heard the countdown to the opening of the park. We were seated right away. Characters were Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, and Prince Charming. Downstairs were Jasmine and Fairy Godmother. Atmosphere was great, food was ok. Our just-turned 3-year-old didn’t eat a bite but was still charged full price (I expected that) everywhere we ate. Oh well, it was our choice to have character meals. We were done by 9:15a. Park wasn’t that busy. We got a Fastpass for Pooh and then headed right to Ariel’s Grotto because our DD, 3, is a red head and loves her and she’s going to be her for Halloween so it was a priority. We did several rides in Fantasyland and then headed over to Space Mountain for our DD, 6, first time on it. She did it three times in a row with and without Fastpass. Then DH and DD, 3, left for 11:30a Church. My 6 year old and I stayed and headed to Snow White, then caught the Sword pulling ceremony. Then we headed over to Splash Mountain and then Aladdin ride. We ran into Jasmine and Genii coming out of the souvenir shop and she said to follow her for pictures. We did. Then we rode Aladdin again.

Then DH and DD came back and we met at Aladdin and rode it again and saw Jasmine and Genii again and got a picture again. Then we headed to Peter Pan, which was our longest wait of the day, about 15 minutes. Then we went and got a spot for the parade. Then we did a couple more rides…Aladdin and Splash Mountain and It’s a Small World.

We went back to rest before dinner at Chef Mickey’s at 7:30p. DD, 3, wore her Minnie dress and DD, 6, wore a Minnie shirt and Minnie ears. Characters were Mickey, Minnie, Chip and Dale with Donald and Goofy at the entrance. Food was fine. We bought the photo package for $26 total, which we thought was a good deal, since it came out good.

Then we went and hung out by the shops on the 4th floor and I bought a couple of souvenirs and we caught the MNSSHP fireworks from the 4th floor observatory deck and actually could see the witch fly down! Off to bed.

Day 3 – Monday, October 28 (MGM day) Beautiful weather; high 80’s!

Breakfast in the food court; Arrived at MGM around 9:00a. Headed to ToT and the wait said 15 minutes but it was less. Then DD, 6, went on again with FP with my DH. Then we did FP for RnR but even that didn’t have a long wait. FP wasn’t necessary. Then we headed off to do the shows. We saw Ariel, then Playhouse Disney, and then around 12:00p we headed off to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground but our 3-year-old DD fell asleep. So DD, 6, and I went to see Muppet 3-D movie; no wait. Then we woke DD, 3, up and they went into the playground with Dad. Then we were in search of a lunch box meal we had a couple of years ago and found it at Backlot Express and then headed to the Beauty and the Beast show. Then we RAN over to the parade route. Then we checked out the Sorcerer Mickey’s Hat. We’ve done Fantasmic! twice now and did the package both times but refused to do it this year with the new policy. I’m glad I didn’t because our 3 year old wouldn’t have liked it and I was thinking of just going with my 6 year old but it didn’t work out so I’m glad we didn’t buy it. We left MGM about 4:20p. We decided to go in search of a Wal-Mart or K-Mart for underwear for my DH. DH is a procrastinator and packs either the night before or the morning of a trip and he forgot to pack underwear!! Last vacation, he forgot sneakers. Anyway, it took us 2 hours to find a K-mart. I wasn’t too happy. We went back to the hotel and swam and caught the Electric Water Pageant and then went to bed.

Day 4 – Tuesday, October 29 (MK Day again) Beautiful weather; high 80’s!

Breakfast at Concourse Steakhouse at 8:20a. It was alright. I didn’t like my French Toast. We rode in the front of the Monorail to MK for the first time. I had heard about it and told my husband and he then asked a CM how we go about doing it and he said you just have to be the first to ask so we lucked out. Arrived at MK around 9:30a and just caught the Cinderella Show in front of the Castle. It was very good and the girls enjoyed it very much. Ran over to Fantasyland and it wasn’t that busy so we rode Dumbo 2 times in a row and then Pooh again and Snow White again (DD, 3, wasn’t afraid to my surprise). Then we headed toward Tomorrowland and ran into Maleficent in front of the Character Festival. My DD, 6, was leery but wanted a picture so I agreed to go with her. DD, 3, wanted no part of her. While we were waiting our turn, my DH said loudly “She knows who has the “real” power, Mickey Mouse!” Well, she stopped what she was doing and charged toward my DH and said in his face “Little men like yourself should watch what they say!” She was very tall and had colored contacts; my husband was taken a back a bit. Then the CM with her said “I hope you sleep well tonight”. My DD was a bit nervous when Maleficent went toward my DH so she hid behind me. Then it was our turn to go up and Maleficent wasn’t too happy with us since we were with ‘him’. My DD yelled at my DH for the rest of the day about getting Maleficent ‘angry’. Now it’s a funny, fond memory.

DD went on Space Mountain 2 more times, once with each of us with FP. She went a total of 5 times! Then we did Astro Orbiter, Buzz, then off to Toontown and did Mickey’s and Minnie’s houses. Then we did Goofy Barnstormer, which was our 3 year old’s first time. We then took the train to Main Street to leave but saw Daisy so we got her autograph and picture. Then we ran into Timon, Raffiki and then Jasmine and Snow White. Then after the exit, we saw Mickey and Minnie at the entrance. There were definitely more characters around.

We went back to the resort and rented a boat again. Then we got ready for our dinner at 1900 Park Fair. We rode in the front of the Monorail again (and our last time) to the GF. Characters were Pooh, Eeyore, and Tigger with Piglet and Goofy at the entrance. Food was good and so were the characters, especially Tigger. Then we headed off to DTD again for some fun and souvenirs. Then back to the resort for bed.

Day 5 – Wednesday, October 30 (AK day) Rained for an hour then cloudy but hot.

Started our day looking for the Krispy Kreme shop. It was pretty easy to find and not too far away. It was World Drive to Route 192. It was our first time and they were yummy! Coffee was ok. Then we headed to AK and arrived mid-morning.
At the entrance, we saw Mulan and Jane but only got Mulan’s autograph and picture. It started raining about 5 minutes after we got there. We headed to the Safari ride and at least were somewhat under cover. Then we went to Lion King show and then it stopped raining. Then we headed to Dinoland. We got a Fastpass for the new Primeval Whirl rollercoaster (our 6 year old couldn’t ride it but I don’t understand why!). Then we all rode the Triceratops Spin, which is just like Dumbo, but they are dinosaurs. Then we went to see Tarzan Rocks (I didn’t like it, except for Tarzan himself!) Then it was time for our FP for the rollercoaster. It was ok ride. Nothing spectacular.
Then we decided to leave but kept running into characters. We saw Daisy, Perla, and Suzie. Then we saw Pluto. Then we ran into Lilo and Stitch and there was a long line for them. Then at the exit we saw Jane and Mulan again and this time got Jane’s autograph and photo. We also got Terk’s.

We went swimming again and then got ready for the 8:00p Luau show. It was a great show but both DD’s fell asleep. I was sad about that cause I know they would have liked it. They loved Lilo and Stitch and want to go to Hawaii someday so I booked it. Oh well. I’ll wait to go again when they are about 10 years old.

Day 6 – Thursday, October 31, Halloween! Cloudy and bit cooler but still warm; no rain!

Epcot and MNSSHP day (our last WDW day)
Princess Breakfast in Norway at 9:10a. Girls did not dress up this time. Characters were Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Belle, Jasmine, and Mulan. Food ok; a lot like CRT. While our DD’s were getting their picture with Snow White (and then Sleeping Beauty), some guy with a BIG camera was also taking pictures. I was wondering who he was and what was up and then when he was done, he gave us a Disney Magazine and told us he was from Disney Magazine and then the guy he was with got our names and address in case they use our photos! That was interesting!

Then we headed straight to Test Track for Fastpasses. This would be our DD, 6, first time. She got to go 2 times. Then we went on Spaceship Earth and then over to “Honey I Shrunk the Audience” movie. DD, 3, didn’t like it one bit. Then we left. My DH promised the 3 year old that she could hug Ariel one more time so we headed back to MK. On our way there, I realized we lost one child’s pass! Thank God it was our last day at WDW!

When we got to MK, the CM in Guest Services did some research and couldn’t help us but he let us in. We stayed about an hour; just long enough to see Ariel one more time. On our way out, we walked right by the Wiggles! I couldn’t believe it. They were surrounded by CM’s walking them through Fantasyland. I couldn’t even get my camera out in time. I think I got one photo. In front of the Castle, we saw Max for the first time and our DD’s wanted his autograph so we got in line. Then we went back to the resort. I thought we’d relax and I’d do some packing and laundry but my DH wanted to fit in one more boat rental so he offered to do the laundry in between renting the boat. Well, needless today, he made us late for our LTT PS at 5:35p. I believe we got there at 5:40p. Our DD’s dress up as Christmas Belle (6 year old) and Ariel (3 year old) and DH dressed up as the Beast! Some people actually thought he was the real Beast! The characters at LTT were Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale and they were in costumes, which was really neat! Food was good. We were done by 6:50p. They wouldn’t let us leave that area until 7:00p but there was a photo place right there so we were first in line and they started right at 7:00p. Then we searched out Trick or Treat areas, heading toward Fantasyland. Our DD, 6, said she wanted to try Haunted Mansion for the first time. I couldn’t believe it. She was a bit scared but she survived. Then we continued Trick or Treating heading toward Tomorrowland and then over to Toontown. Toontown was neat. It had 4 Trick or Treat spots, 2 of them being Mickey and Minnie’s houses with Mickey and Minnie waiting in the back of each of their houses with costumes on. The line was long for that so we didn’t do it. We also did Goofy’s Barnstormer 2 times. Our DD, 6, was complaining that she didn’t feel good. That her stomach hurt but she didn’t know what kind of stomachache. We thought it was that she didn’t eat dinner but still wanted to have some candy or something. She also seemed tired.

The Trick or Treat lines were long but they went very fast. Then we headed back toward Fantasyland but the lines appeared long for rides so we were about to head to Aladdin when the Sorcerer by the Sword came out. I thought they were going to do the sword thing again but he just told a story. Half way through his story, our DD, 6, ran to DH and he picked her up and she was crying and then she just threw up all over herself, him, and my shoes. It was terrible. We took her over to a bench outside of the Snow White ride. We got her cleaned up and I ran into the store right across from the bench called Tink’s Treasures and I couldn’t find anything good. It was mostly costumes and pajamas so I asked a wonderful CM (Jasmine) for help. She searched and found me a tee shirt and sweatpants that were 6x and then she wouldn’t let me pay. She said there were “no strings attached”. I was very thankful.

Well, while I was getting the outfit, the fireworks went off so DD’s missed the witch fly down. Then we asked her what she wanted to do and she said she really wanted to stay to see the second parade. So we took a walk over to Main Street to see what the crowds were like and decided to get a spot. Both DD’s fell asleep before the parade. We tapped it for them. It was pretty good! Then we headed out after the parade, about 11:20p Half way down Main Street, DD threw up again all over Main Street. Poor thing. She was so upset and embarrassed. Then she fell asleep again. We saw Sully on our way out. I took a picture to show the girls later on. Then we walked back to the resort. Our DD threw up every hour that night till 5:00a. Then it stopped.

Day 7 – Friday, November 1 – Heading to Universal now….Cooled off a bit but still warm.

Heading to Royal Pacific Resort at Universal. Staying in Club level for $139 a night. Resort was nice but expensive regarding food and tipping and parking.

Got a late start due to DD being sick. She was feeling a little better but very tired and afraid to eat. We stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way.

We checked in around 12:30p. Room was ready. DD, 6, took a nap with DH, and DD, 3, and I headed to Islands of Adventure. We arrived about 2:30p. We went to Seuss Landing. We rode One Fish, Two Fish, Cat in the Hat, and the Carousel. Then we ran into the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and got her picture with them. I thought she’d be afraid but she wasn’t at all. Then we got a call from DH that they were on their way because DD was feeling much better. We all then rode those same rides again. Then we made a circle around the park. It was closing at 5:30p because of Halloween Horror Night. I did get to go on Spiderman (DD, 6, went on with me but didn’t like it) and Dr. Doom Fearfall (one of my favorite rides!). Then we left the park 5 minutes before closing.

We had dinner at Friendly’s (our DD’s choice since she had been sick). Then off to bed early since everyone was tired from the Halloween night before.

Day 8 – Saturday, November 2 –Universal Studios….Warm and Sunny.

Today I awoke sick with the runs and nausea. Because of this, we got a late start. I was miserable but didn’t want to miss anything or have my DD’s miss anything because I wasn’t there to go on the rides with them. We arrived around 12:00p and right at the entrance we saw Shrek and Lord Farquaad. My 6 year old wanted a picture but not by herself so I went with her. We also saw Jimmy Newtron and the wild boy from the Wild Thornberry’s and we saw Angelica.

We headed toward the Barney show and the Woody Woodpecker rollercoaster because our 3 year old was dying to go on it after seeing our home movies of our 6 year old on it. First we did Barney show. She loved it. (Last year, she cried because of the darkness). Then we headed over the Woody. It was hot and the line was a bit long. After about 10 minutes our 3 year old complained of a tummy ache and I thought it was that she wasn’t eating. Well, she threw up right in the line for Woody. We had to leave the line and clean her up. She wanted to go back in line and we told her it wouldn’t be good for her tummy. She really wanted to stay so we took her to the Curious George playground and stayed there for about an hour and then she threw up again. She must have what our other daughter had 2 days ago. So she and I left the park since I didn't feel good anyway. My DH and 6 year old stayed and did a bunch of rides: ET, Earthquake, Back to the Future, MIB, and Twister. Then they came back and my husband took over with the 3 year old and the throwing up. At one point she threw up all over the bed! It was terrible. They both went to bed early about 8:00p and then my DH got me some dinner, a steak, from downstairs. Then we went to bed too.

Day 9 – Sunday, November 3 – Going Home!….Warm and Sunny.

Our flight was at 11:35a. We left the resort at 9:30a and then we got gas and returned the car. Checked in and were boarded right away.

Home at last! Went straight to the kennel to get our 5 Toy Poodles!

Overall a nice trip except for the illnesses. Beautiful weather, lots of characters and low crowds and short lines! I’d go again that week in a heartbeat! We had to buy another suitcase for the souvenirs!

Now I need to start planning for our next trip December 2003 at the BWV!!

Oh man..how awful to get sick on vacation! Its nice to hear about the Magic still showing up to help out when you need it. Thanks for your report. You did a great job!

Illnesses aside it sounds like you had a great time!

I feel for your DH. Even if I pack early, I always forget something. Usually it's my toothbrush, but most recently the trend is my socks as well!

Sounds like you guys had a great trip. I hate you hear that you & DD got sick though. It was a pleasure to meet you at LTT!

It was nice seeing you, too, Jennymouse. Too bad we didn't talk more.

For some reason I didn't expect you to have that accent. I never looked to see where you were from!

And you are a young DGM! Not what I would expect a DGM to look like!

I read your post on your first day and I'm sorry to hear how your DD behaved. I'm sorry your first day was so stressful!

See ya around!;)

Did you see two familys skipping & hopping through the MK on Sunday?
We did the Family Magic Tour in the AM with our 3 1/2 yo DD & another family with a 5 yo DD. We all loved it. We got to meet Peter Pan & Wendy & have a front of the line ride with them on Peter's ride.
Sorry we didn't bump into each other.
I am truly sorry about all three fo you being ill while on vacation:(
I'm glad you had a lot of fun despite it!
