I hope that someone can give me some ideas. We are travelling to Orlando for three weeks in August and looking for a beach start to our holiday.
We have stayed at anna maria island before and really loved it. We'd like something similar really quiet, no high rises, natural beaches a bit like northumberland but hot!
We thought about sanibel island but they seem to be having a really bad time with Red tide(algae thing sounds v yucky)
If anyone can suggest somewhere similar at a similar distance to Orlando wed be really grateful Ive tried surfing around :surfweb: but only seem to find "national park "type beaches and you dont seem to be able to stay on them. Thanks

It depends on how far you want to travel, the East coast beaches of Cocoa and Daytona are much closer than the one's on the West.
However, these are much nicer especially Clearwater and St.Petes, whether they are quiet enough for you I am not sure.
Plus they are a 2 hour or so drive from Orlando.

Sanibel/Captiva are generally quieter.

We stayed at Disney's Vero beach last August and loved it.

A really quiet, clean beach, and all the expected class of a Disney hotel.

We'll certainly go there again on our next visit.

We are renting a condo at Indian Rocks on the west coast (inbetween Clearwater & St Petes)Never been before but the beaches look gorgeous...white sands.... We are going to try out captain Memos Pirate ship cruise www.captmemo.com and Pier 60 to watch the sun go down...and hopefully see some wild dolphins
