I am a little confused.

I have read that people line up for an hour to wait to get into Be Our Guest for lunch but I've also read that they take reservations for lunch and you can pre-order your food.

Did the way lunch there works change at some point or are people waiting an hour just to get in the door even with reservations?

We had lunch reservations and yes we ordered our food ahead (now this was last year) But people do line up hoping to get in! Maybe someone who's been more recently can chime in.

Initially you had to line up for lunch - they didn't do reservations. Then they changed to pretty much reservation only. A few people get lucky and are able to walk up but that is not the norm

However, if you make a reservation and don't pre-order, there is a line to get to the kiosk to place your order. With reservations, we waited almost an hour to order before we could move on to finding a seat.

I recommend pre ordering. You can always change your choices when you arrive if you want, but if you don't you'll wait less time before you are seated.

Before the need for an ADR, my DH and I would go around 2 or so and just get dessert. Is that still possible? At that time the place was not very busy. I don't want to do an ADR. It was one of those "hey, let's stop in for coffee and dessert", not plan the whole day around it.

BOG is one of the most popular restaurants in WDW. I would be shocked if you could get in without a reservation.

On the app. It is really easy. I did it at midnight the night before we had breakfast.
On your MDE acct. you will see a date next to your ADR on when you can pre-order.

I was there last week and had pre ordered. After checking in I could go to the left side of the line as the right side was for those who had to order. The right side was much longer and we to seated after paying for our pre-order pretty quickly. When we left the line for ordering was even longer. So I could definitely believe that people waited an hour with reservations but with needing to order food. Pre-ordering is the way to go.

I ate at BOG two weeks ago and pre-ordered. I breezed right in. There was a line of people on the right, nearly back to the check in full of hot, cranky people fanning themselves with menus while they waited to order. We are having lunch there on Thursday the 13th and you can bet your booty we'll be pre-ordering.
