Well, I got back yesterday, so I thought it was time to get this on the boards.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the BCV's!!!

The good stuff:

We have a beautiful view of SSE from a two-bedroom lockoff (269 & 271), and we were directly over the canal so we could feed the turtles off our balcony.

The CM's were nicer than they have ever been!!! Everyone at the BC/BCV was so helpful and kind!!

The weather was BEAUTIFUL!!!! Cool and sunny during the day (warm enough to enjoy SAB), but chilly and cold at night.

The bad stuff (although none of it concerning BCV was really that bad):

We arrived at 1:00, and of course our room was not ready. We checked in, and I verified with the cm that our room was n/s, non-ha. We changed and went down to SAB. I called about 3:00, and was told our room was ready. Room 450. I pulled out my trusty map, and saw that 450 was a studio (with only one number I was expecting a dedicated 2 bdrm), and that is was smoking. I went to the concierge, and explained to them that the room was smoking. They asked if I had been up to the room, because if I had I could not change w/o a $25 fee. I explained that I had not been to the room because I had my trusty map. The cm then explained to me that since my map was off of a "fan site" and was not a WDW map, it was probably wrong, and I should just go up to the room. I laughed, and said, "Well, if I did go up to the room, then you'd tell me I couldn't change." Then, a second CM came by and told me that all villas were non-smoking. I explained that was not true, and showed them my map. I showed them how all smoking BCV's were on the fourth floor, and in the wing with room 450...so, if it was non-smoking, it was the ONLY non-smoking room in that area. They seemed very interested in knowing this, and called another cm over, who explained that my map was correct, and that I had indeed been assigned to a smoking room. The first cm asked, "Well, did you request a non-smoking room?" I said, "Yes, and I verified it with the cm at check-in". I went on to explain that if my mom were not with me, I would be happy to take the smoking room, but I simply could not accept it with my mom's allergies. He then checked on the computer, and read out, "Medical non-smoking". He then smiled and said, "Well....let's just find you a room that works!! What view were you wanting?" And then he found me my room. It was not ready, however....so, we went back outside to SAB. The room was ready about 4:30.

We carried our bags to the room, and had our food brought up from storage. After a couple of hours, I opened our refrigerator (which smelled very strongly of bleach) to discover that it had not cooled down at all. I called engineering, and they sent someone up within minutes. She tested our fridge, and discovered that it really was not working. She said the maids leave them open sometimes for hours when they are cleaning, and that makes the motors go out very quickly. She said they had all new fridges in storage, as all fridges in the BCV were getting replaced...they just had not had the time to get them into all rooms. I told her we were going to Epcot, and she said, "Well, when you come home, I guarantee you will have a new fridge waiting for you"....and, we did!!! It was beautiful, and VERY nice!!!

We also tried to bake cookies one night only to discover our kitchen had NO bakeware. I called housekeeping and had several pans to choose from within minutes!!

Our dvd player also was not working, so we had to call engineering for that. He said the problem was not the dvd player, but the tv. He said that when DVC purchased the tv's the whole lot of them had the actual cable slots reversed from how they were labeled. He said when people bring video game players to hook into the tv, they have to undo the dvd player. Then, when they go to hook them up, the plug them in the way the tv is labeled...but, it is wrong. He said he has to re-plug in at least three dvd players every day! He was really looking forward to those tv's being replaced.

The worst part had nothing to do with DVC. The vet called on Sunday after our arrival, and said that my 18 yr. old dog was having seizures. I received another call on Fri evening to say that her seizures had started back up, and could not be stopped (she had lung, and now brain cancer). They needed my permission to euthanize her. I didn't get to say goodbye.

General info:

The parks were MUCH more crowded than I hoped. The fast passes for Soarin' were gone by 1:00 every day, and by evening the line was at least 70 minutes!!! We did MVMCP on Tues night, and the crowd levels were low for that event. Of course, it rained...so, the weather wasn't the best!!

Saturday at the MK....well....just forget about it!!! Pure insanity!!! But, even during the week some lines were really long. On Wed. we waited 40 minutes to see Crush...that is the longest I have ever waited for that show!! I think most of the non-crowded times at WDW have disappeared. But, that is one of the best things about DVC....you know you will be back, so you don't sweat it!!

Except for the death of my dog, I have to say this was probably the best trip to WDW we have had!! But, of course....any trip that my dd doesn't have to see a doctor is a great trip!!! :rotfl: . I thought I really loved the BCV's before this trip....but, if possible....I love them even more now!!! Everytime I walked back to the resort, my heart just melted!! I definitely had a bad case of addonitis while we were there. It's a great feeling to know that we own at the perfect resort for our family. It's weird, but watching the sunset on the beach helped settle me about the loss of my dog...I think the sound of water does that somehow.

On our last day (Sat), the MK was so crowded that we just returned to BC and allowed our dd to feed the ducks the loaves of bread we had left, while we rested in the sun on the beach. Those ducks are so brave, they will take the bread right out of your hands...and they never bit her once!! The sun was setting as we packed up to go, and watching the sunset on the beach just made me start to cry. My dh pulled at my hand and said, "You'll be here in March....that's just three months away." And then he gave me a string of pink pearls he had purchased from the Pearl Factory on the beach, and said "And these are just the color of that sunset." Well....I was sobbing like a baby!!!

It was a special trip, and BCV is certainly a very special place.

What a wonderful trip report, except the part about your dog. I'm so sorry that you didn't get a chance to say goodbye. It's the hardest decision we animal lovers have to make.

I'm glad the rest of your trip went well, though it sounds like you had to have a few issues resolved between the smoking room, the fridge problem and the tv/dvd cabling issue. It sounds like you had a good attitude about everything and didn't let it affect your stay.

Good thing you had that map with you! We're staying at OKW and VWL in late January so I'm thinking I should do my homework and bring along info on where the smoking rooms are at those resorts so I'll know at check-in if there is a problem. I would be miserable in a smoking room and DH has health issues that could be compromised if he stayed in a smoking room. In fact, he would sleep in the car rather than spend even one night in a smoking room!

We had a tough time deciding between BCV and BWV when we decided to buy into DVC. Now you're making me wonder if we made the right decision!

Just when you think you know all the acronyms... SSE?

Great story. Sounds like those so-called fan sites know more than some people give them credit for. I'm glad you got the room you needed.

Beca, I'm so glad you had such a wonderful time, and that you have such a caring DH! I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved pet.

Thanks for the tip of having a map on hand!LOL

Very nice report. It is a great resort. I am so sorry about your dog. They are just like family. We had a 15 year old dog whom we had to put to sleep last year. It was very difficult. Take care. :grouphug:

Sounds like a great trip. We were in 312 at Thanksgiving. Great studio room with a wonderful view. The map you have sounds wonderful. Could you tell me where you found it? Are there such maps for all the DVC's? We'll be at OKW from Dec 18-23 in a 1 bdrm and would love a map like this for that location.

We'll also be back at WDW in March but over at Bonnet Creek (I know, a moment of insanity but it was book last year before we bought DVC).

When are you going in Oct We're going on the Oct 28th cruise and will be atbcv Oct 24th to the 28th. Our first trip to this resort We have WLV as a home resort.

Oh, Beca I'm so sorry about your dog. :grouphug: It is so hard to say goodbye.

Your husband sounds like a sweetheart.

New refrigerators already is amazing.

Glad they were able to find you nonsmoking rooms. I wish the whole place WAS nonsmoking. I bet the people at the front desk do too! :teeth:

Anyway, glad your tip home was so great. Thanks for your report.

Glad you had a great trip! Soooo sorry about your dog. We went thru that 2 years ago and it was devastating!

I am so sorry about your dog. It must have been so hard for you.
Your husband sounds like a wonderful person. Thanks for the report. I am sneaking off to BCV for 3 days in Feb., I will think of you when I watch the sunset! :goodvibes

Thank you Beca for sharing.

Im also sorry to hear about your dog, but it sounds like you left him in very capable hands and that is wonderful that someone was there to care for him.

Also thank you for the tip about the maps. Good Show! If nothing else, they should guarantee smoking or nonsmoking. It's very basic and that is a do or die trip buster for many.

Saturdays are a good day NOT to go to MK and I agree that there really isnt a slow season anymore. Slow weeks and then there are only about 5 of those in a year.

You have really captured how I feel about the BCV's despite the little issues, it is still a wonderful resort, and I cry every time we leave.

We fix em and enjoy the rest of our vacation.

So sorry to hear about your dog :sad1: I held my dog last January as she was euthanized annd I still tear up when I think about her. So glad to hear the BCV were a balm for your hurting soul. We are new owners and are looking forward to our first trip home in August. I'll definately hunt down that handy map and bring it with me!

Thanks, everyone for your well-wishes about my dog. It is very sad, but I keep reminding myself...we all know the day we bring them home that this will be a choice we have to make someday. I also think God gave them a shorter life span because we are meant to outlive them....it would be too hard for them to outlive us. But, they are so special....it's just hard to let them go.

The map is great. I got it off of diszip's site (I think that it who I got it from). I don't know if they have them for all the resorts, but it is a GREAT one for BCV. I absolutely do recommend that if you can get your hands on one for your resort....do it, and bring it with you at check-in. Here's the link:

http://www.parkinfo2go.com/dvc-bcv/

I also have a great one for VWL, but I printed it out, and the address didn't print at the bottom so I don't know what link it came from. I will do some research and see if I can "re-find" it. If I do, I will post it here.

LisaS....I am so sorry to make you question your purchase! BWV is a BEAUTIFUL resort. Please don't take my ramblings for anything other than what they actually are....an obsessed woman who has a STRANGE affection for BCV....(seriously...I have issues!! ;) The way I love that resort is emotional, not logical....and, I would never presume to think that it is the "best" resort....it's just that I have some weird attachment to that resort. You will LOVE BWV!!! The rooms are noticeably larger (at least to me), you have a HUGE master closet that we don't have, I actually think BWV has the prettiest room decor of any of the resorts I have stayed in, and you have better access to MGM.....seriously, we don't walk from BCV to MGM....I think it is too far. And, I haven't even mentioned the standard view rooms....I think they are best deal in DVC!!! Don't even give a thought to my ramblings....you're gonna LOVE your home!!

Aaahhh!!! Well, I didn't have to do research for long!! I just saw on another thread that spiceycat had posted this link (thanks, spiceycat!!)!! It was just the map I was looking for.

VWL owners, here's the best map I know of http://members.aol.com/InstImpres/wildernessmap.pdf ....I always take this one with me at check-in. The map doesn't tell which rooms are smoking, but I am sure they are all on one floor. If a VWL owner could post that, I would really appreciate it!!

No apology necessary, Beca. I totally understand what you mean when you describe how you feel about BCV. The reason our decision on which resort to purchase was so difficult was because I love the look and atmosphere of the BCVs. We've stayed at YC twice and I just get such a good feeling walking past the BC as we walk to/from Epcot or take our nightly stroll around the lake. I love the architecture, the colors, the beach area, the ducks, and looking across the lake at the lights of the Boardwalk. I also like the fact that BCV is so close to Epcot.

However, we also liked the idea of the standard view rooms and Boardwalk view rooms at BWV. We don't have kids and thought maybe the pool area at BWV might be a bit more laid back than SAB. So in the end, we decided to buy at BWV. I am happy with our decision, but like you, I feel this special fondness for the BC/BCV, and I can really relate to the sentiments in your trip report!

How dare they question the accuracy of the map!!!!! I am glad it helped you out.

We were there last week also, but found with the exception of Soarin', that the lines were about what we expected and even better than they were last year (we we there one week later last year). Maybe our choice of which parks to goto on which days worked out better for us.

Overall, we had a great time. The only things that was disapointing was that the decorations at the BC lobby and outside were more understated this year (no big tree etc), and when we went over to MGM to the Osborne lights, there were many lights out - whole buildings not lit correctly or at all.

Thank you for the great trip report, Beca. And I am also sorry for your loss. Gosh, your hubby sounds like a sweetie. Glad you reminded me to make sure I bring the same BCV resort map (Thanks, DisZip!) for our check-in this Saturday. Only four more days!!!! :cool1:

I'm a little concerned about something the CM said. They said that if you'd been up to your room, you couldn't change without paying the $25 fee? Does that mean even if you'd just entered it and discovered it wasn't correct? I was just wondering because this is what happened to us a few years ago at VWL. As soon as we got into our room, we discovered it was HA and that wouldn't do-we needed a bathtub. When I called the front desk (we'd been in the room less than a minute) we were told we'd have to pay to move, DVC policy. Since it was our first visit since joining DVC, we accepted what we were told. However,we've since come to understand that DVC "policy" applies many to view issues and not to being in the room for only a couple minutes. If I'm mistaken, thank goodness you had the map!

Beca,

I feel exactly like you do about BCV! We love it so much and it is truly our home away from home. We also had a similiar situation when we were there in October and our room wasn't ready at check-in either. I specifically asked if the room was non-handicapped and non-smoking and the front desk clerk assured me it was. When I called to see if it was ready and they gave me the room #, I was pretty sure it was a smoking room (again thanks to my familiarity with diszip's map) so I asked and she said it was. I told her when I checked in they had specifically told me it was not. So she called the BC front desk for me and got us changed to another room. All I had to do was go back and exchange our keys. I told the CM at the front desk that I didn't mind coming back to exchange the keys but it could have been avoided if the first CM at the front desk knew which rooms were handicapped and smoking and which were not. I suggested they do some training but I guess they haven't got everyone trained yet!!!!

I also feel bad for you about your dog. They become such a part of our lives it is so hard when we lose them. My dog is 13 and he seems to be missing us more and more each time we take a trip. After our last trip, our son, who lives at home with us, said Bronco, our dog, missed us so much that he moped around and didn't even eat as much as usual. Although your dog can never be replaced, hopefully, you will find another one to love in the near future.

Wow! What a wonderful thing for your husband to do! I love my DH but he is definitely not the kind to do or say something so romantic.

Donna
