Be Our Guest lunch ordering question

I am going to hijack too. My reservation is for 8 people. 3 families each on the dining plan. If I order for everybody I am assuming we can split up the payment at the restaurant? Also, can my 6 year old order off the adult menu. I thought that the dining plan now allowed for that but I just read a conflicting report.

I would also like to know if you can split up the bill if preordering. I have 5 rooms on 1 reservation (11 people). Want to make sure they are able to subtract the correct credits from each room, even though we are all on 1 resv

Whether QS or TS, everything that Disney puts out officially states that children 3-9 must order from the children's menu where available.

I thought the new rules for the dining plan that started on May 31st specifically stated that children can now order off of the adult menu at least at QS locations. Not sure if that is also the case for TS.

That's what a lot of blogs and unofficial stuff said, but I haven't seen anything come from Disney that even suggests this. The 2016 dining plan brochures came out after the changes and do show the ability to exchange the beverage and dessert with QS meals to other snack items, but all plans still state "Guests ages 3-9 must order from a children's menu where available."

Since the other changes have been officially advertised and documented since June 1st and the places that have published this information must have gotten it from "somewhere" (press release????), perhaps Disney just isn't "advertising" that change on the brochure but have informed CM's to officially allow it to happen when requested. Or the intern in charge of updating the 2016 brochure missed that part. ;) I think that's the one "official" change that could potentially cut into Disney's dining plan profits the most so I can see why they might not advertise it. If a child orders off the adult menu at each meal, they could potentially order meals that cost more than the dining plan cost for the day (when you add in a snack and the amortized cost of the refillable mug) -- though I'm sure Disney is *still* making money on the plan. So they still say on the brochure that kids must order from the kids menu, but now if someone *asks* if a kid can order of the adult menu the official answer will be "yes". Disney knew this was being done in the past (CM's were telling people -- myself included -- that it was fine for kids to order off the adult menu. FTR, I didn't even ask, the CM overheard my then 6 yo DD getting upset that she couldn't order the adult meal she really wanted and the CM said, "It's not a problem for her to order off of the adult menu with the dining plan. We want our guests to be happy with their meals.") and didn't do anything to discourage it so in reality, they were not only allowing it, but encouraging it.

I pre-ordered, but I don't really see the point. I still had to go to a kiosk and 'confirm' my order, so I didn't save any time.

Where have you seen any changes officially advertised and documented other than substituting snack items for beverage/dessert at QS? There's a lot of grey area here, but Disney telling CMs not to enforce the rules that they advertise is not the same as changing those rules. I'm not saying it's the same thing, but just because a retail associate isn't supposed to stop shoplifters doesn't mean the company they work for allows theft, KWIM?

I think you are correct in saying Disney's cost will be negligible on the QS side of things, but with the Deluxe plan there will be a significant cost effect if people use credits purchased for a child to pay for adults at TS meals.

A CM has no way of knowing how many kids QS credits and adults QS credits you have since they are one and the same in the system. Disney could have programmed their system the same way they did TS credits which is to offer separate child and adult TS credits...but they didn't. All QS credits are pooled into one pot to be used as you wish.

1st site: "These credits aren't separated into child or adult categories so you can theoretically get adult meals for your child." - This is true, but does not imply that it is allowed.
2nd site: This is an online forum post from over a year ago, well before the rumored changes. It makes reference to this being against DDP rules.
3rd site: Great example of an UNofficial post on dining plan changes.
4th site: "Child quick service credits can be used for adult meals (SHHH! Little known fact – helpful if you stretch your dollar and share more meals during your stay)." - Another one from over a year ago that again does not imply this is allowed.

I never said it couldn't be done. I still haven't seen evidence that Disney officially allows it.

We've always ordered adult meals using our credits, but we've never tried to order more meals than the number of adults on our package (we're always 2 adults, 1 child). My husband and I would check out separately. I always got the impression if we tried to order 3 adult meals, the CM could choose to force us to order off the child's menu. So for this trip, to avoid the hassle, I had them age up or kiddo so he's an adult for the package. Since the dining was free, the price only went up $20 (3-day ticket difference).

Did I miss the answer to the one order, multiple plan payment question? We'll have 6 people for BOG lunch but 2 separate dining plans. Can you still pre-order this way or should we just order when we get there?

I think you are splitting hairs here. The question was: --can I use child QS credits (something that doesn't even exist) to buy an adult meal?-- No matter what the brochure says, the answer is still yes. It has been this way for years and has nothing to do with what happened or didn't happen in May. I assume that when people ask a question on the DIS they want to know what is actually possible and what happens in practice, not just what the brochure or website states, since the people on here frequently know more than the CMs.

Both of us have made our points and it makes no sense to keep going round and round about this. I think the answer is in the actual testimonials in this thread and others. Has anyone ever been told they had to buy off of the kids menu? If so I would love to hear your experience as this is something I have never heard of.

After the question of can it be done came:

From this I assumed that people might care what the actual rules of the dining plan allow. I only responded to your links because I didn't want people to mistakenly believe that they were linking to the official confirmation I was asking about in the post immediately above yours. And with that, I'm out.

Whoever wants to order adult QS meals for their children, just do it. Obviously, if disney didn't want this to happen they would of made it impossible to do, like they put the discs in the soda cups so you cheat by taking unlimited soda. We have been proudly doing this for years. We have spent thousands of dollars in disney and I never felt like we were stealing anything. Many people knew about this, as did disney and they never changed it so obviously it wasn't something that they were concerned about.

So...i just want to make sure I have this right, if we pre-order, we still have to go to the kiosk and confirm our meal? Also, there are 8 of us, 2 separate dining plans, this will not be an issue if we all pre-order early correct? I just want to make sure i have everything squared away, 4 small kids and chaos don't usually go well together;)
