Be wary of pick pockets at DLRP

I think I remember you saying this when someone had their children's toys stolen from their stroller when they were on a ride. You are absolutely right - it is very rich pickings and we have all done silly things - I left my camera in the baby's changing bag while I did rides last time. Needless to say I won't be that dumb this time.:rotfl: I often wonder about tourists who have backpacks on with the little pocket on the back. This must be the worst place to keep valuables, even though it is convenient. I have stopped a man whose wallet was poking out of his back jeans pocket. He said thanks and just pushed it back in to the same pocket.:confused3

What does Disney do about this problem? Do they have 'pickpockets operate in this area' signs? Kinda ruins the magic, doesn't it?

Disney can't really do much, it is a worldwide problem in that it happens anywhere.

Sorry to hear it has happened to someone on here but its a good thing to know about the translation service.

I realise it happens everywhere:) , I just wondered what measures they took to reduce the incidences of it happening - warning signs, cctv, surveillance?:confused3

There maybe undercover people in the parks, no one really knows:confused3

Oh no, how horrendous. My only trip to Paris (many years ago) prior to our Disneyland trip involved a pickpocketing incicent. So I was a little paranoid about pickpocketing, particularly as I knew that I do let my guard down when travelling. We all had pacsafe bags http://www.pacsafe.com . We got ours in Australia but you can get them in the UK. It did give a little extra piece of mind with the latch that clips the bag up. Even my DS had one that he kept his own camera and autograph book in (he didn't want anyone to steal that autograph book :lmao: )

So sorry to hear about your drama, I hope it didn't completely ruin your trip. :goodvibes

As one who's traveling in March, I appreciate this as a reminder to be vigilant. I'm SOOO sorry for those of you who've had your bags / valuables taken!

I have always been quite impressed with security in the parks (I suppose they can't prevent everything!)

During our trip in oct 07 a little girl got lost in the park. I found her and she spoke only french. With the little bit of french i speak i managed to calm her down and found a CM to help. Just after the CM took her to the lost child point her very worried father came running along in a panic. I explained where she was and ran with him to catch up with the CM.

We were obviously observed by security who wondered about us running full speed through the park. 2 security men in black suits with dark glasses and ear pieces appeared out of nowhere and stopped us. (It was very dramatic - a bit like Men in Black - I half expected them to erase our memory with those flashy pen things :rotfl2: ) I was quite impressed though at how quickly they responded!

Wow, im so sorry to hear that! im in shock:eek:
I no its silly of me, but i judt didnt expect to hear stories of pick pockets in DLP! i just think Disney magic and thats it!
even when i think back when ive been and how relaxed ive been with my bag etc, how lucky i was not to have had anything stolen.

i seen someone else said rooms have been robbed??! again shocked! i need to live in the real world more:lmao:

This is what the thieves are hoping for. The DLH in particular is a big target, but I know people who have been robbed from all the resorts including Marriott.

At WDW I know people who have been robbed in many WDW resorts. Same at DL.

Pick Pockets love the parades, shows and fireworks, and at DL, Fantasmic especially.

DLP has had a few armed robberies in the village too.

There have also been rapes and murders at Disney parks and resorts too.

Do not let your brain go on holiday when you are. Disney are good when it comes to security, some of the best. But their opponents are excellent too.

Armed robberies? omg! I will def be more aware when i go next.

Im usually quite good at being very aware of pick pockets. even in my own town. im constantly checking my bag, holding it close. Same when i go London i have a little bag under my coat.

I do feel silly now to think that all the times ive been there ive just never thought of that at all!.

Armed robbery in the village is a scary thought,, easy target I suppose like tourists because we all leave our sensible brain home when we go away everyone just needs to be vigilant and not have anything easily accessible to pick pockets, I always have an across body bag and out of habit rest my hand on it now

Our trip wasn't ruined but New Years Eve was marred by me thinking of all the things I would have to do the next day!!

Interestingly enough there was a queue at the police station of people who had had valuables stolen the previous day either in the parks or from their Hotel Rooms!

Luckily the rest of our funds and passports etc were in the hotel safe, I just feel such a idiot for putting my purse in my backpack and all they had to do was unzip and put their hand in for a feel around! I was too busy looking at the ride photos as I had done in the past!!

I am now VERY glad I purchased a new bag for my first trip to DLP. I got the CitySafe 100 from PacSafe (www.pacsafe.com). They have a ton of products all with various safety features.

Mine has the steel mesh in the bag, steel cables in strap, and has a metal clip where you clip the zipper pull to one of the straps. You can't even tell they have steel in them!

Where's the 'fingers in ears lalala I'm not listening smilie'? ;)
I'm going to pretend I haven't read this and carry on believing that DLP is a magical place where bad things don't happen :rotfl:

Before we had our first trip to DLPR I researched like crazy..Im a bit neurotic when taking the kids anywhere. I like to be prepared.
I had read alot of reports of pickpockets on Trip advisor and travel books so we bought a money belt.
My partner kept it under his clothes with his t-shirt tucked in under his jacket. He did say it was uncomfortable at times but worth it for keeping our money safe. Plus we were staying in a campsite an hour away so we had to carry our passports.
Im not suprised this happens alot, its the perfect place for pickpockets..relaxed holiday makers carrying cameras, video cameras, credit cards and cash galore but Im dismayed that theft from hotel rooms happens frequently. Do the hotels have cameras and security people patrolling to deter these lowlifes?
Also as another warning that I havnt seen mentioned on here.
When we got off the escalator and were near to the picnic area, a man stopped us. He had a clipboard and a official looking ID tag around his neck. He asked us if we could spare some money to donate to a charity for Kenya. He said we could give him 15E and sign our name on his clipboard plus our names and address.
We offered 5E (stupidly but really to get rid of him) but he said that wasnt enough!!! Alarms bells were thumping in my head by this time so we made our excuses and kept walking.
Thinking back we should have reported it but we just wanted to get into the parks for the 1st time.
Just think he could have had our donation, our details, and maybe worse our signatures :scared1: :scared1: He was very nice and chatty, its easy to see how people get conned with all the simple scams they have.
This happened in September 2006, dont know if its still going on?
