we would like to go to Beaches and Cream before our Illuminations cruise as we have never been there before and it sounds good fun. I've heard it can get very busy. We have to be at our cruise around 8.00 what time would you suggest going cos I've tread it can get very busy. Also can you walk there from the Boardwalk? Thanks for any help.

Why not go a couple of hours before your cruise? That way, you are not rushed or worried about making the boat but.........if you do finish early, you can take a nice stroll around the boardwalk - there's entertainment and shopping. It's an easy, pretty walk.

Yes you can walk there from the Boardwalk. It is about 10-15 minutes depending upon how fast you "stroll". You can also hop on the MGM boat at the BW dock. The MGM boat goes from the BW straight across the lagoon to the YC/BC (then to Swan/Dolphin and MGM). Do not take the EPCOT boat as this goes to the International Gateway and you will have to walk back from there.
Beaches and Cream does get crowded at night especially after EPCOT closes. If you get there around 6:00 PM you should have plenty of time to eat before your cruise. Keep in mind that it is a very small restaurant with VERY limited seating.
BTW, the cruise is a lot of fun. You don't actually go into the lagoon at EPCOT but park underneath the bridge that is between England and France. You can bring snacks and sodas with you if you want. Not sure about beer, but they do charge an "uncorking" fee if you bring a bottle of wine.
