BCV visit

We recently returned from BCV and had a couple minor issues. When we checked in a little after 4pm we were given our room # and we proceeded to the room. This is about the 4th time this has happened that we have walked into an uncleaned room. We entered the room and the room was semi cleaned (the other times were not clean at all). There were used towels on the bathroom floor, a towel on the dinette chair and the bed was slightly turned down like someone turned it down and took a nap. Best we could guess is someone "moved" out, the maid cleaned, and they came back and "used" the room. I politely explained the situation to the front desk and had a really hard time convincing them the room was not acceptable. I pressured till I finally had to tell them they needed to give me another room. DH says sometimes my diplomacy falls way short of sending any kind of a message let alone a complaint. Long story short, we got a new room and an apology, and the CM at the desk insisted on giving us crayons and a little book. I politely declined and told her we had no children. This went back and forth till DH just took it so we could leave.

The other thing that I had seen on 20/20 and I think here as well, is I seriously think I got bit by bed bugs the last night we were there. I had red, itchy welts that look like no other mosquito, black fly, or no see-em bite I've ever had. I looked it up on the net and it really does resemble bed bug bites. Yuck!!!! We had to leave real early and there was no time to search for critters so I really cannot confirm. Wish I had, but I understand they just come out at night.

I also want to mention the fact that the bottom floor has windows that open. I was outside looking in and noticed what looked like a little crack under one. Upon further inspection I determined the window was actually unlocked. We had a heck of a time getting it relocked, pushing the top up and rocking it till we could align it back up and lock it. Perhaps a simple issue but with the thefts and room break-in reports you need to be careful.

I know this only sounds like a bad report but the trip was really good and all the CM's we met were just terrific. We did not see the gator. Anyone know if he is still there? But we did see a huge snake (4-5 ft) on the walkway by Ariel. Yes, that was me screaming. The addition of the tables in the back courtyard is a nice addition as well as the quick-food in the store.

We also had a bad room experience on our last trip to BCV in May. The room smelled like a smokey tavern, when I had requested non-smoking. I also had a hard time convincing the front desk this was not acceptable, and we had no intention of going back into that room. Even the bellman agreed the stench was way past some deodorizing spray. I had to tell them that I would camp out in the lobby until I got another room to get any action.

The second room smelled better, but had a huge wet spot in front of the small fridge. Maybe a defrost gone bad. It was so wet that it still felt damp on checkout 10 days later. Also, the room looked like it was cleaned in 5 minutes.

I have not run into bed bugs yet, but I believe you did.

I have not heard of any theft, can you elaborate. I always leave valubles in the room. Things like cameras and my watch when I hit the pool. Is it the staff members?

Sorry you had such problems. We really want to try BCV at some point, but right now I think we'll just stick to SSR. Hope you were able to enjoy the rest of your vacation.

The room keys must work until 11AM, and maybe that's the problem. Maybe people leave the room, pack the car, and go for 1 more swim in SAB, then go back to the room and even if it's been "cleaned" they do whatever they need to do. There should be a call that has to be made to say, "We are leaving the room."

We don't go back to the room after the check-out morning SAB swim. We go to the Health Club to change.

I could see this. We planned to do this at VB. We packed the car, then went for breakfast and planned to go back to the room for one last check and to use the bathrooms, etc. When we got there we were surprised the maid was in there cleaning. We didn't have the do not disturb sign out, so now I know we need to do that. I knew we had to be out by 11:00, so I just assumed we could go in and out of the room until then and that no one would be by until then. I understand why they start cleaning before then, and it was our own fault--our luggage was gone and the only thing left were our pops in the fridge that we had put them to stay cold until we headed out. So we just took our pops and went to the lobby to use the restroom there. Next time, we will hang out the sign if we want to be able to go back in the room.
