I just returned from a trip w/ my wife & 2 sons (ages 1 & 5).
We stayed @ BWV...we usually stay @ BCV.
My 5 year old missed SAB so much....he liked the slide @ the Boardwalk pool, but it doesn't compare to SAB.
My ? is...Does anyone w/ young children prefer BWV...and why?

Let me preface this by saying, "I have NOT stayed at ANY DVC resorts, yet.". We did, however, choose to purchase a resale contract at BWV (and, we did, at first consider BCV). The reasons we chose BWV over BCV were based upon the information of MANY posters on this board, as well as close friends we have locally who own at three DVC resorts (they have 3 boys..4, 6, and 15).

I did ask the boys, as we have one young dd, and hope to have more, and figured their opinions might also be the opinions of my child someday. The boys said they much preferred BWV to BCV.

Their reasons were as follows:
1) They actually are able to get views of cresent lake and the boardwalk at BWV. They felt isolated at BCV, and they did not think the views compared.

2) The food choices at BWV. They liked being able to go get SO many different food choices so easily at BWV.

3) Community hall. The boys LOVE being able to rent movies, play games, and get popcorn. It gave them a sense of "feeling like we belong there."

4) They thought the resort as a whole was more "kid friendly".

Mom and Dad prefer BWV because:

1) The whole "standard" room view option makes the points almost as cheap as OKW (which they feel is the best "bargain" DVC has). So, they said, "If you can get Epcot location for OKW price...who can resist that?". They told me that they have not been able to book BWV standard view at seven months out, so they said if we didn't own there, we would be hard pressed to get that "perk".

2) Community hall - gives the kids a place to go when mom and dad need to rest, but the kids are restless.

3) BW views are "hard to beat".

I do agree that SAB looks like a wonderful "perk", but I read MANY posts on this board that echoed the same sentiments as my friends. Now, secretly (or not so, since I am posting it here), I am quivering thinking that when I get to WDW in Dec., I will be heartbroken thinking that I purchased at the wrong resort. Looking at what the resorts have to offer...they ALL have their strengths...I really want to own EVERY one!!! (even SSR, which I initially thought would hold no interest to me...it looks GORGEOUS!!!)

From where I sit, I think all resorts are amazing...and as unique as the people who own them. We KNOW we are not done purchasing points at DVC (210 will just not make it over the long haul for us), so we plan on visiting all resorts this Dec, and then "going with our hearts" on where to purchase another contract...who knows...it might even be BCV!!!!

I'm so glad you love where you own!!! What a relief to NOT fallen in love with another resort when your "booking advantage" is not there...when you pay as much as you do...all owners should be able to say that they love their home resort (or resorts) best!!!

Here's wishing you a wonderful trip next time at BCV!!!

We like BWV.

The bakery is close.
Community hall is fun, particularly for the boys.
We know a lot of CMs there and they know us.
Cutting out the back to walk to MGM.
Boardwalk entertainment & shopping.

Our home resort is BWV and my DD (9) enjoys the pools. We previously stayed at BWV in March '02 and loved it!! We had a blast going down to the boardwalk and seeing the different acts, participating in pool side games, and the community hall. We decided this year (March '04) to stay part of the time at BWV and the other part at BCV. Our main reason for staying at BCV was to swim at SAB (we had pool hopped back when it was still available). We had a blast at SAB, but BWV is still our favorite. Our plan for the future is to stay our first 2 - 3 nights at BCV in a studio and the remaining nights at BWV in a 1 bedroom.

We own at BWV, and my DS3 loves it there...

Most of the things that we like about BWV over BCV have already been mentioned...

1) Standard View Point chart... Being able to get those Standard View rooms mean that the points go a lot further which gives us more time at DVC...

2) Community Hall... On those days when we decide to stay not to go to a park, the Community Hall is great...

3) Food choices... We love the Bakery in particular....

4) Keister Coaster... While I will acknowledge BCV as having one of the most popular pools in WDW, my vote goes to BWV for having the best water slide...

and my 3 year old son's favorite....

4) The elephant that squirts water in the Luna Park pool....

We bought at BCV primarily for SAB. We have 4 kids. We have only stayed there once and loved it, although we look forward to trying ALL of the DVC resorts over time. We had a great view of EPCOT at BCV, but I can't see any KID choosing view or restaurants over pool!!!!

Well...to each KID his own.

laceemouse, I'm sure it's not your intent, but you make it sound as if BWV doesn't have a nice pool... It really does.. Both of my kids love the carnival type atmosphere of Luna Park.. Between the elephant showers, smoothies at Leaping Libations, Keister Coaster, and the children's pool I think there is more than enough to keep children entertained and give them an experience that is truly out of the ordinary and wonderful...

As far as the restaurants and the views go... Have you ever ended a great evening at MGM by stopping by for ice cream at the Boardwalk before going up to your room? Or sat down and ate funnel cakes on a bench near the water, while watching the Illuminations' fireworks over the treetops??

While I have never stayed at BCV, I do walk the grounds there on my daily morning jogs... I do admit.. BCV has a lot of nice charms.. It has a very nice, quiet, serene ambiance about it.. SAB is very impressive... I'd love to stay there eventually some day and truly use the amentities of the resort.. (I just always have a hard time justifying spending the extra points there vs. getting a Standard view room at BWV..)

From OKW to SSR, each DVC resorts has its unique merits, and each offers a variety of different experiences... That's one of the great things about being members.. :earsboy:

We own at both and love both with the slight edge to BWV. My DD is 3 and I think she enjoys both pools the same (although she does talk about the elephant that sprays water all the time:p ).

Our plan is to take 2 trips per year to BWV and one to BCV. I will be at BWV in a few days and cannot wait to try the slide!! There has always been some reason why I have not been able to go down it (refurbishing, at pool alone with DD3, etc).

My 2DD (13 and 11) both prefer BWV over BCV, as do DH and myself. We all like the BCV, and we do own 100 points there -- but we own 300 at BWV.

Like the other posters we like community hall, kesister coaster, boardwalk entertinment, location between Epcot and MGM, point structure, views.

My girls like the pool better at BC, but like the slide better at BW. They love being able to hang out at Community Hall, go to the store, bakery, candy shop etc without adults. So much more for pre-teen / young teens than the BC which only offers the pool.

My impression is that, for at least some dates and room types, it is possible to book BCV at the 7 month window.

While it is also possible to book BWV at the 7 month window, a standard view (low points) or boardwalk view room will be pretty much out of the question. I've heard these usually fill up the first day the 11 month window opens -- maybe within minutes, in fact.

So, if you want to stay at both, this gives an advantage to buying at BWV.

I found that it depends on kid's ages. When my kids were under 8, SAB made BCV our favorite place. I bought in when my kids were 12 and 9 however and they wer happy to give up SAB for BWV's Community Hall, proximity to the BW (ESPN, bakery, etc), tennis courts, etc. So, we bought at BWV and have loved it. Most of our ownership years will be with older kids and not small ones. I guesss when I have grandkids under 8, I'll try to stay ay BCV again.

Don't know about the bar but the snack bar food choices are better at BCV than BWV. Also, I miss Beaches and Cream staying at BWV.

As an old fogey I prefer BCV to BWV. I can always hop a boat or walk to the boardwalk.

If I were under 25 but over 10 I'd definitely trade the beachin' pool for the excitement of the boardwalk.

I like the birds at BWV ,but have yet to see the Ally at BCV

The view from the beach across the lake to BWV is also very nice. We also like the interior BC and BCV spaces for when it is raining. Parking is closer, and proximity to elevators better. It's also quieter. But you don't get the views like at BWV.

We like BCV better too.

I just asked my husband, DS - 8 and DD - 6 which they prefer and hands down went to BCV. I asked which is top at thier list pool or view and they said pool, but I also asked if they preferred the fireworks view from BCV or the lake view from BWV and they said the fireworks view from BCV.
