Be honest.. Do you ever leave the dirty dishes...

There are usually some dishes because the dishwash is full. I sometimes forget a couple on the table because I start to run out of steam.:o

I never even use my dishwasher, and haven't in probably at least 5 years! I've read (right here on the DIS in fact!) that if you don't use it every so often that the hoses dryrot. So...I'm hesitant to even try it now, I may have a flood in my kitchen!

I don't mind washing dishes at all.

My dishwasher is used more for storage than anything else!

Always.... :o Usually if there was only one pan used, I can't see wasting my time. So I rinse and put it to the side to wait for another pan....

Only the dishwasher washes dishes in our house. They stay dirty for a couple of days in it until it is full.

That's our house too. I don't leave dirty dishes in the sink for ANY length of time. I hate the clutter.

But we don't run the DW until it's full of dirty dishes and it gets emptied ASAP afterwards.

ummmm.....wait a minute......are you saying that some people do their dishes EVERY DAY?!?!?!?:o

We are on the go a lot, so we only eat at home maybe 2-3 times a week. I have to admit that I usually let whatever glasses and bowls we use pile up until I cook a meal and have enough to put in the dishwasher.

I have a friend who never even has so much as a dirty glass in the sink. I'd like to know what kind of obedience school she had to send her family to so that they would do that!

Let's see...today is Friday, isn't it? We're not home for dinner during the week, but there are glasses and some breakfast dishes in there, sometimes ALL WEEK! (There goes the Good Housekeeping Award - LOL) Food is scraped or rinsed off, at least, but I get home from work so late, I like to RELAX when I get there - not do more work!

As an adendum to my original post on this thread.

We put all glasses, plates, bowls, etc in the dishwasher after meals or whatever. But we do not put pots, pans, or flatware in the dishwasher. It is those things that are usually left overnight when I don't "do the dishes."

Thanks for the explanation Beth. I was wondering about you!:teeth:

When I leave the dishes til morning, I mean every last one of them, lol.

It rarely happens though, because DH is a neat freak (no offense to his fellow neat freaks).
If I get up from the dinner table and say, oh...I don't know..I go get the newspaper or something, well, the second my back is turned, I can hear the clanking of dishes. There he is...washing, drying and putting them away! lol

The times they have been left 'til morning were when he was at work...and I felt like being bad.:p

*oh, and I want to add...I am a neat freak for some things...but not the kitchen.:D

Dishwasher unloading is DDs job. If she doesn't do it, it doesn't get done -- sometimes for days. Meanwhile the sink is piling up. I learned a long time ago, if I do it once, it becomes my chore. The rub is - if the dishwasher has dirty dishes in it everyone is supposed to put all their dirty dishes in. If the dishwasher is clean, they pile them in the sink and DD has to load the dishwasher after unloading it. Gives her an incentive (sometimes) to be more timely.

I keep expecting the health department to pay a call!

Yes! Doing dishes the minute we finish eating is not a priority here. I wish I cared more about such things because I really do like things to look neat, I just don't like to have to rush around to get it done by a certain time.

Reading through this thread reminded me of a funny story. When one of my college roommates was first married she planned a dinner party. Ok, like most newlyweds she wanted it perfect and planned something that was a "bit" over her head.

She managed to get the meal cooked, table set, etc. - house was even cleaned. But as her in-laws were pulling in the driveway she turned around and realized you could see the kitchen from the dining area and it was STACKED with dirty pots and pans, mixing bowls, etc. from the prep work. Since I happened to be a "guest" (uh - huh I got to eat to help her!) I was quickly pushed into duty as we hustled all of those dirty items into the bathroom. There they were dumped in the tub and the shower curtain pulled! She ran a quick cloth over the countertops in the kitchen. Through the whole dinner her MIL was raving about the wonderful meal, what an efficient cook she had become in such a short time to prepare everything and still have the kitchen spotless....you get the idea. Any way I could barely control the laughter! Once they left we both collapsed on the floor we were laughing so hard.

Then, since the dishes were already in the tub we decided to take the dish soap in there and do them! Hey it was over 20 years ago and we were just out of college!

I think I'll have to call her tonight and relive that moment!

Have a great weekend everyone!
Deb

No I put the dishes and the pans in the dishwasher everynight. I have to have the kitchen sparkling before I go to bed!
