BE CAREFULL WHEN VISTING OTHER WEBSITES !!!

The internet is not safe. Everybody should be running a firewall if they are connected via DSL, Cable or ISDN.

http://www.zonealarm.com

That site has a free personal firewall.

NWO_THUNDER has made his website well known in the 9 days that he has been a member here. Warning his website employes a spy-ware or bot. If you visit his site please do not install anything that it ask you to do I'm not sure what all it will do but from what I've been reading its not pretty. If you have a firewall it will catch the piece of crap while trying to access the Internet before it can install.

Xupiter is something I installed thinking it was a plugin needed to see a web page. It was certified so I trusted. It hijacked my computer.

First, I disabled its tool bar from the browser and returned the internet settings to my fav start page, but next time I opened a browser window xupiter would be the start page again.

Then I tried to uninstall Xupiter from the control panel, but I did not find it there. Therefore, I went to www.xupiter.com and tried to use their uninstall link. It did nothing.

So, I tried to erase its directory but a .dll, XTUPDATE, is not deletable as it's always in use by windows. From there on there's always a message appearing each time I try to open an explorer or iexplorer window. The message is "Xupiter Toolbar is not installed properly, please resinstall..." I even wanted to reinstall but there is no link provided in the site.

Following the instructions to remove programs that run themselves at start-up on cexx.org/startup, I removed the reference to the Xupiter thing from a -Run entry in the system Registry, but the messages continued appearing.

Then I found, using msinfo32 Software Environment/32Bits Loaded Modules, that the XTUPDATE.DLL is there.
So I looked for all other references of Xupiter or XTUPDATE on the system Registry and I found it suscribed as a class and as a library under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES (I guess there is even a looping reference), and as the default search bar for the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT. It's also referenced under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Code Store Database\Distribution Units.

Not trying to scare anyone but please be carefull when visting websites !!

I think you should mention in your post that the person who runs the site never had ANY intentions of anyone recieving anything like that! Your way of posting makes it seem as though it's part of his website that he added it to.

What a great site and your giving it a bad name.

Mike

I did not install anything. I'm warning people that visit his site. I have no idea of his intent. Spy-ware is the scourge of the Internet and should be treated as such. The website owner should do everything possible to remove such trash from their site.

If anyone ever accidentally installs something like that, I highly recommend using Ad-Aware to scan their computer. It's a good idea to run it even if you think you're clean. You probably have picked up something (even if it's just some rogue cookies) without knowing it.

Quick question for you :)

Did you ever think that maybe ad-ware is infact spy-ware itself?

Mike

It isn't. I've seen it recommended in some of the other boards I visit, and no one has ever complained.

I've been using it regularly for months and have never had a problem. No weird things popping up or things running in the background.

Ad-Aware is the total opposite of spyware. It has won many PC awards and is highly recommended by many. Here is a link to explain what it is and how it works. I have been using it for quite a while now without any glitches. As EUROPA suggested everybody surfing the web should have some sort of protection.

Sorry Pkdcaostrs, but if you are pushing your site as nWothunder is obviously doing then there is a responsibilty that goes with it. Just saying "i do not know what you are talking about" and " i do not own the site" just does not get it.
He is pushing it so it is his responsibility to keep it clean and know what it is doing.

Well, it was enough that were all pretty much aware that you had a site or two with lots and lots and lots of pictures.

You have now posted the same exact message in two threads. You started a new thread to make your point. You've made your point. Saying it again and again doesn't change anything.

In fact, many of your posts on here thus far have been either arguing a fact with someone, or they've been about your web-site now. Very few posts have been answers to people's questions. Some have, and that's great, THAT is what this board is for. So the percentage of posts that include links to your sites is definitely scewed by excessive, repeat posting.

No need to keep quoting all of us in separate posts to yourself.

One thread, 9 replies....8 of them from the original poster - free.
One web-site, hijacking spyware - free.
Ignore button...priceless. :jester:

Why are you posting here anyway? I made you a thread all about this problem, was that one not good enough?

Um...I'm pretty sure we have as much a right to post here as you do...and I believe WE are responding to YOUR posts. If you didn't post here, we wouldn't have replied.

It's very simple.

We don't have to go to YOUR threads and stay there, we are free, just like you, to post replies that are relevant wherever we choose.

Europa made this thread, and frankly, I think it's a good idea to keep it bumped up. Thanks for helping out with that ;)

Did I post a link to my site there? I didn't see one. BTW I did just post all them above in the post you replied to thanks for proving that I was helping people.

Mike

Yep you were bragging about you site once again...

I have posted this so many times I should add it in my FAQ Section of my website.

Nothing!!!

They added a new entrance, with posters and pictures a new video outside the queue area. Made a new preshow video, redecorated the entrance where you get your pass. They changed the ride by repainting it, more fog, new lighting, and new lighting effects.

That's all the new ride is. You can see pictures of the new ride at my website link below.

Well you and him both said I am such a heavy spammer I want to defend myself and show that I posted my site 5 times.

Where exactly did MIB and I actually call you a spammer? LOL MIB999999 still thinks Spam is lunchmeat in a can!

We said you mentioned in numerous posts that you had a web-site. We didn't say you were a spammer. We never once used that term, I don't think...I'm sure you can pull it up for us if we did...

Karen

It was me...and if anybody needed any proof he has provided it. How many post has is made today? How many of them were truly content? At one point before todays hissy fit 1/4 of his post were about his website.

Cripes how old are you? I fell like I'm arguing with a 12 year old here.

How can 1/4 of my post be about your website ??? Do you see how long I've been here?

Yes you did post a link to you website in the post in question can't you read?

That's all the new ride is. You can see pictures of the new ride at my website link below.

Hey man good luck with the website. I'm sure Barry will come along any minute and put a stop to all of this.

This thread is locked.

By the way, I should mention here that if you are going to post your personal website on this board, it is customary to post a link back to the DIS. Thank you.
