Everyone has bad days, frustrations, times they want to scream. But the thing to keep in mind is that someone, some where, is having a much harder day than you are.

My dad has been in the hospital since Monday, he wasn't able to breathe. The hospital got him stabilized and today he had to be transported to a hospital in St. Louis that is much more equipped for cardiac care. My mom and I followed the ambulance out of the parking lot and headed home so she could rest before we go up tomorrow (per my dad's orders). As we were driving onto the highway, a helicopter landed to transport someone to the city also. That person was in critical condition and the hospital staff wasn't sure if they were going to make it.

Mom and I looked at each other and said a silent "Thank God that's not dad". As hard as the past few days have been on the family and as hard as they will continue to be until he's home, we knew that some where there was a family suffering even more than ours.

So take a moment and hug your loved ones. Life is too short for the little things to drag the day down.

Thank you for posting this. Sometimes I think we all need a little reality check and a nudge to just simply be more thankful, more appreciative of what we have.

Your family and Dad are in my thoughts and prayers!

I hope your dad is well soon.
Thanks for the reminder. I hope lot's of people open this thread and read.....

Amen!

I hope your dad will be OK and that he will soon find himself home where he belongs.

I try to always be very aware that my bad day pales in comparison to others.

I can vent with the best of them, but yes, I do count my blessings. It is important to be grateful for what we do have.

Thank you - I needed this reminder today. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. thinking good thoughts for your dad.

So true.. No matter how bleak your life is, somewhere someone is much worse off than you are..

Hope your dad is back on his feet soon..

I agree with your attitude (sorry about your Dad tho, hope he gets well soon). I always try to "count my blessings" and even when I'm upset or mildly depressed I know someone somewhere is having a worse day than I am. If my health problems are on my mind, I think of others who have worse problems than I do. My MIL passed away several years ago after a courageous battle with ALS, and I always remember her, and what she had to deal with the last few years of her life. My problems pale in comparison.

Agree with you. Often do have to sit back and think about that. Good thoughts and prayers sent your way to you and your family.

Thank you for posting this. It's very good of you to think about others who are in a worse situation than you right now. I hope your dad is on the road to recovery and is home very soon!
Your comments hit close to home for me. Almost 2 months ago, my dad was transferred from a small hospital here in St. Louis to Barnes Hospital, also in St. Louis. He was in very bad shape and needed a procedure that could only be done in 2 hospitals in the midwest - Barnes and St. Louis University Hospital. He made it through the procedure, but was too weak and passed away 3 days later. :sad1: He was only 57.
Anyway, THANK YOU for taking a moment and thinking about those who may be having a worse day than you. It's very thoughtful and kind at a time when you yourself are having a tough time.
And just a word of encouragement...we really do have a couple of the best hospitals in the country/world here in St. Louis! Know that your dad is in VERY good hands! :grouphug:

You are so right. I hope your dad is doing well and makes a full recovery. I have been counting my blessings for the last week, even though it has been the hardest week of my life. My husband and I found out last Thursday that the child I was carrying had no heartbeat and stopped growing about 3 weeks ago. It was truly devastating, especially since there were no signs that the pregnancy was anything but normal and healthy. We opted to have a D & C because my body was not rejecting the pregnancy and I have a 2 yr old and needed to keep her best interest in mind. Having the procedure was awful. However, I was in the pre-op area with a woman, probably in her late 40's, who was awaiting a mastectomy. It was at that point that I realized things could always be worse. I am not terminally ill and I have the best husband in the world and a beautiful healthy daughter. We have faith that God will bless us again someday but for now we find comfort knowing we all have a special angel :)
