Have 2 years left of the Northeast winters. Started looking at Florida towns. We love the beach but love Disney too. I am a little familar with the Tampa area , but was wondering if anyone lives on the east coast of Florida, how far is it to Disney, and what is your favorite beach area. By looking at a map, I see the towns of Titusville and Daytona but don't know much about them. Don't have to worry about schools, just looking into a place close to the beach.

We usually go to Daytona when we go to WDW. It's not very far at all. But that I-4 traffic can be a bear. ;)

Thanks for the info about Daytona. After reading your post, I did a mapquest from Daytona to Orlando, it says its 55 miles and 58 minutes, but I guess thats if there is no traffic, which I'm sure there always is!

Daytona (I-4 to Disney) and Melbourne/Cocoa Beach (Beachline to Disney) areas are the closest beach towns that are worth it. Titusville is the 'Gateway to Nowhere'. It's growing though, but right now there isn't much there. Daytona and Cocoa are both tourist-y and Melbourne is growing so fast the housing prices are insane. Come down and check it all out! :sunny:

My wife recommends Cocoa Beach rather Daytona. It's a much nicer beach. If you're going to drive as far as Daytona, you're better off going to the beach at Sebastian inlet. Nice sandy, sandy beach. And much prettier than Cocoa Beach. Nice hiking too. Cocoa Beach is completely flat, by comparison. Cocoa Beach is also more commercial, of course.

I've never liked Daytona and the driving on the beach thing. Yuk!
I like the Melbourne area.

I don't like Daytona or cocoa beach. I prefer new smyrna.

HOW close do you ned to be -
I would rather be farther south where it is always warmer -

My in-laws bought a place in Estero - Fort Myers...
it is great there and I think it was about a two hour drive to the world, and they have their own airport within 20 minutes so if you were to fly into orlando - it is easy to fly out of fort myers...

There really wasn't that much to New Smyrna back 15 years ago... at least as compared to Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, Sebastian Beach, etc. Has that changed?

My in laws are in Ft Myers too, that is one reason why i wouldn't want to move there!! only kidding! My girlfriend said we would love Lauderdale by the Sea, she says its really nice, but very expensive, but we really need to just drive along the coast and check it out.
