Beach Club Villas

This is the first time I heard that BC has a history of poor performance at the front desk. I have heard of isolated instances there and elsewhere where service did not meet expecations, but no outright consistent pattern.

There had been a problem at the Poly some years ago that the team at the Poly corrected. The problem surfaced in their guest feedback analysis and they addressed it.

If there was a consistent problem at BC it would show up in guest feedback and it would be addressed there as well.

Sorry for not returning sooner to read all of your responses and now that I have read them I'll say that, YES we are blessed to be a part of DVC and that we too own so that we are forced to go on vacation and that no it didn't ruin my vacation and that I will be looking forward to my next trip to BCV but I won't have high expectations.

We arrived at BCV at 11:30 and was told that our room was not ready and that was fine with us we wanted to go to DQ to play anyway. We returned at 2:45ish, so we decided to swim. At 4:00 (they time they originally told us that our room would be ready) we returned to find out that it was not ready and they could not give us a time that it would be. By now I'm thinking, when we checked-in in March at 9:30 a.m. our room was ready. HMMMM. There was also the issue that NONE of our requests were going to be honored granted, 4th floor, pool view. We know that they are not guaranteed.

I finally did get ahold of a manager and I don't complain well. He and the person I was talking to a the front desk did disappear. They had originally put us on the 4th floor of a garden view. If we have a view of the pool/EPCOT we tend to spend more time on the patio. Anyway, happened to find us a 2 bdr on 3rd floor pool facing, but not much of a view since the gator's gone. It was a lovely room and access to the stairs was awesome.

AT ANY RATE, my original post was not an attempt to discuss the issue of why we were not satisfied at check-in but that they have space for a separate check-in and that I would like to see a few staff members especially for checking in DVC guests. I understand the whole cost issue. I was told by a cast member that powers that be check these sites occasionally and that I should post. Maybe the cast members at check-in at BC/BCV would be happier if they weren't trying to check in the MASS amounts of guess that they do; because they had more help.

Now, I'll go try to figure out why I was not notified that all you had responded to my original post.

Thanks for clarifying what happened at BCV, but I really don't understand how you came to conclude that you were treated less favorably than the BC guests would have been? I hope you didn't draw that conclusion based on your room not being ready right at 4. That gives you a right to complain, but I wouldn't jump to conclusions because of it.

I think many people seem really overly sensitive to whether they are being treated as "second class citizens." Why worry about that?? (assuming, of course, that you are not treated outright rudly).

I second the poster who said that they don't like "welcome home." Its not that I hate hearing it, but I think it is kind of hokey. I wish DVC was my "home," but it isn't! Anyway, I certainly don't measure the sucess of my DVC stay by whether some random CM at check in tells me "welcome home."

I always have my wife prominently display her finest jewelry, we're sure to wear our designer clothing, and announce loudly that we need luggage assistance at our Jaguar.

Oh, Lovey, dear, will you bring the suitcase with our stacks of hundred dollar bills in it please?

And don't get any finger prints on the Rolls Royce...

hahaha

Sherri :)

If you read these boards with any regularity, you'll see who loves DVC and those who love to gripe. We've been very fortunate so far to meet some nice people and CMs on each of our trips. I hope our luck continues. I feel pretty good that we'll never see an unhappy camper at BCV ;)

...it was such a relief to hear that from someone else...maybe that should be a separate thread. I too think it sounds...well, phoney and sort of weird...as much as I love DVC it is not my home...and whether you welcome me or not, I'm there and enjoyin' it...
When DH first heard the desk person say it too me at Vero he just kept saying "what did they mean "Welcome Home", "What does that mean?"...I just told him it was a DVC custom...I know it is meaningful and important to some and I can appreciate that but I for one can live without it.

I'm not sure I understand how the above addresses the comments:

But, thanks for attempting to clarify. I'm fine with the common check in, it makes sense to me. I just gotta say, if I were a CM, I think I'd get real tired of checking in DVC members, when I continually read how extensive thier requests for exact rooms specifications are. There are only so many rooms on the top floors facing Epcot, everyone cannot have those same rooms. Seems to me that frequent DVC members get pretty demanding and specific about thier requests, and I'll bet if I were a CM, that would get old pretty fast, expecially compared to other BC guests who I doubt are as demanding about room locations. Just my observations. I doubt that makes us second class, just more of a pain in the rear.

I really prefer the check in activity off site from the BCV building and over at teh BC lobby, so that noise and activity doesn't impact the quietness and peacefulness of the BVCs. For me, one of the true treats of the BCVs is that it is a more quiet resort that is in such close proximity to so many activities. I haven't encountered crowds in the BCV lounge areas, and that's nice.

While I understand your point, I am not so sure that non-DVC guests who may also be regular Disney visitors are any less demanding about room requests. It seems that two or three requests (smoking/non-smoking, high/low, general view) are rare; most are quite specific -- even to individual rooms.

I agree with you, JimC. I also think that most DVC members are not so demanding and limit their requests to a general view and smoking/non-smoking, maybe non-handicapped. It's looks like most of the newer guests, with less experience, want to be able to give the front desk an exact location where they want to stay, never realizing that they have nothing to request if that room is occupied.

I agree.

If you read the resort BB, I don't think DVC members are anymore demanding about their room than anyone else. It may be harsh to say but if your tired of hearing people request this room or request that view, maybe your in the wrong business and should leave. Your in the hospitality business. I don't mean to suggest that anyone should be unreasonable or rude to a CM but I don't think there is anything wrong with trying to get the best room you can.;)

I think they are, and can be overly demanding, regardless of being in the hospitality business, people are people none the less. I think DVC members can be a pain in the rear with thier excessive demands, especially concerning room choices, everyone else but me of course, my demands are important and perfectly legitimate.
I think Cris made the point in another thread along these lines when she said:

I get so sick of DVC members think they are entitled to everything because they paid 15,000 dollars. Well all I expect is a couple weeks at Disney in a clean spacious villa. This comment has nothing to do with pool hopping, but some of the members I have seen making fools out of themselves screaming at CM over them being DVC members and they should get this, that, and the other or they are selling their membership.

ok done with my rant now....
But, I'm not here to defend poor service by CMs, I don't mean to come across that way, just offering a substitute theory to replace the "second class citizen" one. I've never really experienced service deficits at BCV, any more than at other DVC resorts. And I fully support asking for a manager when problems arise.

Thirdly, I have always been treated exceptionally well by the staff at the BC and the BCV's. We first stayed there just 3 weeks after it opened in 1990 and have loved it ever since.

I thought the BCVs opened more recently (In fact, I thought they were the newest DVC [prior to SSR] to open.)? But I'm still a newbie, so maybe I'm completely discombobulated? Can someone provide me with a little history? DH and I are looking to do an add-on, and we'd been considering BCV because of the newness of it (well, and because of its location and SAB, too). Have we been barking up the wrong tree, maybe?

The BC and YC were opened November 5th, 1990. BCV was opened in July 1st, 2002.
