we arrive back to Gatwick at roughly midnight, does anyone have any experiences of returning at this sort of time and sorting out the jet lag quickly? :)

After twenty plus trips across the pond I've tried everything to tackle jet lag.......staying up, going to bed, sleeping on the flight..........and found nothing much works. I still feel rough for about three days. Sorry!

nothing works....
the return jet lag is deadly....
sometimes it goes on for weeks!!
though some of that might also be depression from no longer being at the happiest place on earth!! :)

We travel a couple of times a year and the best thing we have found is just getting back in to routine as quickly as possible. Due to the lack of sleep on the return means we feel tired for a day or so but nothing too bad really.

We usually land home one morning and back to work the next which means a 5.15 alarm call!!

I'm currently still suffering, got back to the UK at 10.45am on Friday, had to go back to work today and I'm a mess ha ha. I basically just tried to get back into my normal routine as soon as possible, stayed awake until my normal bedtime and tried to wake up slightly earlier each day. Can't say it's totally worked though!

If you stay awake during the flight and arrive around midnight, you can go straight to bed as it were a normal day. It's better than arriving around noon and going to bed. So maybe it's better this way?

You could try some JetEase tablets, we've used them before and it did help us manage until we made it home to our own bedso_O they are packed with extra B vitamins. We purchased ours from a store in Covent Garden but you do need to take them about every 4 hours or so. We napped for a couple of hours on return and then tried to carry on as a normal day and went to bed at our usual time.

We have always landed and got home around 11 am ish, i force myself to stay awake through the afternoon then get in bed by 7 and sleep right through,I get up that following morning and go straight in to my usual routine.

If you know you will get back late night I would suggest trying not to sleep on the flight and going to bed as usual .

I find the arrival jet lag worse the excitement combined with lack of sleep makes me feel drunk and a bit crazy.

Yeah I think staying awake until I get home is the best option. Not sure I'd manage if I was getting back during the day :sad2:

We have landed back in the early hours and had to make our way back up north from Manchester which can take until mid-day and we often detour to pick up the fur kids on the way home. It's often close to lunch time by then and we don't sleep on the planes either(way too much going on). So by the time we unpack and sort out other things it's mid afternoon so we take a quick nap and then cook dinner as normal and go to bed at our regular time. The years we have used the JetEase was much easier for our bodies and minds to cope with it all, you could however just take regular doses of b vitamins they don't last long so they soon leave the system. They do help your metabolism and brain reactions though, at least it's what I noticed. There's nothing as good as coming back to your own bed to sleep after an enjoyable holiday.
