I was one of those people who got up at the crack of dawn to make ressies by phone on the first possible day. I was sooooo excited about having not one, but two dinners here. In all, I give the place a solid "C-" and probably won't be back. The dinner was for just my DH and me.

Our first dinner was on Friday, 5 January. We were seated on time and led to...the absolutely WORST table in the house. It was located in a high traffic area which provided my husband a stunning view right into the men's bathroom, highly visible through the doorway. We asked for permission merely to set his chair 90 degrees to another side of the table so that would at least not have to cope with looking into the men's room while he was eating. Our waiter consulted with two people, who grudgingly allowed him to reposition his chair. We were nevertheless bumped regularly by people coming into the restaurant, even me, though I sat in the "regular" place. The table for two was postage-stamp sized and could barely fit our dinner plates, flatware and silverware.

Our waiter was terrible. We had to ask for everything--the bread basket, sugar and milk for my tea, refills on our drinks every time. He never checked in with us as we ate.

I ordered the French onion soup. It was just okay. Visually, it looked great. The cheese was plentiful good, but the soup itself held very little onion and the broth was bland. I've had better canned soup, and the frozen Onion soup from Trader Joe's puts this to shame. My husband had the green salad, which was nothing special at all.

As we began our appetizers, our main course arrived. Now, even if we had a place on which we could set the dishes, it would have been about 20 minutes too soon. Our server seemed surprised when we said we weren't ready for this. We were told that they would "keep" it for us. I worried that it would be set under a warmer.

My husband accurately predicted that the main course would now be long in coming. 30 minutes later, it arrived. We both had the Shrimp and Scallops in Lobster Sauce and puff pastry. This was very good. The shrimp and scallops were large and plentiful. The dish had an Asian flavor, IMO, and we enjoyed it. It had obviously been freshly made, not merely warmed, since both the shrimp and scallops were cooked perfectly. We would have liked a little bit more sauce as what we were served barely wetted the pastry. In all, I give this dish a B.

We were both so uncomfortable at that awful little table that we chose not to have dessert. We just wanted out of the restaurant. We really couldn't enjoy any of the ambiance of the place--we were as far away from the "snowfall" outside the window as one could possibly be, just steps away from the reception podium. In that area, we found it loud and just plain dismal.

Total bill, including tip was around $80. (We still left around 15%). This was for two appetozers, and two dinners, and two servings of tea.

I decided that before just blasting this experience on the Disboard and telling everyone I could to "stay away" from this place, my husband and I would speak to a manager. He came out and listened to our feedback, in which I tried to provide a balanced review. We indicated that the main dish was very good, but that the service, attempt to rush us through our meal, and the horrible table location really spoiled our enjoyment of the restaurant. He apologized that we had such a disappointing experience and admitted that this table was one of the most undesirable in the house. We suggested that perhaps they consider just taking it out, but it was clear that wasn't going to happen. My husband said that we would be cancelling our reservation for the next week. He asked us to please return to allow him an opportunity to provide us with a better experience. He gave us his card and asked us to present this at our next visit, should we keep our reservation.

Well, we did keep the next ressie. The manager, as promised, came out to welcome us. We were led to a table close to the beautiful window scene. We sat at a four top, which is about the size of a normal two top. This accomodated everything just right. I wasn't worried about knocking over something as I reached for my glass. Our server (Jay) was excellent. She provided great recommendations for us, and told us that the snowfall was the exact one depicted in the movie. She invited us to see the West Wing on our way out (something that everyone can do; our previous waiter never bothered to inform us of this). This time, I had the Mussels, which truly were excellent. They were fragrant, plentiful, and cooked in a lovely wine and garlic sauce. Bread was brought to the table, and I used it to soak up some of that excellent broth. My husband had the Onion soup--he thought it was "just okay" as I had thought previously. Score of A for the mussels and C for the soup. DH also had a Kronenburg beer, which he enjoyed.

Nevertheless, midway through my enjoyment of the mussels, the main dish was brought. We again sent it back. I'm not a slow eater by any means, so it's clearly a problem of communication between the servers and the kitchen. Either that, or they are intent on rushing people in and out as quickly as possible to turn those tables. Even at a normal pace, my husband were in and out of the restaurant in around 55 minutes, which included service for appetizer, main dish, and dessert. I don't think this is unreasonable, but we had to set this pace or otherwise we would have been in and out in around 30 minutes if we had let the restaurant dictate the schedule.

We got the scallops and shrimp again, and this appears to be a very solid dish for them. It was very good.

We both had the Beast's triple chocolate cupcake for dessert. It was delicious, and a nice bite to finish the meal. A bargain at $3.99--I would expect to pay that in the local cupcake shop. Manager checked in again at the end of the meal and we indicated that this experience was far superior to our previous visit. Bill, including 25% tip, was a little over $100.

We did check out the West Wing, which is highly themed, much smaller, and quite dark compared to the ballroom. The main "ballroom" dining room, was nice enough, but would have been fairly pedestrian (kind of like a hotel ballroom) had it not been for those fabulous windows at the back of the restaurant.

We posed with the Beast for a picture and exited through the Armory room. Don't miss the Armory! I won't spoil the many surprises it holds, but suffice it to say that DH and I found this very entertaining and delightful way to conclude our dinner there. I could swear that the knights were speaking directly to us, as they seemed to respond to our actions and comments, while providing their own unique verbalizations. Very, very clever on the part of the Imagineers!

So there you have it. I think this is a restaurant that is still trying to find itself. If you get a good table and a decent server, you'll enjoy it. If you are not so lucky, then you'll wonder what the big deal is all about, and be able to think of at least 10 places on Disney property which provide a better experience. (Yes, that same sad little table was there on the second visit--we mourned for the people seated there). The food is very good--my overall favorite was the mussels. Do be sure to set your own pace rather than allowing yourself to be rushed! They will accomodate that (cheerfully, if you have a good server).

In sum, we won't return anytime soon, instead booking an ADR again for Via Napoli, which was soooo much better overall.

We felt very rushed during our dinner there in December. We too had to send back our entrees as they were brought out whilst we were still eating our appetisers. My DD is a slow eater, and what with having to take her to the bathroom as well, she took even longer to eat her meal. Three times our server tried to have us decide on our desserts and three times I told him, thanks but we'll wait until DD has finished her entree!!

I'm sorry you had an unpleasant meal the first time, I hope that they can get all the kinks worked out, and not rush everyone in the future.

I'm sorry you had a mixed bag there! Hopefully they will get the kinks worked out...

Although for us, with three kids who eat like birds (and really, really fast eating birds at that!), being able to get in and out in 30 minutes would be a lifesaver!!! :goodvibes

We didn't feel rushed at all. We had a great meal. We had a table at the end of the row near the west wing. So we only had a table on one side of us. We were lucky. The tables are too close, but that is a Disney thing. The 2 women next to us barely had room to cut their food w/o elbowing someone. Lol. But they didn't seem to mind. I know because I could see and hear everything that went on over there!

thanks for your reviews..
I understand being close to someone else while eating...we ALMOST shared our table and meal with another couple at Le Cellier once...She even commented on my meal...saying...Oh you got the salmon too..(nope) it was rare (RAW) prime rib...had to send it back...but under stand the closeness of that ..
I would love to try their seafood too..
Thanks again for your reviews

we also felt rushed. This was my birthday dinner on the 16th.
We had JUST gotten our appetizers when our entrees were brought out.
The kids menu stinks. My kids won't eat meat (I don't know why,
they just wont, except my son eats bacon). And they do not like
whole wheat pasta (most kids don't) and the server, Leslie, when
asked for fries so they could eat something said 'we don't have
fries here'. . .. and gee, what is on the plate with the men's
steaks? fries. So the men had to give up their fries so the kids
could eat something. they were brought the pasta with the sauce
on the side, and both took one bite and pushed it away. So
adults can have regular pasta and fries, but children? Nope. It's eat
the (very nasty I might add, I tasted it) whole wheat pasta or starve.
But then they offer kids a cupcake for dessert. So there goes their
whole 'we insist on healthy for kids' enforcement.

We had the french onion soup, which was borderline disgusting if you
are a fan of it and have eaten it regularly. The broth was almost clear,
tasteless and bland. It was GROSS. I agree, I've had canned soup
better than that. My FIL had the mussels appy, which he liked.
Kids got salad that they wouldn't touch. I had the pork chop, which
was good, the mac n cheese with it was ok. . . but it was a bit gritty
and my kids wouldn't eat that either. Men said the steaks were fair, but
not great. MIL had the cornish hen, which was rather dry.
The strawberry cupcake was outstanding, but the rest were
mediocre, and the passion fruit dessert was -nasty- (we all got something
different and shared bites). Hands down, strawberry.

it was so loud in there you could barely hear each other. The west wing
was smaller and quieter, I wish we could have sat in there. The tables are so close the person behind me kept bumping me. We won't go back there.

OP, so sorry to hear your experience was not good.

We ate there last month (there were six of us at dinner) and everything was near perfect...the service, the food, the experience, etc. DH has requested we go back in August and December and we will be doing our best to get the ADR's (and I'm going in June on my girls trip).

:( I would have made the biggest stink in the World! Pun intended! If something is on the menu, you should be able to get it! The manager should have been involved in this. That server should not be working there if this is the way she treats people. I am not a person who likes conflict. But mess with my kid and watch out! I hope you have her name because you should contact Disney and report her!

I won't go back, and will tell everyone who asks how I liked it exactly how it was for us and how my kids were treated. IMHO, it's inexcusable to let kids just not eat at a disney restaurant when you have food they will eat right there in the kitchen. . .. but it's for adult meals only. I had told her they would not eat that whole wheat pasta and when they did not, she wordlessly took the untouched plates away, offering not so much as an apology or any comment at all. The only time we couldn't get fries at any other place is if they physically did not have them in the place. I was a waitress for a long time and I would never let a kid go hungry.

I had not seen your post (I only read the post by the original poster). I am sorry for the experience you had as well and I can certainly understand your not wanting to go back.

I didn't make a huge stink or ask to see a manager because I didn't know if it would do any good and it was my birthday dinner and everyone in our party was trying to make it fun. I have emailed the guest relations email address I found, and I did tell them about it. I don't really expect anything more than a 'sorry about that' reply, if anything. But for the hype, this restaurant did NOT deliver. In any category. We were on the deluxe dining plan, I see no reason to just say 'they can't have that' when it comes to fried potatoes. The place was a zoo anyway and we didn't get out of there until well after the park closed.

Hope you at least get a phone call and the price of the dinner in a dining card. I did when I complained about Ohana. I have been going to Disney for 22 years and everytime I have contacted them it was to praise someone. Because I had never had a truly horrible experiance. Sometimes not fantastic but I know sometimes places have off days. Whatever! But in Nov. I had an unaccceptable experiance. So I wrote. I also didn't talk to a manager that night. I just wanted to get out of there. I also told them about another CM who tried to make up for it the next place we went. She helped! Nobody should be treated the way you were. Anyplace! Especially DW.

I wrote one long letter, mostly with praise for several outstanding servers
we had during our ten days. She was the one bad experience. We kept a memo in my husbands phone, if a server was very good, we noted the name and restaurant so we could send praise later. I love to give praise, I was a waitress for 10 years. Such praise is often posted on the bboard for all to see and it makes people feel good and can motivate all the servers to do their best. And I left my phone number. So we will see what happens. Left praise for five servers who I felt went above and beyond, one negative for servers, one negative for POR for messing up our reservations and being unwilling to fix it.

This is mainly for Quicklabs, but truly applies to everyone.

When shown to the horrible table, you should have asked for a different one. You may have had to wait a few minutes, but that would have been time well spent! NEVER order hot tea in any US restaurant, unless you are at afternoon tea. (For details ask the next waiter you come into contact with.) You can set the pace of your meal by not ordering all courses at the same time. Do not order your entree until after the apps have arrived. Regarding the onion soup, why would you order it a second time?

I'm glad that your second experience was much better overall.

CandaceH - As a waiter myself, you are right about the letters of praise, they are great especially when accompanied by a FAT tip!
