Just called and switched our three ocean view Inn rooms to a Beach Cottage for 2 nights in April, I have been checking them out and they look fantastic. If anyone has stayed in one could you let us know what to expect, from the looks of it online I don't think that we will be disappointed. The following is a link that I found, I thought I would share it with everyone if you are interested.

It looks as if could be quite a party at Vero!!!

It really is beautiful. The living area/kitchen is upstairs for a better view from the balcony. When we stayed there a couple of years ago, we still had to stand up to see the ocean over the foliage, but that may have changed due to the hurricanes. We were in the next to the last BC on the south, and it did have one unusual thing.... The master bath whirlpool tub did not have a step to get in. It was just like they forgot it, and you had to "climb" into the tub. I know at all the other DVC resorts and in the 1-2 bedroom units at Vero Beach, I had always had a step from the floor to get into the tub. Don't know what was up with that. All in all, the BC are great - very spacious. Also loved the balconies/porches on both sides of the building. Enjoy your stay!!

The Beach Cottages are fantastic - huge kitchen/family room combo on 2nd floor - one caveat is that there is not enough seating for 12 at the dining room table or in terms of couches (not sure if you are 12 but that is the occupancy limit so thought I would mention that)

You have a balcony out front on the Inn side and one overlooking the Ocean side (beautiful view!) - on the main floor are three bedrooms and bathrooms

We loved staying there and would stay again if we did not keep using our points so darned fast

cheers

I'm jealous! :earboy2: We toured one a few years back and have since dreamed of booking one. one day!!! Have a great time they are certainly beautiful!

We stayed in the Beach Cottage approximately 5 years ago. This was everything we expected! The views were fabulous, and we loved having the living areas upstairs so we could enjoy the views while dining, etc.

A side note..Jane Pauley and her hubbie Gary Trudeau are known to have vacationed in the Beach Cottages several times in years past!

We have stayed in the VB beach cottages about seven times. Needless to say after the first time we got spoiled and keep returning every year or two. One thing that we would change to the BC is to put a half bathroom on the main living level. There are 3 bathrooms downstairs but none on the level with the living room, dining room and kitchen. The main building at the resort has the same problem. If you've ever spent much time at the Green Cabin Lounge you'll know what I mean. Have a great trip, you'll love listening to the ocean in the evening from the balcony.

Thanks you everyone for the replies, Sratay are you serious about the Green Cabin lounge? We had planned on spending a little bit of time (O.K. quite a liitle bit of time) up there until we decided to get the Beach Cottage, it seems like that would be a pain to have to go down the stairs everytime nature called.

We have 6 adults and 6 kids going on the trip so I don't think it will be to crowded and as far as the dining room goes, I don't think we have a chance to get anyone to do any cooking while on vacation. After all I am married to a queen, and unless they have a grill right outside on the deck I am pretty useless.

If anyone is down there at that time we will probably be having nightly cocktail hours so be sure to look us up.

Yep, its downstairs, but don't let that stop you. It's a minor inconvenience.

The cottage sounds great!!! I think I would love to book for 2-3 nights next time we go to Disney (those VB points sure would help :) !!!!

Any particular unit to ask for? Not sure if the hurricanes changed anything in terms of view or whatsoever.

We look forward to trying a beach cottage someday.

Dr Bond007,

I just wanted to say if by chance you are down there the first week of April let me know and we can take a tour and have a cocktail celebrating the election process and how great it really is.

Thank you for the kind offer. We are planning a WDW trip in July, so we won't have that opportunity. But your offer is very kind.

Sorry it has been so long since I replied, I haven't been on the boards in quite a while. Next time we book a Beach Cottage I will let you know, the offer will always be open.

I'm going to skip on the Beach Cottages, and zone in on the cocktails. My family goes to WDW every August, (yeah I know, what are we crazy? No, I am a teacher, my daughter is a teacher, and the other daughter is in college. It's 3 against hubby with flexible vacation schedules) Anyway, as some of you may be aware, usually every afternoon in the summer comes the afternoon rain shower. Or as we have affectionately come to call them, "happy hour". We have snacks and drinks out on the balcony, play some cards or some other family game that of course you never do at home. These times have actually become some of the best loved times of our vacations!! And that goes even for the guests we invite along!! So long live happy hours!!

Mrsswat,

It is true that when on vacation Happy hour is a mainstay of my diet, I have to tell you that I am so looking forward to being able to sit on the front deck of the Cottage and enjoy a M drink (Manhattan, Martini, Margarita, Mixed drink, Moonshine) or whatever we have handy.

The year we stayed in our friend's beach cottage, Jane Pauley was in an Inn Room with her daughter. I guess she didn't know about the DIS and day by day reserving 11 months out. :smooth:

We had 4 adults and 6 kids (3 teens, 3 young grade schoolers) and had plenty of room. We didn't need to use the pull-out sofa, but that is an option for you if needed.

Anyway, if you are lacking chairs for the dining table when you check in, a quick call to housekeeping will take care of that. Have fun! My friend wants to pool points next year and reserve it again. However, I am already living on borrowed points so most likely she would reserve it. Now, just to coordinate when since we live in different states and have kids going to 5 different schools (and 5 different breaks).

We'll be checking out on 3/31 so can we take a raincheck on that cocktail party?? :drinking1

Can anyone tell me how many chairs are on the balcony, it doesn't look like a lot. Would we be able to get more chairs from housekeeping?

Thanks

Tom pirate:

If I remember correctly, there were two chairs with a very small table and a chaise on the ocean side and two or three chairs with a small table on the entry side. I would assume housekeeping could bring more. They were the lightweight plastic kind. HTH

Thanks for all your help, if we are going to have happy hour than we might need to request a few more chairs. Another question for all of the Vero Experts, do you sleep with the sliders open so that you may hear the ocean, or is it to far away to hear?

Thanks
