beaches and cream.... how is the food?

I have never, in all of my 18 years of going to WDW as an adult, gone to beaches and cream.

Still working on my dining plan for early december disney trip (what? doesn't everyone spend 80 hours mulling over their restaurant choices 10 months in advance?!) and right now in general the idea is the front load all of my expensive meals into 3 nights of DxDDP and then slack off last 4 nights and pay as I go.

I HAD been planning to do Coral Reef but it just doesn't fit into my schedule of everything else with an early lunch.... my plan had been to book the first seating and check in early so we have a good chance of being against the tank. Now that I can't do that and all bets are off, I'm thinking of saving this restaurant for a time when I can do that and instead have dinner at beaches and cream, which was never on my radar for this trip due to bad value on the DDP (was planning to do regular DDP for entire trip).

So how is the food there? Also lunch that day is going to be Sci Fi dine in and I was planning just to have the mixed apps and a shake. is the food just too similar? The real draw is sharing one of those huge and yummy ice cream sundaes with my kiddo honestly :) but a hot dog for him and my only burger of the trip for me (or a patty melt, or grilled cheese and tomato soup, or or or) might not be so bad.

Is the food decent here or is it just the ice cream?

The food is good! It's a fun place, and the menu selections are greater now that a reservation is necessary for a table.

The food is decent. It's ice cream parlor food. We stick with the basics. burgers, fries and sandwiches.
Like MHDTS we thinks it's a fun casual dining place. we generally go for lunch as an alternative to park food.

Most of the food is decent/good. Except for the No Way Jose Sundae, which is really good!

Can you get sundaes from a walk up window? I have an ADR but we already have breakfast and dinner ADRs that day so I was thinking of splitting a meal with DH or maybe just going for sundaes.

Do they still have the Mickey Pants sink with Sundae somewhere?
We are going in March, and would love to try it!!

From the pics, I prefer that one to the big silk kitchen sink. And I would like to keep the Mickey sink also.

No Way Jose is the whole reason I want to go, lol. I'm guessing it would be frowned upon to go just for the ice cream. We will be going from HS to Epcot around dinner time so a stop at the BC wouldn't be out of order at all. Would it be rude to spoil our dinner with a shared sundae and not order food?

drawing a complete blank on MHDTS, lol. been gone a while ;)

edited to add so no one is confused, MHDTS is a person, not a restaurant lol

I plan to do the same. I wonder if the cost of the sundaes equals an entree price anyway depending upon what you get.

actually true. I think a hot dog meal or grilled cheese and soup is about that. Honestly I figure 2 meals and a split sundae (I'd drink water, kids meal comes with beverage) is about the same price as a more expensive QS for us, $35 or so. does not include tip though but still right on IMO. Most expensive entree for me (which I might not necessarily get, is $15.99), kids meal is $8.99, sundae is $8.49, with tax $35.65. That is on par with lunch at wolfgang puck express or the like. I'd more likely get grilled cheese and tomato soup or something though but who knows!

We went for the first time this past trip.

Best patty melt I've ever had. Seriously. The burger is crispy on the outside and cooked to perfection. The onions are caramelized, it's well seasoned. Oh man, I wish it wasn't a Friday during Lent right now!

As for the ice cream - it's big and there's a lot of it. I'm not a big chocolate ice cream fan and got the No Way Jose. I wish I knew it was all chocolate and not chocolate and vanilla. Live and learn. I'll get vanilla next year!

The food is just ok. The shakes are really good. We wouldn't go back to eat there. There are just way too many other places are better.

the menu says chocolate and vanilla! from allears: No Way Jose - A Peanut Butter and Hot Fudge delight featuring Chocolate and Vanilla Ice Cream, Peanut Butter and Chocolate Morsels, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry $8.49

But we both love chocolate so we'd be ok with that! seriously the patty melt is what I was thinking of! the two big questions: did the rye have seeds and do you think they'd sub cheddar for swiss? yes i am a little bit of a fusspot!

The food is so-so and I have never had great service at Beaches and Cream. Each time I have gone there, they have asked if we want a full menu or are just there for dessert, so they don't care if you are only there for the ice cream. We preferred The Fountain at The Dolphin to Beaches and Cream. Both restaurants feature casual food and ice cream and are in the same general area, but we liked the food at The Fountain better, it wasn't as crowded, and the service was better. However, The Fountain isn't on the DDP.

I think our server got it wrong. It didn't ruin the ice cream - believe me, I almost ate all of it... but I would have loved vanilla ice cream.

As for the patty melt, yes it had seeds. Not sure if you can change it up, but it's a diner setting, so I'd imagine you can. My mom and I actually split the patty melt. Our server was nice enough to split it and provide us each with our own fries. We have big appetites, but I wanted to make sure I had room for ice cream!

I don't have a huge appetite and my son would not touch that with a 10 foot pole, lol. maybe grilled cheese and soup is a better option for me. or maybe i could just leave whatever i don't want behind... it's disney after all!

I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was really yummy. Not the most amazing meal I've ever had, I wouldn't really rave about the food, but it was good. The portions weren't ginormous but enough to fill you up with some room for ice cream. No Way Jose was SO good, but my fiance and I didn't even come close to finishing it together.

We've had the Cuban and burgers and all of it has been really good. The menu is small and the fare are basic sandwiches and burgers, but you're going more for the sundaes than the entrees themselves. We go out of our way to go there every trip just for the No Way Jose!
