Be our guest

Well, that is you and Disney actually makes a point of being accommodating to people. There is no harm in calling and asking a question. Then you know if it is something they are okay with doing or not.
calling will only get you the call center unless you are calling a nonDisney place, I would not trust a phone answer

We had dinner at be our guest with 11 people. 4 of them were children ages 3-6. two of the children ate bread and some of the dessert. Some the most expensive bread at WDW. I think we ordered the mac & cheese? I really can't remember. I do remember gratuity was the biggest one we have paid to date at WDW. But, we usually don't have 11 people at dinner.

OP, even though the child won't eat what is on the menu, you will most likely have to pay for them. You may think about bring them something to eat though. I am sure they will have no problem with you bringing in nugget meal with you or have them eat beforehand. I am sure he will enjoy the dessert :)

Honestly, I think you should just consider it pixie dust if they accommodate you with an off-menu item rather than have the expectation that they do.
Although I think it is tacky for an adult to bring outside food in a restaurant, I think it's acceptable to do for young children. Know that since it is a fixed price meal, you will be charged for him whether he eats like a linebacker or eats nothing at all.

Yeah, sorry I can't agree with this. The menu is the menu. At some point, the onus is on the diner to pick a place that has food everyone will eat – or just not eat. I would never expect a business to bend over backward for me because of something I choose not to eat. Children are different, but the point stands.

Like any business, they can choose to accommodate, or choose not to accommodate, it doesn't hurt to (nicely) ask, right? I can go to a Chinese resturant and ask them to make a pizza for my kid; most likely they won't be able to do it and we move on, but in rare cases, they might make something special, perhaps a new "blend" that no one has ever thought of. Again, it doesn't hurt to (nicely and respectfully) ask. Just my opinion, of course.

Our waitress offered up French fries on Tuesday as an option for my daughter - so they are frying things - so there is hope for fried nuggets! They are so nice there!
They had French fries on the old quick service lunch menu. If they have fries in the kitchen, I wonder if this means they are going to bring back the quick service lunch. 🤔 I wish they would!

Personally I think there’s a difference between asking when you’re there versus calling in advance and requesting special food to be waiting on arrival (as one poster suggested). And I also agree with others that an adult purposely going to a restaurant where they don’t like the menu is different than taking a picky child (who probably doesn’t get a say in where they are eating). Just my 2 cents.

Look at it as an opportunity for him to broaden his culinary horizons, which all kids will do eventually. Being hungry and sitting at a table where everyone else is eating and enjoying their food is excellent encouragement to be a bit daring and try something new like the mac and cheese or the chicken breast. And if he still steadfastly refuses, just buy him a snack afterwards.

It's a restaurant. With a fixed menu. Adults should not be going to restaurants where they don't like the food (NOT an allergy, but a preference) and asking them to create a new dish out of nowhere. That is a 100% ABSURD request. This is not the Chopped kitchen.

And sure, you can ask, but again, I don't think service workers don't get paid enough to deal with that. It also puts people in a very bad spot because they're forced to weigh what's realistically feasible with "failing at customer service" and creating unhappy customers, bad reviews, etc.

Again, none of this applies to children. I have a lot of sympathy for families with children who are picky eaters. Just last night, I had to remove every bit of diced tomato out of my nephew's taco before he'd eat it – even after he said he'd be OK with it. And when I thought I'd gotten it all, he found one little microscopic piece. I get it. Kids are kids.

Geesh, that is not what I said. I said the restaurant may be happier to learn of the request in advance so that they could have different food available. I have never said that this should be demanded but simply asking a polite question in advance they may get something worked out. And the restaurant may appreciate knowing in advance to be able to accommodate.

And I disagree that adults can't ask for something different. There are people that are very picky that may ask to have something modified. I have a hard time eating a lot of places and ask if something can be modified. I ask nicely and realize they may not be able to and if they can't then I don't throw a fit and just make do or wait til I can eat somewhere else.

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions. I’m just so excited to be going back to Disney & especially getting a Be Our Guest reservation. I hope y’all have a magical day!😀😀
Yes, you will as it is definitely all about attitude but I wouldn't let these comments deter you from asking. Never hurts to ask and the worst they can say is no and you will be in the exact same place. Have a wonderful time! The atmosphere at BOG is really fun!

Perhaps they are too accommodating then, as purposely booking a restaurant you don't like the food at and asking them to make a completely new meal is flat-out taking advantage of people's perceived responsibility to always give the customer what they want. Again, children get a pass. Adults not so much.

This is clearly a fundamental difference between us in how we perceive service workers, who are always overworked and always underpaid and shouldn't have to deal with stuff like this from adults.
I have to book and pay for two children that don’t even eat for character meals....not because they are picky, but because they have g tubes. So, I pick restaurants that my kids won’t eat at all the time. ( and pay a ton of money) I don’t think anyone feels “entitled” or “special” but you never know what someone might find for a kiddo to eat in the kitchen. OP understands she has to pay, and is willing too, I think she just wondered if there were nugs or Mac and cheese. No harm done. They sound like they will handle it just fine no matter what is on the menu❤️

I’m sympathetic to the OP’s situation.

We can agree to disagree on the bolded part. Never in a million years would it cross my mind to call a restaurant in advance and request food that’s not on the menu.

Again I was responding specifically about the calling in advance and asking for special food part. I have no problem with asking a waiter if a picky child (or adult) can be accommodated with something they already have in the kitchen.

Same - I often have seating requests. I convey them in a manner that makes it clear that I understand that sometimes they can’t be met. No big deal.

Definitely ask. You don’t get what you don’t ask for. And I think some people have forgotten this, but Disney is in the business of making people happy. Every single waitperson I interacted with in my last visit was so lovely, and so accommodating (and I tipped them to reflect this amazing service). But why can’t we ask for stuff anymore when we are paying hundreds of dollars for a meal. It’s silly.

When I had a kid that picky, and I wanted Chinese, I called PF Changs and asked if they could make "plain" noodles (not on the menu), b/c that was one of 5 foods my kid would eat at age 2. They said no problem, we went to eat, and it was no problem (I don't even remember what they charged and I didn't care - but I tipped huge and got to eat Chinese out, which was great)...

And now, I call or email restaurants in advance all the time for my adult-onset food allergies. For some, it's to determine what they use for fats - I now have a favorite Indian place b/c they don't use ghee, they use canola oil, for all of their dishes. Most people would hate knowing this fact. I know that I can get simple dishes from them b/c they don't automatically have dairy in EVERY dish:). And I never care what they charge for my dish b/c the certainty of non-allergy is worth it (now, my kids still get a budget from me:))...

I already emailed Universal and Sea World for my trip next month. They sent me sample allergy menus at my planned restaurants and told me to request a chef or go in and chat at each restaurant (b/c I have dual allergies that tend to conflict on the allergy menus)...and no mobile ordering at any counter service. So, I'm bringing their corporate emails in case the "no, you can't go in, you have to mobile order" comes up.

I understand what you’re saying, but PF Chang’s has noodles on the menu, they just made them plain for you. That’s different than asking them to go out and get something they don’t even have in the kitchen. And of course allergies are a totally different situation.

Prior to Covid we used to go for lunch as they served french fries. They were the only things my kids would eat. To date, this has not changed. They will not eat anything on the BRG menu and will only eat Grandma's mac and cheese- so no luck there either.
