Beach Club Disappointing Vacation

We just got back yesterday from the Beach Club. We were there from the 9th thru the 16th. I have to say that the housekeeping services were the worst. Examples: dust so thick in places you could write in it (we did hoping they would take the hint), tv screen with little food covered hand prints all over the bottom, one day the beds weren't even finished being made, trash cans that were full were not emptied, days that clean towels weren't left,(we weren't out but the dirty ones weren't replenished), after six days we had to leave a note to ask them to wash the mirrors ( tooth brushing and flossing on the side mirror, you get the picture) A partial cracker? on the floor under the towel rack. It was there when we arrived it was there when we left. I bet it's still sitting there. Yes, we could have picked it up but we wanted to see how long it would take them. I don't think that they vacuumed at all while we were there. Just venting. :sad2: For the money you pay to stay at the BC it was very disappointing. We had other problems but this is to long already.

I hope you were able to bring it to the attention of management to get the problem corrected. I could never understand issues like that if there is a housekeeper and supervisory staff to double check room cleanliness. I have never heard that about the Beach Club, ever.....

Did you mention these problems to management? You should not have tolerated this.

I think I would have gone right back to the front desk. I agree, you paid too much money to have a dirty room, however, if noone complains, noone from management would ever know. I also think, that no matter what you paid for the room, it should still be clean. I hope you still had fun.

Did you let housekeeping know? There's no way the head of housekeeping can know who isn't doing their job well without reports- they have so many rooms to keep track of.

Sounds very icky! That's not acceptable anywhere, in my book!

You didn't mention if you called housekeeping or the manager. I feel very strongly this has to be done when you check in and inspect the suite. I keep calling until something gets done. I have been very lucky, I have only had to call once in many trips to Disney.

Although staying on points @ BCV, we had a horrendous experience and unexcusable response to a pest issue.

Finally, had to plant myself in the lobby the next day to speak to management to get problem resolved.

Never acceptable to be told that management is "unavailable", even voice mail messages went unanswered for over 24 hours...

shame, such a beautiful property.

I did complain via email to Guest Services & got a phone call from the Executive Offices who were aware of my incident and apologized profusely, indicated it was unacceptable, and would be rectified immediately.

I also agree, you should have told the mgr. about this as soon as it was seen that the cleaning wasn't done right. Why wait 6 days to ask to wash the mirror with prints on it? That should have been done the first day.. Was it just to see how long it took to have cleaned so you could come back and then complain? I am sorry, i don't mean to pick on you, but i just don't understand, why let the room cleanliness suffer for a week while you are on a very expensive vacation?? It is probably something that could have been cleared up asap if the right person was immediately contacted.

just back from GF not BC but same concerns. one day we didn't even have maid service. it was the night that we went to mvmcp. we got back to room almost midnight and i had to call for towels. they asked why i had the privacy sign up if i was not in room. we did not have the sign out. i was really disappointed at the GF.

No, I didn't wait six days to have the mirror cleaned so I could come back home and have something to complain about later. Life is to short. The issue is I can put up with a lot before I say something. I left notes for the girl and hoped for the best. As I mentioned in the first post we had other problems. We were locked out of the room four times. They kept sending maintenance up and we waited each time for all that to be fixed. Management was really good about that and credited our account $150.00 for the inconvenience. So my concern was that they would be thinking that we were just looking for more off the account. Plus MORE important to me was that I had wasted enough time on things other than vacation. Was I wrong? Sure. Live and learn. It was our first vacation in two years from taking care of parents with Ahlzheimers and Parkinson's. I just wanted to hit the parks and not deal with problems. So coming back home to get a chance to complain about a mirror isn't exactly the highlight of my life. As I said I was just venting.

Being new to the DIS Forum I have spent the last few weeks reading thousands of posts. Do I detect a trend? Is the lack of service, decorations, magic at WDW getting worse or am I making a mountain out of a mouse hill?

I was just wondering...... since it seemed you said many of these "issues" were left for days and never taken care of.. I was just wondering why you didn't say something to someone the first time the room was not cleaned properly. As life is too short -- so is vacation-- to have to stay in an unclean room, right?? About leaving notes, most of the mousekeeping doesn't speak english very well, from what i have noticed, so i am wondering if they know how to read english well? It is easy to read the word "TIP" on an envelope.. but harder mabye to decipher a note..
Not sticking up for housekeeping, but maybe there was some sort of language barrier.. not that it excuses leaving an unkept room for you... but, again, i am sticking with you should have let them know right away... that's all.
And you didn't mention --- did you EVER mention it to anyone?? Or did you just come home and leave the situation there? If you didn't tell someone, chances are the problem will be that much further away from being fixed..

As someone who has just come back last month - and gone for 3 yrs straight, i didn't notice any decline in any above mentioned.. I just think that over time, the DIS has grown - which is great.. but along with that comes lots more opinions.. and all of those will not be glowing ones. Thats all. For me, the magic, the decor and the service where all still as they were all along. :thumbsup2

I find the vast majority of DISers are very satisfied with their Disney experience. With a group this big talking about a place like WDW, you're going to get some negative experiences. Like many DISers, I've been to WDW many times & never had any major issues.

It sounds like housekeeping problems are more widespread than an occasional
service failure. We had problems several years ago during the housekeepers strike.

I complained loud and long...

And I will again the minute I check in if things are not up to WDW standards.

I must respectfully agree with other posts- I would have been in person and quite explicit at the front desk to rectify the situation.

That, or call the Orlando Sentinel... They LOVE dirt on WDW.

Disney has serious shortages in housekeeping staff at this time and no where locally to hire them from. I don't expect it to get any better. Orlando has basically out built the available manpower.

OT- But when we were in WDW last mo. , the WDW bus driver told us they had over 130 immediate openings for bus drivers!!! I can only imagine what is open for mousekeeping!

We had an issue a couple years ago at the BC. We checked in only to find a huge bag of garbage left by mousekeeping in the middle of the floor. We did report it and it was removed immediately.

The language issue is a big problem in many hotels in Florida. Some of them actually have programs to teach the employees English to help with the problem. We have stayed in hotels in Orlando where we had to draw a picture and an arrow and tape it up where we wanted something done, because we had tried talking to the housekeeper and they couldn't understand us. It's a touchy subject, but I think anyone who works in a service industry should be able to speak the language of the person they are serving, or have a translator available who can.

Right - and this is where the management can help and step in, to be the communication b/w you and the mousekeeping, if there is a language problem.

This post won't solve the OP's problems during vacation but it will help anyone else who reads this.....If you have a problem with housekeeping while at WDW, go to the telephone in the room and hit the housekeeping key. A CM, who speaks English, will pick up and PLEASE, tell them your concerns and demand it be taken care of immediately. It doesn't matter what time of the day or night it is, there is always someone there and always a housekeeper availiable to come to your room and rectify matters.

Going to the front desk doesn't facilitate a problem because you have just gotten one more overworked CM involved in your issue and there is no guarantee that the front desk will call housekeeping. Call housekeeping directly, it's very simple.
