Hi! I am not sure if we want to do an official excursion or just go to the nearest, nicest beach. Most of the excursions look to be all day and with a 3.5 year old I want to keep it low key.

Any suggestions?
How hard is it to get transportation from the beach BACK to the boat (I have a huge fear of missing the boat)?
Is there a place at Port to easily get local currency?

Would love any thoughts from past cruisers.

Thanks!!

We always go to Nachi Coccum in Cozumel. It is a nice all inclusive beach. They don't have a lot of exa activities, but they limit the number of guests, so it is never crowded. The drinks and the food are great.

You will not need to get local currency. Taxis and beach clubs all charge you in USD. Getting a taxi to the beaches in Cozumel is very easy, as there is a taxi stand right in the port. Coming back, the beach club will call a taxi for you and it is usually there in about 5 minutes. Just make sure you remember the port that you came into because there are two different ports in Cozumel. The taxi driver will probably know, but it is good to double check.

Our Ds is 3 and we just went to Maya Chan Beach in Costa Maya. It wasn't a very long day, but it was so relaxing.. uncrowded, great food/drink (all included), toys, a pinata for the kids, snorkeling, kayaks, etc. They only take 40 people per day and provide transportation just outside the port plaza area. I hope we can go back again some time!

Good to hear a first hand report! I've made a reservation for Oct 1st.

Another vote for Nachi Cocum in Cozumel. Great low key beach and very calm water. Great place for young kids.

Food was great especially the Guacamole!

Thanks for all the great ideas. I will check out those beaches! I am assuming you arranged for those on your own and not through Disney, correct?

Nochi Cocom is on your own. If you choose this option, you may want to book in advance, depending on how many ships are in port that day. On busy days, they will sell out, but the last time we were there, only two boats were in port and it was no where close to capacity.

We've booked nachi cocum for our stop in Cozumel in January. The only thing I'm nervous about is having to get our own transportation to and from the ship. I've only ever used cruise ship excursions so this is our first venture out on our own...and in Mexico of all places.

We haven't been yet, but have also heard good things about Paradise Beach. It is a pay as you instead of all-inclusive and sounds a but busier than Nachi. Our kids are not really the "relaxing type" so I don't want to disturb everyone at Nachi!

In Cozumel, we took a cab to Paradise Beach. I really liked it. It was not all inclusive, and prices for food and drink were very reasonable. They have a huge pool near the main entrance that we loved. They also have free wi-fi on the beach as well as a computer to use for free at the bar.

Cabs line up at the entrance waiting to take people back to their ships.

Here is their web-site link:

We did Passion Island... I know Disney has an excursion there as well. (we did it on Carnival) I think the only difference is that the transportation is on a speed boat Disney's excursion. But the beach is beautiful. and there were all kinds of water toys to play with. (trampolines, climbing balls etc.).

It was probably one of the most most beautiful beaches I have ever seen.
