I am going to bank all my points and then make a ressie at the 11 month mark for OKW, my home resort. But then at 7 months try for Beach Club. I will be using banked points. If I get BC do they then cancel the reservation at OKW, then book at BC using my same banked points.

I just want to make sure they don't go into holding or I loose them.

Actually, the process, when you call to make the change, would be to cancel OKW first and then book BCV. Nothing goes into holding. They will, after canceling OKW, use banked points first when reserving BCV. Whether you will be able to get BCV depends on time of year and you don't mention the time of year wanted.

We want to arrive May 1-May 7 of 2014 with my use year being April. I also wondered if our friends cancel before 31 days or sooner, and we rebook someplace for a studio, what happens to the extra points?

If you cancel the reservation at least 31 days prior to the check in date and make a reservation that uses less points than the cancelled one, the points go back into your account without penalty with the same status they had just before the reservation was made. If the points were banked, they remain in banked status and if the points used were borrowed, they remain in borrowed status. Banked and borrowed points would expire at the end of the use year if not use before then.

If you are not past your banking deadline, you may bank the returned current use year points. If not banked or used before the end of your use year, the points expire.

If you cancel 30 days or less prior to check in, the extra points go back into your account, but in holding status. Those points cannot be banked and will expire at the end of your use year. They can be used to make a reservation that is no more than 60 days away from the date you make the reservation.

Agree with CarolMN and just add: you don't really want someone canceling just before 31 days out and then trying for a studio elsewhere simply because there may be nothing left anywhere that close to an arrival date. Decisions on changing should be made much further out. Note, as far as early May goes, you will find most things available at 7 months out except possibly for some usual suspects (AKV concierge and value, BWV standard and boardwalk view, and BLT standard view).
