Beaches and Cream....why is it so neglected by UOG???

I didn't even know it existed until I found these boards. It sounds fantastic. I'm trying to slate it in for a late lunch/early dinner on our last day before leaving. DH will probably grumble about it, he'll want to stay at MK till the last second and then drive straight out, but I think it'd be a really nice end.

Can I, does anyone know, get a rice cream kind of dessert for my DD who is allergic to milk?

Thanks!

Kris

I don't have an answer on the rice cream but I do agree that it is overlooked by the UOG. In fact, I think the UOG has gotten extremely cautious almost negative in the last few years. It used to be my favorite guidebook but I don't even buy it any more. I am all about being honest but we visit WDW a couple of times a year and find I like Passporter or Birnbaums much better. Beaches and Cream is a great place tucked in an out of the way corner of the "world".

Shhhhh...... That place is busy enough! I don't want it in any guide book at all! As a matter of fact it really stinks so don't go there!

UOG is hardly tbe reference I'd choose to learn about WDW dining.
Stick with these boards over ANY published guidebook.

::yes::

UOG is one of my favorite guide books. I buy it every year but I skip over the dining reviews. Many of the places my son and I love, are places they say to avoid.

They definitely seem down on the dining, that's for sure....I've spent more time on this board than most of the others at DIS!

We're trying a bunch, all new to us, this visit.

Boma, CRT, Chef Mickey's, Toy Story Pizza Planet, Ohana, Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki, Whispering Canyon, Beaches and Cream!

I wanted to see lots of the resorts decorated for Christmas, too....

We saw B&C on the travel channel. It looked bigger on TV than it is in reality. Basic burger fare. We are not big fans of their service or seating arrangements. Best tip would be if you are going to go--go when it is not crowded.

We will be trying Beaches and Cream for the first time this trip, as well. I want to try some new places this go-round, so we will also be visiting Rose & Crown, Flying Fish Cafe, Narcoossee's, 50s Prime Time and House of Blues.

I love the UOG, but I rarely agree with any guidebook when it comes to dining. I mostly read it for the nostalgia of feeling like I am at the World. I stick to the opinions here.

We went to B&C back in May. The food was okay - think Steak N Shake.

I'm a dessert freak, so the ice cream was definately the highlight of the meal for me.

I would go back, but probably just for the ice cream.

Also, as someone posted earlier, it is very small and ALWAYS busy.

3 booths, 5 tables for four, 1 table for two, and 15 counter seats. Total of 49 seats. A couple of Magical Gatherings™ would fill it!

It's good, but not worth a long wait! Nearby Alternatives: Dolphin Fountain has a similar menu. Also ESPN club or Big River Grille. I wouldn't say any of them are better than B&C, but they may be less crowded.

If you look in the back of the UOG, you will see the form that they want you to clip out and fill in to rate the restaurants. It lists all the restaurants, then asks you to give it a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down." People who do that alone are not indicating the reason for their rating. For example, if someone had to wait an hour for the table, but found the food good, they may give it a thumbs down because of the length of the wait.

To answer your question...I have to confess.

I stole a menu from Beaches and Cream (for scrapbooking). And I don't see Rice Cream on it. But they do have orange sherbet, if she likes that. And brownies.

I think the UG skips B&C because it is just a small place by the pool at the Beach Club.

We stayed at BC, and loved Beaches and Cream.

Yea, the UG is a little food-snobby. But if you don't like the food-snobby places, there is still a lot of help. I relied on their counter-service recommendations, and was pleased with the results. Besides, food snobs need help, too!

I just wish they'd tell you if food-snob places (like Boma) also had regular people food. So you'd know if your mixed-palate group could still go there.

It is not on the menu, you have to ask. But they did have some non-dairy ice cream type stuff for my nephew, who is allergic to dairy and eggs. I don't remember if it was rice or soy based.
