Whats the best out of these two beaches for spending a day relaxing by the sea.cocoa beach or daytona beach.
Or should i drive over to the east coast to clearwater?

In my opinion I prefer Daytona beach you can drive you car right onto the beach. Cocoa beach had too many jelly fish warnings.:earseek: :wave2:

We went to Clearwater and to Cocoa Beach on our last trip. They are very different. It really depends what you are looking for.

IMHO Clearwater is more upmarket - I found Cocoa Beach very tacky. The sea is warmer and calmer at Clearwater - no real surf, whereas there was a surf competition going on at Cocoa Beach.
It also took us considerably longer to drive to Clearwater than it did to Cocoa Beach.

We are currently planning our next trip and intend to spend one day at the beach. My preference would be Clearwater - but DH & DS want to go to Cocoa or Daytona. Like I say, it depend what you're looking for.

We love St Petes and Clearwater, they make a lovely day out. We usually break up the journey by stopping to have breakfast on the way etc..

CLEARWATER!! without a doubt!! Cocoa Beach is, as someone already said, tacky. Imagine Rhyl with sunshine:p . I love Clearwater, Treasure Island, St Petes etc. What we do is drive a little further down the I-75 (hope this is the right road number!!) to Ellenton...do the mall, then cut accross to the southern end of the Sunshine Skyway (BIG bridge spanning Tampa Bay). You can then turn onto a lovely rd (small toll) which runs from St Petes up to Clearwater, via Treasure Island. Reccomend you stop at St Johns pass for lunch and a boat trip!

If you want to swim, then the Gulf on the west coast is (in my opinion) much safer than the rough Atlantic coast of Cocoa and Daytona on the East. Great for Surfing, but not ideal for wimpy swimmers! Too many darn sharks for my liking too! Yes, Im such a saddo, but even the merest fleck of seaweed brushing my leg is a Great White in my world ;) .

Clearwater.

The only thing Cocoa Beach has got going for it is Ron Jon's Surf Shop. That's worth a visit, but we don't really go much for CB. Its like being at a UK beach.

Clearwater on the other hand is white sand, gentle waves, warm water, interesting pier (yes, I know CB has one too), marina, aquarium, parasailing, cruises etc.

Clearwater every time for us!

Clearwater or St Pete's anyday.

They only take 1.5 hrs max to get to and well worth it. The drive down from Orlando is simple and a few interesting things to look at on the way:D

Beaches on the west coast, Clearwater, St Petes are different class to the likes of Cocoa/Daytona..in the quality of the beach that is.

Cocoa/Daytona, haven't been there for a long time, think there is possibly more going on at Daytona, Clearwater/StPetes more quiet and relaxed.
They are further away from Orlando though, but for us worth the extra drive.
