Well, I got back yesterday, so I thought it was time to get this on the boards.
We just returned from a wonderful stay at the BCV's!!!
The good stuff:
We have a beautiful view of SSE from a two-bedroom lockoff (269 & 271), and we were directly over the canal so we could feed the turtles off our balcony.
The CM's were nicer than they have ever been!!! Everyone at the BC/BCV was so helpful and kind!!
The weather was BEAUTIFUL!!!! Cool and sunny during the day (warm enough to enjoy SAB), but chilly and cold at night.
The bad stuff (although none of it concerning BCV was really that bad):
We arrived at 1:00, and of course our room was not ready. We checked in, and I verified with the cm that our room was n/s, non-ha. We changed and went down to SAB. I called about 3:00, and was told our room was ready. Room 450. I pulled out my trusty map, and saw that 450 was a studio (with only one number I was expecting a dedicated 2 bdrm), and that is was smoking. I went to the concierge, and explained to them that the room was smoking. They asked if I had been up to the room, because if I had I could not change w/o a $25 fee. I explained that I had not been to the room because I had my trusty map. The cm then explained to me that since my map was off of a "fan site" and was not a WDW map, it was probably wrong, and I should just go up to the room. I laughed, and said, "Well, if I did go up to the room, then you'd tell me I couldn't change." Then, a second CM came by and told me that all villas were non-smoking. I explained that was not true, and showed them my map. I showed them how all smoking BCV's were on the fourth floor, and in the wing with room 450...so, if it was non-smoking, it was the ONLY non-smoking room in that area. They seemed very interested in knowing this, and called another cm over, who explained that my map was correct, and that I had indeed been assigned to a smoking room. The first cm asked, "Well, did you request a non-smoking room?" I said, "Yes, and I verified it with the cm at check-in". I went on to explain that if my mom were not with me, I would be happy to take the smoking room, but I simply could not accept it with my mom's allergies. He then checked on the computer, and read out, "Medical non-smoking". He then smiled and said, "Well....let's just find you a room that works!! What view were you wanting?" And then he found me my room. It was not ready, however....so, we went back outside to SAB. The room was ready about 4:30.
We carried our bags to the room, and had our food brought up from storage. After a couple of hours, I opened our refrigerator (which smelled very strongly of bleach) to discover that it had not cooled down at all. I called engineering, and they sent someone up within minutes. She tested our fridge, and discovered that it really was not working. She said the maids leave them open sometimes for hours when they are cleaning, and that makes the motors go out very quickly. She said they had all new fridges in storage, as all fridges in the BCV were getting replaced...they just had not had the time to get them into all rooms. I told her we were going to Epcot, and she said, "Well, when you come home, I guarantee you will have a new fridge waiting for you"....and, we did!!! It was beautiful, and VERY nice!!!
We also tried to bake cookies one night only to discover our kitchen had NO bakeware. I called housekeeping and had several pans to choose from within minutes!!
Our dvd player also was not working, so we had to call engineering for that. He said the problem was not the dvd player, but the tv. He said that when DVC purchased the tv's the whole lot of them had the actual cable slots reversed from how they were labeled. He said when people bring video game players to hook into the tv, they have to undo the dvd player. Then, when they go to hook them up, the plug them in the way the tv is labeled...but, it is wrong. He said he has to re-plug in at least three dvd players every day! He was really looking forward to those tv's being replaced.
The worst part had nothing to do with DVC. The vet called on Sunday after our arrival, and said that my 18 yr. old dog was having seizures. I received another call on Fri evening to say that her seizures had started back up, and could not be stopped (she had lung, and now brain cancer). They needed my permission to euthanize her. I didn't get to say goodbye.
General info:
The parks were MUCH more crowded than I hoped. The fast passes for Soarin' were gone by 1:00 every day, and by evening the line was at least 70 minutes!!! We did MVMCP on Tues night, and the crowd levels were low for that event. Of course, it rained...so, the weather wasn't the best!!
Saturday at the MK....well....just forget about it!!! Pure insanity!!! But, even during the week some lines were really long. On Wed. we waited 40 minutes to see Crush...that is the longest I have ever waited for that show!! I think most of the non-crowded times at WDW have disappeared. But, that is one of the best things about DVC....you know you will be back, so you don't sweat it!!
Except for the death of my dog, I have to say this was probably the best trip to WDW we have had!! But, of course....any trip that my dd doesn't have to see a doctor is a great trip!!!
. I thought I really loved the BCV's before this trip....but, if possible....I love them even more now!!! Everytime I walked back to the resort, my heart just melted!! I definitely had a bad case of addonitis while we were there. It's a great feeling to know that we own at the perfect resort for our family. It's weird, but watching the sunset on the beach helped settle me about the loss of my dog...I think the sound of water does that somehow.
On our last day (Sat), the MK was so crowded that we just returned to BC and allowed our dd to feed the ducks the loaves of bread we had left, while we rested in the sun on the beach. Those ducks are so brave, they will take the bread right out of your hands...and they never bit her once!! The sun was setting as we packed up to go, and watching the sunset on the beach just made me start to cry. My dh pulled at my hand and said, "You'll be here in March....that's just three months away." And then he gave me a string of pink pearls he had purchased from the Pearl Factory on the beach, and said "And these are just the color of that sunset." Well....I was sobbing like a baby!!!
It was a special trip, and BCV is certainly a very special place.
