I went with a couple of co-workers to a conference in St. Augustine that was supposed to be Tues. through Friday but I talked the girl (I say girl because she's 25 years my junior but she's the mother of 2) into skipping work on Friday and going to IOA. She had never been to Universal or any of the Disney parks. She told me that she loved rollercoasters which scared the beejesus out of me. I took a couple of dramamine before we left St. Augustine at 6 a.m. and traffic caused us to arrive at RPR at 8 a.m. Her husband and kids were going to meet her that night and had ressies at the Peabody. She had purchased after 5 tickets for Saturday's Mardi Gras and had arranged for a babysitter. Since I was staying at RPR by myself and the room I had booked allowed 3 guests I included them as staying in my room so we all could have FOTL. Check in was flawless and we were off to IOA arriving to an open park at a quarter to 9.
Our first stop was the Hulk. We stood on the bridge and watched it take off. I told her it went 0-40 in 2 seconds and she didn't beleive me by looking at it. It was a different story when we rode it. I had rode the Hulk twice before so it wasn't too scary for me. She was impressed by the power of the green machine. Our next stop was Dr. Doom. I have never tried this ride because the last time I rode Tower of Terror I got sick as a dog. I was scared but got on. It really fooled me because it wasn't that bad! Next stop Spidey. She was impressed with the sensory drop. We shot through Toon Lagoon and I told her we'd save the water rides until later. We got on JPRA and got misted. She fussed at me because I didn't tell her when to put her hands up for the photo. Next stop had me shaking since I'd never rode DD and had no intentions of doing so and will likely never do it again. She was thrilled. We stopped at Mythos and I wrote my name in for noon. We went on to Seuss Landing and did the Caro-Seuss-el, One Fish Two Fish and CITH broke down just as we got to the loading platform. We had lots of time before lunch so we re-rode Spidey then the Hulk. I had just doubled my Hulk rides to a total of 4 now. The dramamine was still working! We returned to CITH and it made me a little queasy. We walked back to Mythos and it was only 11:30 but we went in and sat down. We were seated at the window within a couple of minutes (barely enough time to read their menu). I got the Cowboy Bar B Q and she got the Thai chicken. She expected to have hot dogs or hamburgers at a theme park and was pleasantly surprised. After lunch we return to JPRA and both had our hands in the air for the photo this time. We got a little wetter than just a spritz. Now it was time to get soaked. We rode Dudley and when you get to the top I looked over to RPR and could see my room. She got soaked but not as bad as the next ride, Popeye's. We got on a barge with a VIP tour and when the ride was over the guide asked if they wanted to go again and they did so they let us stay on with them. Both of us were soaked. She called her husband and they had just arrived at the Pea so we left and took the pedicab to RPR and I drove her, still soaking, to her hotel and got before 4. She checked in looking like a drowned rat. I went back to my Executive Suite at RPR and even though the parks were open till 10 I didn't leave the room.
The next night we did US from 5 to 10 and I did rides that I normally sit out like Mummy and BTTF. I got them on all of the must do's before the concert but even with FOTL it was difficult. They both had a great time and really appreciated my help and guidance. We were all extremely sore from all of the walking. I had to take pain meds to be able to walk in the morning.
I decided not to tell the family when I got home but will surprise the kids with my new found ride courage during this weekend's Grad Bash!
