Beach quality at Vero Beach

We're considering buying at Vero without having been there. Can anyone tell me what the sand and water quality are like and how large the beach is off the resort? Thanks!

The hurricanes and then the reconstruction of the beach changed the beach dramatically. It's a gentler slope to the water. But, that can change too!

If a nice wide beach is important to you, buy at Hilton Head. The beach there is great! The beach at Vero is disappointing, but typical for that section of the Florida coast. It's better since the hurricanes, but not nearly as nice as Hilton Head or some other areas of Florida.

The resort is beautiful, but if the beach is your number one concern, you're probably better off somewhere else.

I've got a lovely cottage on a lake -- would you consider buying that sight un-seen? It has a beach, and water.





Errr...how many other things would you/do you seriously buy without any exposure/experience?? You may well love VB ( I do ! ) but I would NEVER recommend ( or do myself ) investing thousands of dollars into something I have NO personal experience with!

I own Pepsi stock...but that's because I know pepsi and like it!

We love the Vero resort, and visit often. It may be the nicest resort in all of DVC; That is, if you are just talking about the structure.

That said, if you are most concerned about the actual beach, this resort may not be for you. It's not wide, the sand is not great, and the water can be rough.
As mentioned by wdw1972, you may be better off looking at a different part of Florida.

We are interested in buying a small contract to add to our existing BWV points and thought VB would be a nice place to relax but we'd likely use the points at other resorts as well. My DH asked about the beach so I thought it would be nice to have some info. Sounds like we may spend more time at the pool than the beach. Thanks for all of your comments...or at least most of them

You can say THAT again! When we were there last June, the waves LITERALLY pulled my top off. Before that, twice, the waves pulled down my bottoms. Luckily, I was able to get them up before anyone noticed, getting my top back on was a challenge.

Yes, the waves kicked my butt!

Vero Beach is an ideal beach for people that like to play in the ocean. Typically, it has waves good enough for real boogy or surf boarding. The beach itself is smaller (from dune to water's edge) than most, but then people don't typically set up camp in front of each other like they do at other beaches. You'll never feel crowded on Vero Beach.

My DW doesn't like waves (actually it's a shark thing), but she loves sitting on the beach, in the sun, sipping a Bloody Mary, and reading romance novels. She only needs about 10 x 10 area to claim as hers... so being on a huge beach means nothing but further for her to walk.

The sand is east coast sand... Light brown and relatively course. It will get hot on your feet in July/August. VB does not have much in the way of shells... easy on the feet, but not much treasure hunting (except after storms).

If you don't like the waves then you should consider HHI, except that the resort is 1.5 miles from the beach instead of sitting on it. HHI does have better shelling. Don't get me wrong... we love HHI, but we don't go there (primarily) for the beach.

If you want that pure white powdery sand you have to go to the Gulf coast. I really wish DVC would do something in Sanibel.

Just kidding... I DO make sure my suit strings are always tied tight though. I've had a couple of close calls. I love waves.

This will sound odd, but we would rather stay at the Beach Club Beach than Vero (like at spring break for example). I know you cant really compare to an ocean but Vero was disappointing compared to Clearwater for example. Brown sand instead of white sugar and the water looks more like the carribean on the gulf side, also the depth of the beach at Clearwater is at least 20 times longer than Vero. There also is a hedge blocking the view at Vero which is dreadfull. And maybe worst of all-there is no sunset on the ocean.

We did exactly what you're considering after our family visited Vero once and LOVED it. A tiny (50 point) add-on contract gives us exactly what we want--2 nights in a 2 bedroom each October. We can also occasionally use the points at the WDW DVC properties if we want. I suggest you spend a couple nights at Vero before you make your decision.

I think DisDaydreamer said it best about the beach. IMHO having even a small beach is great when I have to walk what 30 steps from the resort to the beach. Also I think in all the times I have been there the crowds were at most 50/60 people over a 1/2 mile span. Boy was it crowded on thoses days! ...

Also the hedge vlocking the views is gone..... the 2 hurricanes took care of that but it is growing back quickly.

We love VB. We go over Spring Break and the beach is not crowded. The water is good for boogy boards. The beach has alot of shells on it. I like to walk on the beach not swim in it. I am a pool person. I love the resort itself. Very relaxing atmosphere. Good luck with your decision.

I guess for us, if VB Resort (obviously not called VB) was on the gulf side-we would be all over it.
