We are headed to the ocean for a week on the beach soaking up all those golden rays and im in need of some good, light hearted reads. Preferably in paperback so I can stuff it in my beach tote!

Thanks so much for sharing and suggesting!

Anything by Nora ROberts, but I especially love the trilogy about the witch sisters.

I usually pull out Tom Clancy or some other really long books like that when I have a lot of reading time available.

I second anything by Nora Roberts. I adore her books. I also suggest Mary Higgins Clark, Kay Hooper, LuAnn Rice, Tami Hoag... probably lots more. I'll get back to you. :)

Sophie Kinsella's Undomestic Goddess is out in paperback now. I really enjoyed this book a lot.

The Harry Potter books are really good, and I like that I can discuss them with my boys as they read them. Truly though, I would enjoy them even if I didn't have little boys that wanted to talk about them.

I'm a biography person, so I took Jimmy Buffett's book, I think it's called A Pirate Looks at 50?, to the beach once and loved it.

Also, Michael J. Fox's autobiography is funny and heartwarming, not depressing at all.

I agree. I'm not a Nora Roberts fan (I don't dislike her either) but my cousin said that I *must* read that trilogy. I did and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd

The Summer I Dared by Barbara Delinsky

Her Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. :sunny:

Okay, I just read the OP again-that's not a lighthearted book. Forget my suggestion-go with Luann Rice-I love her books!

I was going to suggest this too! However, I thought it might depress the OP on her vacation.

Try Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin - I read it in one sitting and it had me laughing and crying at the same time!! :thumbsup2

Loved that book so much I went out and got "Something Blue" - great also!

I just finished two really good lighthearted books.
One is biography, A girl named Zippy, by Haven Kimmel. Excellent book to read.
Also a fiction book, Pushing Thirty by Whitney Gaskell. Both were really light hearted books and fun to read

The Summerhouse by Jude Deveraux. Has to rank as one of my favorite "lite" reads. Most of Deveraux's newer books are good. Some of her older romances irritated me...the lady and her man would fight, man kisses lady, lady forgets she is mad. I don't know about you, but kissing does NOT make me forget I am mad ;)

I agree with everyone who said Nora Roberts. I love her books. Especially the books about the MacGregor family. I love those!

Also, romances by Julie Garwood make nice beach reading.

I love ALL Of Jodi's books, but you're right, she's not "light" reading.

I love "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency" series by Alexander McCall Smith - great books, easy to read, a wonderful picture of Botswana, fun and engaging.

I also love P.G. Wodehouse - especially the Jeeves and Wooster stories. These are 1920's England. They sound best when read outloud by someone with a British accent ;), but I enjoy reading them without that, too.

Other light summer reading I've enjoyed:
"The Secret Life of Bees"
Anything by Jane Austen

bother...I can't remember the title of the series or who wrote it, but it's the series with Father Tim and he retires and marries Cynthia who was his neighbor and she's a children's book author/illustrator with a cat... anyone know what I'm talking about? I really enjoyed this series, but I don't own any of them - I borrowed them from a friend. Great summer reading, but I just can't remember the name!!
