This site has been a great resource for me in planning our cruise, I am so excited  that I stumbled upon it!

This will be the first cruise we take with our 3yr old daughter (affectionately known as the princess: ). Is it a good idea to take some beach toys from home for use on Castaway Cay... you know, the basics (pails, shovels, molds, etc..)? Or by chance, does DCL provide them? She would be staying with us on the beach and not in the Club area for the kids.

Any input/ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Hi welcome to the boards, two little known facts (well i didn't know them ) Family games are available at Castaway Jo's / Grouper Pavillion shuffleboard, billiards, foosball, and a sandbox full of toys, kids also have their own supervised playgournd at scuttle cove and you can check out sand toys there too, first come first served, alternatively you could always arrange for shirley from the perfect gift to do you a bucket of toys to be onboard for your little one.

They must end up with a lot of extra sand toys by the time one month is up at CC...I know everytime we go we bring a bucket and shovel and then leave them there as do many others I was talking with!

We brought our own and I was glad we did. We used them on the beach in St. Maarten and then again at CC. We did not check out the toys there but it was nice to have our own. We shared with all the people around us and some adults made a huge sandcastle and let the kids tear it down. It didn't take up that much room in the luggage.

You can purchase sand toys at @16.00 per set.

Its probably worthwhile to pack your own if you have room. They are very expensive on CC - and while there are some available, there aren't nearly enough (I'm sure they toss most of the leftovers, it isn't in their interest when selling $4 worth of sandtoys for $16 to have enough free toys for everyone!)

If you don't have room, the buckets from Shirley look adorable and won't set you back much more than the ones on CC - and she'll stuff them with treats. I intended to do this, then got too cheap, then was too cheap (and too busy) on the beach to buy my kids toys - but there were willing sharers around us (thank you if you've ever shared sand toys) and we weren't there long.

We went to check out sand toys and there were none. We were some of the first people off the boat at CC also. We did have a pail with 2 shovels that we bought on Grand Cayman but with 2 toddlers and our 2 yo cousin there also we didn't want a toddler fight. We didn't buy any toys on CC because it is a rip off when the same toys can be puchased at the local dollar store for a buck or two so we used empty plastic drink cups for pails and did buy a couple water balls and the kids were happy. The only problem we did have was a few older kids next to us went right over to our toddlers and took the pail and shovels away. Couldn't quite understand this but we just politely asked for them back then when the kids got bored with them told the older kids they were welcome to use them. We didn't leave them on CC but brought them home with us.

Welcome to the Dis, I am glad you found all of us!!

We purchased our sand toys from Shirley at the Perfect Gift. It worked our great for us. The pales were filled with lots of goodies that DDs both enjoyed. DDs were so excited when they saw them in the stateroom when we arrived.
DDs used them on all the Islands and we ended up just leaving them for other people to enjoy.

Thx for the responses - I think my daugther would love the basket waiting for her upon arrival. So I will go that route.

Here's another 'newbie' question related to the gift baskets from The Perfect Gift (some really cool things on their site!). What kind of info do I need to provide them in order to deliver? How close to the sail date can I order? We do not have any info yet as to what room we are in (just booked last week for 26 Sept 04 Wonder)... Or could I just order now and provide them with the info once I get it?

I always purchase my kids sand toys at the $1 store. Then I don't feel guilty about tossing them at the end of the trip. I figure the room the sand toys took up on the way down would be extra room for souviners on the way back.

If you contact Shirley (she is WONDERFUL), by phone she is so great, she will help you with everything. She will also make special request. For instance, I asked to have water cameras in the baskets also...not problem.

Where do you find The Perfect Gift and this Shirley? I woud like to see her stuff.
