We are making our first trip ever to WDW from the West Coast in January and we were thinking about the Beach or the Yacht Club mostly becuase of Storm-a-long Bay. Have 1 DS, he will turn 12 on the trip. Any ideas on which one we should stay at? Rooms to request at either or to stay away from? Strategies? We will be there 4.5 days. Or do you think planning around the pool in January is silly?

If we can't swing the extra money, which of the Moderate Resorts would be better for a 12 year old (not to forget the 2 Disney crazed adults tagging along!)

Thanks for all your help. I've really gotten alot out of the Boards since I started reading.

At the top of the page there is a thread about resort FAQs. Go there and you'll see an extensive thread put together by Joe Cool about Y&B Club. There is a difference in decor. Other than that, the biggest differences to me are that Beach Club is closer to Epcot and that all rooms at Yacht Club have either a patio or a full balcony. Some at the Beach Club have a miniscule balcony. Some people think that the Yacht Club has a more formal feel to it but I personally don't think so.

One thing you might want to take into consideration with your decision. They are just finishing up on a rehab of YC, but the rehab for BC is just starting. I would think YC might be your better choice at this point.

DW and I stayed at YC on our honeymoon and just loved it.

Mama Mia... Welcome to the boards!

We've stayed in both the YC + the BC. We prefer the YC, due to the decor and the room size. Perhaps they aren't bigger, but they seem to be. We also like to be close to Stormalong bay, the WONDERFUL pool.

A favorite moderate for me is Dixie landings (old name) now Port Orleans Riverside. We loved the food court, the pool and the Sassagoula boat which runs between Downtown Disney and the Resort. We also liked Boatwrights, their resaturant.

Hope you get the place you want!

Hi Mamma Mia, As you already know, you might not be warm enough to swim in January. It's hard to say, but my bet would be not. Especially since you are warm blooded coming from California. YB&C does have a great location, walk to epcot, boat ride to MGM. You also might want to consider the Contemporary. The Garden Wing rooms have reasonable rates at times. The rooms are the largest on property I believe. You can't beat the atmosphere of the monorail running through it. A 10 min. walk to MK can't be beat. Have fun planning. We've stayed at PORS and FQ and liked them both. Now that I've done a deluxe we'll pay for the convenience of location. We just loved staying at the Contemp. last Sept. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the resorts though. It's just that with a shorter stay it might be nice to not rely on bus transportation as much.
