Beach Shuttle HH?

Anyone know how late the beach shuttle runs at HH? I thought I read somewhere someone said 4pm, but that seemed a little early, especially for the end of June into July.

We thought about renting bikes and using those to get to the beach, but when we started thinking about all we need to bring--towels, chairs, boogie boards, cooler (soft), sunscreen, toys, etc. and throw a 3 yr old in there somewhere, it just didn't seem reasonable.

So trying to figure out if we need to get up early to drive the cars (2 families, 2 cars) over for the day or if we can rely on the shuttle.
:cool2:
Thanks!

I drive to the beach house, but I do think that if you are there after 4 you just call on the resort phone and they will pick you up.

If you are stranded, I am sure a fellow DIS'er will drop off family and come back and get you. I might ask to see a resort ID to be safe, but I would never mind something giving a ride like that. I know what it is like to not want to leave the beach early.

I believe that's right... It suprised me last August when the last run was at 4:00pm, but I seem to remember the above mentioned option to use the phone in the beach house to call the resort...

The shuttle does stop it's runs at 4pm. However, there is also a free shuttle provided by the Palmetto Dunes merchant's association that runs later. You can call for the "Dunes Buggy" from the Beach House after 4pm - the number has been posted next to the Beach House phone. This service runs during the summer months - I'm not certain about other times of the year.

There is a secondary after-hours shuttle service that goes to multiple HHI resorts that you can use when you stay at HHI. If you call the resort, they'll dispatch the outside shuttle to pick you up at no charge.

Thanks--that's very good to know! Now that I know we won't be stranded. ;)

We drive our own car over because it's just easier. Our rooms have never been near the front of the resort so we would have to walk all the way to the shuttle stop with all our stuff. Easier to pack the car near our room and head over. Also, if you can get a space in the underground parking (under the beach house), your car stays nice and cool for when it's time to head back.

Very good to know...thanks! Could we have DH pack the car for the beach, head over there and park and then take the shuttle back to get us? That way we can use the shuttle back and forth during the day, but will have the car there for when we come home.

We have never taken the shuttle to the Beach House. We have always driven over.

You really don't want to be going 'back and forth' during the day. Gathering your stuff, putting it into the car, then catching the shuttle, traveling back to the resort, and walking to your villa, can all take more time than you'd first think. Then repeat it to get back to the beach house.

The beach house has food, pool, and the beach all there. Probably no need to come back to the villa, unless maybe one time to fix a lunch, maybe a nap for the kids.

Why not just use the car only. Pack it, and when you're all ready, drive over. No reason for DH to drive over, and then take the shuttle back to get you.

We have used the shuttle - usually the times when we have walked to the BeachHouse, we'll take the shuttle back to the resort - but usually we drive down there.

I'd agree with Bill's analysis about packing/unpacking beach supplies. We just load up the car and stay down there as long as we want then come back to the resort. We bought a beach gazebo that goes up in about 2 minutes but provides shade for little ones when needed and then pack up beach toys, towels and snacks for the day.

The snack bar is very convenient and Surfman's Station is air-conditioned and an easy spot to escape if someone needs a break from the humidity during the day.
