NEAR BATTLE CREEK (NEWS 3) - A Battle Creek man is in the Calhoun County jail accused of trying to solicit sex from a minor that turned out to be an undercover police officer.

The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety says they caught 32-year-old Brian Woodman in an Internet sting. He's accused of chatting with a girl he thought was 14-years-old and then arranging to meet her for sex.

When Woodman arrived for that meeting, he found out that he had been chatting with an undercover police officer.

Woodman was arraigned today on eight felony counts.

The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety organized the sting. They say an officer had numerous illicit conversations with Woodman for about a week before they arranged a time to meet.

The investigation started after a 16-year-old student at Harper Creek high school told the school resource officer that she had been approached by a predator online at the popular website Myspace.com.

“They were very upset about what the person said to them, very creeped out about it, to be frank,” said Emmett Township Public Safety Lt. Tony Geigle.

Police created a profile on the site and allegedly started talking with Woodman, posing as a 14-year-old girl.

“Unfortunately, people kind of put too much information on these sites, which allows people, especially predators, to prey on people - unfortunately kids,” said Geigle.

Police seized computer equipment from Woodman's home on North Avenue in Battle Creek.

Woodman’s wife, Nina, said Thursday she never suspected her husband of chatting online with children. “I just don't see that he would do that to a child,” she said. “I have never seen my husband do anything like that on the internet - nothing with children, no talking to underage people.”

Bond for Woodman was set at $100,000. If he is released, he has been ordered not to have contact with anyone under the age of 16 or use the internet.

-Shudder-

Why do people have to ruin the world for everyone else?

Omg thats not right, once by my school there was a 15 yr old gurl walking to school a red car pulled up and a man opened the door asking her if she needed a ride. She politly said no and started walking the car then moved up following her.once again the door opened and the man Told the girl to get in the car she refused and started running a near by woman that saw this then called the police. This happened about five months ago. There was another incident but in my development,my friends were out side walking aron when again a RED car stoped in the street.the car stayed there for more than 10 minutes until my friend nick's mom came out.she then told nick to go in the house and walked my other friends home ( thank god for his mom ) the car then drove away.

Always make your kids go in groups if going any where.

Make sure there is an adult aware of were they are and near.

And remember there are amazingly discusting ppl in this world.

My friend whom i have been in plays with is a real cool dude. He's also a police chief. He busts people all the time by acting like a teenage girl and getting them to come to the police station. I think its kind of funny when I read about the idiots in the paper lol.

I've heard about that, when cops pretend to be teenagers to catch people like that.
