BCV-- worth the extra $?

I've never stayed at the BCV (so far only OKW and VWL), but the price differential between BC and the other DVCs seems huge (in some cases its more than 20-25 a point!).

What is it about BCVs that makes it worth the extra costs? Is it really impossible to book outside the 11 month window there?

The points required for BCV are the same as VWL or BWV perfered view.
Of the on site DVCs OKW is the lowest, followed closely by BWV Std view then SSR.

Value is in the eye of the beholder - err seller? - errr buyer?

Seriously, something is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. In the case of BCV, there is a lot of demand (people love things like the location and access to SAB) and limited supply (its a fairly small resort), so the price is high.

I keep trying to weigh not the price to buy BCV (same price through Disney to do an add-on for us), but whether or not the point costs per night are worth it to us...We love OKW and may just do an add-on there, they once in a while try to stay at BCV since we wouldn't be too disappointed if we couldn't stay there. We can stay in a 2BR at OKW for the cost of a 1BR at BCV with points...hard call!

A weekend night in a 2 BR or GV is cheaper at SSR than OKW. (at least it is during the magic season, late June)

IMHO, I think the BWV are a better value due to the point cost for the Standard View and having the same location as BCV- Close to MGM & Epcot.

The BCV have a beach feel which is great especially if you do not live on the coast and love the beach. SAB is fabulous and if you don't do the parks that much and love to sit by the pool then BCV is the better place. The BCV is also very relaxing & quiet.

The only thing I didn't like about the BCV is that they seem secluded from the rest of the resort. The pool is not near the villas (where some rooms at the BWV overlook the pool area) After being at the BWV with a boardwalk View I was very disappointed with the views and the lack of action- however to some the lack of action is what they want.

I'll stick to the lower point rooms at the boardwalk and spend more days at Disney!!!

BCV & BWV owner...I love BCV's location & the SAB pool for Spring & Summer. I like the relaxed atmosphere. My family and I feel very at home there. I book most of our vacations at either resort. I have booked 1 night at the SSR in the past, and most recently, booked 3Ns & 2Ns cash ressie at the OKW for the trip that I'm planning for later this month thru July. BCV wasn't available on the days that I needed since I only started planning this mega trip 1 1/2 mos ago! I'm finding that BWV makes great sense for someone who wants that advantage of being near Epcot, but also appreciates the smaller point values that the stnd view requires. Plus, the Boardwalk View is a great option that costs the same as the BCVs in points. BWV resale points are less expensive than BCV which are selling for $5-$10 over the BWVs! I'm still glad that I decided to purchase at both BCV & BWV resorts over SSR/VWL/OKW. I'm not saying that I wouldn't want a contract at any of those resorts, I just haven't had a problem booking either of those resorts. If I find that I just love the OKW, I may change my mind about adding on more points at the BCVs, and look for a resale contract there for the less expensive points. My husband loves having space, and I've read about the larger OKW rooms 1bdrm, 2bdrm & GV in comparison to the other resorts. We almost always rent a car, so that wouldn't be a big deal getting around.

Best Wishes :cloud9:

I was able to book BVC studio for the last week of Feb. this year at 5 months out and then (while there) decided to change our ressie for late August to a 2 Bdrm at BCV at 6 months out. We generally try to travel in somewhat off times though and things may change in the future for booking. I would be happy at any of the resorts though, so factor that into your decision. I have 4 pool loving kids that are happy to spend endless hours in the resort pool so BCV's Stormalong Bay is a dream come true for them! I liked walking home from Epcot after the fireworks. Maybe consider staying there for a few nights to check it out? Good luck!

The location and the pool...Stormalong bay.

No, it is not impossible, but depending on the time of year, it can be tough.

I booked at BCV only two months out for mid summer in a 1 bedroom. However I used the 11 month window for my April 2007 vacation there since that is one of the most crowded months. No problems getting either but then I own at BCV.

As far as the attraction - Location, style and StormAlong Bay - no question.

Can't wait to see it for our first time as DVC owners.

It depends on the season. Studios have been more difficult for me to book within 3 months of arrival. I own there, but I don't always book outside of 7 months. For the times, that I do book 11months out, I'm glad that I own there.
It's been easier for me to book BWV studios than BCV during Summer. Makes sense because it's smaller and has the SAB pool. I can just hang out there all day!

I got a BCV 1 BR for a few days during the F&W in Oct. at the 7 month window. I also wait listed for a studio and it just came through. It isn't impossible, but it is getting more difficult.

It's totally absurd that people would pay that much more per point for BCV. So what if they have a mini water park on-site, you can walk to EPCOT in 5 minutes, can walk to MGM in 15 minutes (but the boat ride is much nicer), you can go to one of the greatest places to eat in the "World" at Beaches n' Cream and you can sit on the balcony of quite a few villas with a great view of Illuminations.
Of course many people call me absurd :rotfl:

Yeah! I'm pretty absurd too! Can't wait to eat my toasted roast beef from the Market Place!

I agree. It is also absurd that the average house in the town I live in Connecticut goes for $1.1 Million and the average house in Omaha I visited last week is about $140,000. Absurd. It's all about location, amenities and what people are willing to pay. And I had no problem paying a few dollars more which at 92 per point on 210 points was about maybe $10 more or $2100 over 36 years or about $58 per year. Peanuts in the long run and the nicest place I've seen.

For my DH and I, it's location, location, location. Our kids are grown and it's just us. We spend the majority of our time in Epcot/WS and love being able to walk to MGM. So, stay only at BWV or BCV. Stormalong Bay never came into the equation.

I think whether or not ANY resort is worth $15 more a point depends on two factors:
  • Whether or not you can actually plan and book 7+ months out, and therefore benefit from the 11 month window. If you can't, what's the point?
  • And...whether staying in that particular resort -- especially at busy times -- is really THAT important to you.
If the answers to both of those questions are yes, then I think it probably IS worth the premium in your particular case.

Sometimes I think it is a good exercise to take a step back and do the math. If you pay $20 per point more for ABC, for example, and you buy 200 points -- you've paid a total of $4,000 more than you might have paid for XYZ. In the context of your overall cost for the entire length of your DVC ownership, $4,000 is really not that much money.

Also, I think we have to put DVC purchases in the same context as other large purchases. Would we really not buy that new car we want because it is $4,000 more than Brand X? I doubt it -- and how long are we going to keep that new car? A lot shorter time probably than we'll keep the DVC membership.

If that extra $4,000 will magnify your enjoyment of your Disney vacations, I'd say go for it.

Hard to add much else:

1) Smaller and less crowded
2) Storm Along
3) beaches n cream
4) Seafood buffet resturant in lobby is fantastic
5) 5 mins from Epcot
6) 10 mins to MGM by boat
7) Can see Illumiantions from balcony

AMEN! :rotfl2:

We bought BWV because of the theme, have stayed there twice and BCV once... Whole time I was at BCV I felt like a traitor ;)

We believe that the Epcot resort area is more valuable than the other locations, and decided to pay the difference. If Disney could use a little of their magic and plop SSR down on top of the Swan and Dolphin, we'd buy there in a minute.

BTW, Omaha is a very nice place to live and raise a family...
