I opted to use TED for our flights from IAD to MCO. When I searched the flyted.com website, I toggled for a "morning" flight and got 3 flights returned. I assumed they were listed in order by time, the first being 7:20, the second being 9:45 and the third being 2:20. Well, unfortunately I didn't notice that the 9:45 flight departed in the PM rather than the AM. I booked this way back in November and didn't even notice this until today!
I spoke to United (who operates TED) today and luckily the 7:20am flight was still available. The "life tax" (some might refer to it as "stupid tax") that I had to pay was $100 per ticket to make the change. I just spent the last 2 hours on the phone and there is absolutely no way United will waive this fee. They did offer to send me $50 vouchers for each ticket that I can use on a future flight, which softened the blow a little bit.
So, beware ye all who book their reservations via the internet to save the call-center fee and/or get extra bonus miles - check, re-check, and double re-check your flight information and then check it a couple more times.
